Last summer in late July early August, I decided to focus on myself, this would be a giant step for me, as a self-professed people pleaser, always seeking approval from others. The thought of looking into self-care was way outside of my comfort zone. Folks say that God will place people in your path, this statement, has a new meaning for me now as I am entering in my twelfth month in this "Season for Dwayne". One of those decisions was to engage with a Life Coach, M. Denise Vinson with "Life Changes by Denise". This has proven to be an amazing step for me, the growth I have been able to obtain in my personal and professional life is bearing fruit daily. There are several definitions of what a "Life Coach" is, for me in my "Season for Dwayne", "Life Coach" has meant having a person in my corner in every aspect of my life. Sharing, listening, instructing, guiding, hand holding, cheering, reaffirming, constructing, identifying goals, developing strategies, recognizing obstacles, creating safe space for self-confidence building, and decision-making skills. Not having been involved in any organized sports during my childhood, adolescents or even adulthood, the word coach was a scary thought, the choice to overcome that initial fear of the word has changed my life for the better, allowing me to find things in myself I had never been able to see for myself. Looking for approval in others was a way of life for me, over the past 5.5 decades of surviving life, I feel like for the first time I am truly living a life I can approve of for Dwayne. Self-Love is a huge undertaking, not to mention the fear built up over a lifetime of self-loathing. I can share that I know approach each day with a rewarding feeling of gratefulness, this has changed my view on so many aspects of the day to day that is LIFE. To pinpoint my personal goals and aspirations, and find the solutions to manifest that goal in my life. Usually, we have the answers ourselves, we just need to get out of our own way to see them. That is exactly what Jeff helped me to do! My coaching experience with Jeff began with his assistant sending me a questionnaire to fill out about myself. It covered professional, personal, home life, spiritual life, and physical health among other areas. Although the questionnaire is straightforward, it is sometimes hard it rate areas of your life when you are so used to going through the daily motions of accomplishing things without much reflection. Once we had set our date and time for the coaching session, I anxiously awaited our call. Side note- you can have your sessions in person or over the phone/Skype. The flexibility was key for me as I have little ones at home with me and needed to have my call during naptime. Once the hour long session got under way, Jeff explained the differences between a life coach and licensed therapist, confidentiality agreements, and also the framework of the initial session. I greatly appreciated this being that I admittedly did not have any clue what to expect. Haha Newbie here! While I won't get into specifics about my goals, I will speak on my experience and Jeff's coaching approach. I REALLY loved that the session and all goal setting was completely lead by me and my interests, while also getting observational feedback from Jeff throughout. He confidently stated that his job was to essentially help me to come to my own conclusions. It was very empowering!!!! To hear that we each know in our core what we need to focus on and how to solve our own problems or reach our own goals, we just need guidance in getting there was such an "aha" moment for me. Although I can say if you are not that reflective, I can see how getting coaching from Jeff would be essential!! Jeff also gently pointed out evident personal characteristics that could be contributing to my success (or not!) at accomplishing my goals. And as you know, it can be difficult to face how you contribute to your own failures and successes. Who REALLY wants to look in the mirror? Lol But thankfully, Jeff knew when and when not to push his observations. It was a great balance in my opinion. The season ended with measurable actions I had to proclaim I would do towards achieving the particular goals I'd set. Proclaiming actions that I would take made it easy for me to know exactly what I was going to do in the time between sessions to get closer to achieving my goals. Lastly, Jeff asked me some reflective questions that helped me to mentally recall and summarize the outline of the season. The very last thing was a very simple task of putting 5 things in order of how we prioritize them in our life (self, spouse, family, work, ). I rated them according to my life, and then Jeff reminded me that healthy priorities (in order) are self, spouse, work, family and friends. Such a great reminder that self MUST come first in order to care for the other areas of your life. How do you rate your life's priorities? The group bootcamp classes are 30 minutes, and are offered Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. You may think, "That's it, 30 minutes?"...but at the end end of class when you're laid out on the floor gasping for breath, you'll be thankful it was only 30 minutes! Holly is in charge of the program, and does an excellent job. She keeps her class sizes small, so she's really able to give each individual any needed attention. Whether you're a beginner, pregnant, or have an injury you're recovering from, Holly will work with you to modify the workout...which I think is pretty awesome! One of my favorite things about the class is the variety. Whether it's battle ropes, frog jumps, or high-fiving a partner between pushups...each day we do a different combo of excercises...that are challenging, interactive, and fun! I have been smoking for 26 years and to think that Hypnosis would be an answer I would have never…read morebelieved it. I scheduled my appointment for 1 week away. I was scared. But speaking with Mark he let me know the truth right off the bat. He said " I have a magic wand for quitting smoking". I laughed. AS IF !!! And if so why isn't everyone doing this ? Ok so it's now late Friday night and Monday at 11am was my last cigarette and first apt. I wasn't certain at first when I left what was going to happen. I noticed everything he said and could feel and hear everything around me. It's not what we believe or see on tv. This was different. This was success. I have had no withdraws no Illness and not even a desire to smoke. I think about the cigarettes but not wanting them just remembering them. It's only been a couple days but that's a couple more days longer then me using anything else and this time I feel amazing I'm no longer wanting a cigarette or a need to have one as those feelings were taken away in my first session. I feel strong confident and have come to love this new life as a non smoker !!! Quitting smoking does not have to be hard and using Marks Hypnosis three treatment therapy it was so easy to do.
