A great, deep rumbling. The park is below the dam, of course (of course). There are many trees, and a nice rain storm came in and cooled things off. The shower house is older but adequate and private (see comments on Meade State Park). But it is unventilated. I almost had heat stroke while washing my hair. The Smoky Hills are splendid. To get to the park, you go up on some heights, and you have a view of escarpments, green grassy hills, and trees down in the low places. The campground attendant was having sharp words with her kids last night. There are three kids, looks like early teenaged to younger. Two girls and one boy.

We stayed in site #048 both times and was a great choice. Our site was a long pull-through with full hookups and had plenty of room for our 30ft class C and toad. Because we were only staying for one night, we didn't disconnect the toad. Our site was fairly level and nicely appointed with a large patio, furniture and lawn decorations. There is lots of grass and everything is nicely maintained. The entire campground is nice and clean and the upkeep from the owners shows. Lots of little Wizard of Oz themed signs and statues are around and it makes it a fun place to walk around. Our site was on "Tornado Alley" street! (A bit more on that later!) There is a huge Adirondack chair up front for fun pictures! Lots of mature shade trees helped with the heat and although we didn't use it, the pool looked inviting. The Kamp K9 is great here! Nice and big and covered in lush grass really helped our two labs burn off some energy from the road. The store is well stocked and we ordered pizza one night and they delivered it right to our site! We would not hesitate to stay here again and look forward to it! We camped at Salina KOA Holiday in a Motorhome. FYI Summertime thunderstorms in Kansas are no joke. Had a big boomer come through late at night our first night. A bit scary. On our return stay, we got caught in a tornadic supercell between Lawrence and Topeka! Seriously scary! The campground does provide cool text alerts!

We stopped at Cedar Bluff on our way home. We arrived after 4:00, but because of booking online and prepaying, our site was tagged with our name. It had a beautiful view (pictures). Positives: fully concrete pad with concrete patio area, well-manicured and clean. Negatives: a bit of a hike to the bathhouse. Only water and electric hookup, but wasn't a big deal to dump tanks as we left. They only other thing that was kind of a pain: firewood. Since the office closed at 4, we didn't know where to get firewood.
