Cat on the mower
Cayla S.

IF YOU LOVE CATS YOU HAVE TO STAY HERE. The people who run this place take care of a bunch of kitties and are also pretty nice as well. I love cats and I saw a review that talked about this place having cats so I decided to stay here and see for myself. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! I got to pet like 6 cats and one even took the time to sit on my lap for a while. Some of the cats are feral, so they are a bit scared of people but are not afraid of being seen. One of the cats was scared at first but after sitting on the bench for a while with the other cats he warmed up to me. ANYWAY the park is very nice and spacious. Laundry room has lots of washers and dryers. There is a cool playground for kids too. I've never seen such a big playground in an RV park before. The lady even let us park right next to the office so I could play with the cats more. If you don't stay here, you are missing out.

Great place just off of I-70. Nice playground for the kids. Easy in and easy out. Clean laundry room and private shower rooms.

We got to stay twice at the Salina KOA on our way to St. Louis from Denver. Salina is almost…read moreexactly halfway and made for a great stop both going to St. Louis and coming back! We stayed in site #048 both times and was a great choice. Our site was a long pull-through with full hookups and had plenty of room for our 30ft class C and toad. Because we were only staying for one night, we didn't disconnect the toad. Our site was fairly level and nicely appointed with a large patio, furniture and lawn decorations. There is lots of grass and everything is nicely maintained. The entire campground is nice and clean and the upkeep from the owners shows. Lots of little Wizard of Oz themed signs and statues are around and it makes it a fun place to walk around. Our site was on "Tornado Alley" street! (A bit more on that later!) There is a huge Adirondack chair up front for fun pictures! Lots of mature shade trees helped with the heat and although we didn't use it, the pool looked inviting. The Kamp K9 is great here! Nice and big and covered in lush grass really helped our two labs burn off some energy from the road. The store is well stocked and we ordered pizza one night and they delivered it right to our site! We would not hesitate to stay here again and look forward to it! We camped at Salina KOA Holiday in a Motorhome. FYI Summertime thunderstorms in Kansas are no joke. Had a big boomer come through late at night our first night. A bit scary. On our return stay, we got caught in a tornadic supercell between Lawrence and Topeka! Seriously scary! The campground does provide cool text alerts!

Upon arrival we we told they didn't have one of our spots booked and made us pay. We did and just figured we would call the day day or on the way back south to get it straight. After three emails and four calls the lady actually acted like I did something wrong. Even said "well after all this time I can give a full refund! Really! I argued and she gave me the full refund but then charged me a 4% cancellation fee!

They seem to forget that "First impressions are everything." The front sites appear to be mostly seasonal, long term. The pull through sites in the back had adequate space but little shade. No fire pits or grills. They just have a large trailer for trash which was open for viewing and overflowing. This isn't a quiet spot. Even in the back pull through sites the highway noise is noticeable, especially the regular truck Jake brakes. At 4:15am a train came by blowing its horn. So much for sleeping in. The bathhouse was very clean but taking a shower, I never got more than lukewarm water. They have nice laundry facilities with plenty of machines ($3.50 wash/$1.00+ to dry). The pool looks clean but the deck area and chairs are old. Honestly the office area and building looks like it was probably nice and fun in its heyday but now isn't inviting at all. The playground is also a bit rundown. Lots of potential but doesn't seem to be the kind of place the owners reinvest much back into it. Just a fresh coat of paint and stain would go a long way everywhere. I have no idea what other RV options are available in Dodge City so not sure if this is "the nice place" or not, but if I come back through I'll have to check. Even though I paid for two nights I left after day one.

We had a site in far back area where nicer rigs,5th wheels where and felt better, open area, level sotes, dirt packed, wide open full hook ups Train runs near and horns sound off, trucks drive on nearer roads with J-brakes.
