I have to say. I do enjoy playing the rec sports at Mission Bay. I have played in their…read morerecreational v-ball league on Tuesday nights for four seasons now. The league has a variety of skill levels from beginning to intermediate. The teams are a variety of students to working folk. It's a good work out and the atmosphere is quite friendly. Location-wise, it's easy to get to by car and you can even take muni there. What's nice is that they also validate your parking for $1.75 for up to 3 hours. Way better to keep your car safe in a garage than parked on the street. The ref, Roger, is pretty fair and has been the ref for as long as I can remember. He doesn't call all the "illegal" plays but it's a more relaxed atmosphere so definitely don't play here if you want every single infraction to be called. The price is a little steep for non-UCSF students and there is no discount for the more people on a team, so the more the merrier doesn't really apply here.

My only complaint is that some of the teams in our "intermediate" league should NOT have been there. A lot of the guys were former JUCO or D-III players who were huge. I mean, come on, there shouldn't be anyone dunking in an intermediate league. Overall, a solid league to play in... I've since played in a number of other leagues around the city, and this one compares well. U n-monitored player skills led to discrepancies in competition level. C ost is comparable to most leagues in SF. S omewhat of a pain to get to... all the way on the Southeast side of the city. F acilities were top-notch.

Coach Julio started our…read morelesson by feeding us some balls to get a gauge of our skill level, and quickly adapted his coaching according to where we started & our learning speed. He's a very engaging instructor who knows the game well, and is able to point out small tweaks that make a big difference. Another big pro was that logistics & scheduling were easy - lessons are booked via an online platform, and Coach Julio handles the court reservation. We will be back for more lessons!

After a few minutes of hitting, I could never catch my rhythm hitting the ball. We started playing catch. I thought this was ridiculous and was ready to never see Julio again. After a few minutes of playing catch, I quickly realized that there was a huge lesson to be learned from it. It wasn't about an inability to hit the ball or being bad at tennis, it was addressing that I was too focused on looking for a perfect shot and not focusing on the ball. I quickly learned from Julio. He sharpened my fundamentals and broke down each of my weaknesses as they came up. I hated working on my weaknesses, but eventually learned to get to the next level it starts with working on the worst part of your game. Julio's coaching really started to make a difference, once I had the fundamentals really nailed. He has a great Tennis IQ and is exceptional at sharpening your strengths in the game. I had a huge forehand and he made it so I could hit the ball precisely where I wanted it to go, but also taught me the patience to not try to hit a winner just because I thought I could. Even playing at a really high level, the fundamentals were still emphasized. I cannot recall a hitting session without practicing some basic footwork. I worked with Julio through severe Achilles Tendonitis and a serious surgery on my hand. Both of these instances I was ready to give up on tennis, but Julio did not let me. He targeted the weakness my injury was causing and made me work past it. Julio made it possible for me to play Singles #2 for my high school throughout my high school career and compete against blue chip recruits and 5.0+ players. As someone who worked with Julio very early on in his career, it has been very exciting to see him evolve as a coach. I remember seeing him struggle to get beginners and first timers to pick up the game quickly. Within a few years, I could see Julio's newer students progress much faster and learn the fundamentals very fast.

This is my review for Albert Beltran, my trainer at Fitness SF SoMa:…read more I've been training with Albert three times a week since the end of March, with a focus on body recomposition and muscular hypertrophy. Since then, I've made meaningful progress across the board--not just in strength and body composition, but also in conditioning, mobility, technique, and mindset. Albert has an athletic and professional coaching style, and what I appreciate most is that he trains me like an athlete. He understands my previous training background and builds on it rather than taking a generic approach. His programming is always well structured, he explains technique clearly, notices small details in movement, adapts sessions when needed, and knows how to push me without compromising recovery or preparation. Since we started working together, I've lost about 5 pounds of fat and gained about 6 pounds of muscle. I'm also regaining strength and technique much faster than I expected. Just as importantly, Albert has helped me become more patient with the process and has consistently reinforced the importance of recovery between sessions. He is very good at making sure I'm properly conditioned for the work we're doing rather than simply throwing harder workouts at me for the sake of intensity. The gym is always clean, sessions are organized, and communication has been excellent. I would highly recommend Albert to anyone looking for more than just aesthetic changes. If your goal is to improve athletic performance, become stronger and better conditioned, and genuinely challenge yourself with intelligent coaching, he's an excellent trainer to work with.

Fitness SF SOMA is a great gym! Love that the location is near Costco, Trader Joe's and Rainbow if…read moreI have a lot of errands to run I can also hit those spots. I've been to the Transbay and Castro locations and am excited to see what they have in store for Polk. I have a friend that likes to swim at their Fillmore location as well. I adore the dog room they have at SOMA and it always brightens my day seeing the cute furry faces. I feel like this gym is a lil pricey without the special, with the special I have its about $100/month, on their website it's $135ish rn. The most I've paid in the city was $125 and that was a family owned small business. I wouldn't pay $135 tbh. I do appreciate that there are multiple locations you can go to and experience tho. SOMA is my go to as it has the most equipment and free weights and is closer to me. Trans bay does feel a lot cleaner and newer but also I feel like I'm walking up and down a lot and the flow of the machines isn't as good imo. Castro is pretty tiny ngl but they can't really control that. During busy times the wait for machines isn't too long and there's more duplicates of equipment compared to the other locations I've been to. Plenty of squat racks on both sides of the gym with platforms which is really nice and 3 different areas with free weights. They provide chalk which has helped me with my lifts and grip strength goals. I do think the locker rooms for the women could be modernized a little more like transbay but it's good for what it is tbh as they provide feminine products and hair dryers. I do want to try the sauna and massage chairs. I've also used the InBody scanner and theraguns. The SOMA location also has ample parking nearby that isn't paid parking so that's nice too and also a Lyft bike stop. I have had a friend who's light was stolen outside tho so I would be mindful if you're biking here. Overall, would recommend if it's in your budget and you are nearby. Random but I loved how they decorated it during Pride wish it was like that all year lmao Anyways I will say I agree with the other reviewers about BO but it's a gym and ppl get musty/musky, you might smell some B.O. occasionally but it's temporary and then you end your workout seeing an adorable doggo so then you forget lolll

Here are the main issues I had- -It's very cramped and can therefore get busy fast. -The cardio area in the front doesn't have enough air circulation or purification. However purification and circulation are a problem everywhere there. -Members regularly show up sneezing, coughing, and with runny noses. -The gym is unattended most of the time, and when staff are present they're glued to devices. The gym's own basic rules just go unenforced. -The equipment is regularly dirty and sweaty. The vast majority of members do not wipe off equipment after they have used it (much less before they use it.) And staff absolutely does not pick up the slack and clean off sweaty machines or provide even gentle reminders to members, in real time. Feels gross and makes it too easy to pick up colds, flu, Covid etc. -If you accidentally forget your water bottle you'll be totally out of luck! They only provide a bubbler- no cups. -There is not composting or recycling throughout the facility. Only the two cans by the entrance offer sustainable options. -Using their platform was difficult both from a cell phone and via the Safari browser. Like most other people in the Bay I'm an iPhone user so this proved to be inconvenient. -They milked me for another month when it was time to cancel. Their cancellation process is not straightforward and bought and you can be charged an entire month's membership, even if you cancel several days before the regular day your dues always deduct. It's a common feeling that if you cancel before your monthly renewal date, you should not be charged on the next renewal date. So to me it seems like their cancellation process is confusing and also is poor business practice, plain and simple. Really the only major perk here was that I could walk here. Ultimately this business might benefit from some local competition. I really don't recommend this gym and hope for Bernal's sake that they make some serious changes.

Every time I attempted to enter my fob did not work (when I picked it up I confirmed with the employee that it worked). I was so frustrated when this happened a second time I emailed the gym asking if someone could let me in. I was instructed that I needed to wait until staff hours by the founder. Since I don't work in the city I would not be able to meet them during those hours (11-12) This ended up causing some weird email and text argument with the founder who was so rude. I canceled my membership (considering I couldn't even use the gym I pay for) and was charged randomly 2X the expected charge. When I asked for an itemized receipt like any normal business can provide founder responded with the attached email. What a terrible way to do business. Avoid this gym.
