Anyways, I decided to come here for the first time on a weekday afternoon and it was very pretty and peaceful, well maintained, and the perfect running distance for me. I parked on the street outside the carousel entrance of slater park, towards the Pawtucket country club which is where the trail splits. To my left was about half a mile of trail and to my left there was about 2.5 miles of trail. To the left there wasn't much to see, but there was a lot of green, so it was pretty. At the end of this chunk there is a big parking lot. To the right the trail does have more to see, especially since it cuts through slater park, there is a river, and even a dirt bike riding area. At the end of that is also a parking lot and a baseball field. The terrain is mostly flat but there are some tiny hills/slopes that can be challenging towards the end. I was able to see a red cardinal and a couple other birds.

At over 70 acres, this wildlife refuge is situated on a parcel of land that comprises Barrington's…read morehistoric Nockum Hill. A beautiful outdoor space any time of the year; there are a number of trails to peruse this mix of coastal wetland filled with marshes, fields, forest, and farmland. There is a small parking area on George Street just as the road starts to curve. A small sign marks the entrance to the first trailhead. Named for a Barrington native and prominent naturalist, the trails here meander through the various landscape. A couple off-shoots give you access to areas like a small boardwalk area that extends into the upper marshlands. Several of the fields have birdhouses erected that attract all kinds of species. I believe I caught a couple views of some bluebirds during my time here. And geese. So many geese. Another trail delivers you to the sandy shores of the Hundred Acre Cove. Really beautiful in January when I visited, all iced over. This beach is a nesting area for the diamondback terrapin. There is a park bench on this shoreline to soak in the views. Of note, there is a seemingly out of place pistol range on site for the Barrington Police which is very well-marked for safety. All-in-all, a pleasant place to get outside.

The server did a wonderful job taking us through the complexity of each pour even down to where the apples were grown! They press the ciders on site and have antique presses as decor! We wished there could have been even more options to choose from but we had a wonderful time stopping by!

My husband and I went to Sowams for the first time yesterday. We were the only customers there, and…read morehappened to be served by the owner. The owner, Spencer, was incredibly nice and taught us everything about the ciders from the pressing to the serving. Spencer has his own orchard so the apples and entire process are from him. You can tell he loves what he does, by the passion in which he speaks of everything. The cider was delicious, each one we tried better than the next. We even got a fifth and unexpected tasting, which was delicious. The ambiance is relaxed, inviting and feels like you're in the middle of a mill, which I loved. It's so welcoming! We will be back soon, and see it as a regular spot. Spencer was so nice, and the cider so good, I'd really love to see more people come and try the place!
