We had a great time visiting the lake, and our cabin was perfect with a very comfortable double bed for my husband and I. My 4- and 5-year-olds snuggled up in the twin bed. The Shady Grove Cabins are a perfectly vintage experience with all the modern functions, and if you have ever seen the movie cars, it is just like the Cozy Cone Motel, super cute! The cabin I stayed in was clean, comfortable, cozy, and very affordable. The owners, Kip and Mary, were extremely friendly and hospitable. Due to the pandemic, all the restaurants were closed and by the time I got settled in, the town's only grocery store was closed too. No worries though. Kip and Mary shared their supper with me. We got to stay twice at the Salina KOA on our way to St. Louis from Denver. Salina is almost…read moreexactly halfway and made for a great stop both going to St. Louis and coming back! We stayed in site #048 both times and was a great choice. Our site was a long pull-through with full hookups and had plenty of room for our 30ft class C and toad. Because we were only staying for one night, we didn't disconnect the toad. Our site was fairly level and nicely appointed with a large patio, furniture and lawn decorations. There is lots of grass and everything is nicely maintained. The entire campground is nice and clean and the upkeep from the owners shows. Lots of little Wizard of Oz themed signs and statues are around and it makes it a fun place to walk around. Our site was on "Tornado Alley" street! (A bit more on that later!) There is a huge Adirondack chair up front for fun pictures! Lots of mature shade trees helped with the heat and although we didn't use it, the pool looked inviting. The Kamp K9 is great here! Nice and big and covered in lush grass really helped our two labs burn off some energy from the road. The store is well stocked and we ordered pizza one night and they delivered it right to our site! We would not hesitate to stay here again and look forward to it! We camped at Salina KOA Holiday in a Motorhome. FYI Summertime thunderstorms in Kansas are no joke. Had a big boomer come through late at night our first night. A bit scary. On our return stay, we got caught in a tornadic supercell between Lawrence and Topeka! Seriously scary! The campground does provide cool text alerts!

Upon arrival we we told they didn't have one of our spots booked and made us pay. We did and just figured we would call the day day or on the way back south to get it straight. After three emails and four calls the lady actually acted like I did something wrong. Even said "well after all this time I can give a full refund! Really! I argued and she gave me the full refund but then charged me a 4% cancellation fee!

The people fooled us by riding up and commenting on the fireworks show saying "amazing show" "thank you for the show guys" before temporarily blinding us and whatever they threw was big enough to where I felt the vibration through my chest. They then laughed and rode into the campground where they continued to throw probably 5 or 6 more explosives... yeah... not fireworks. I called the sheriff, he was cool, but what can be done. I called the owner, hes doing what he can I assume. But I have to spend July 5th keeping my kids inside because of this place. Thanks for ruining my home town im trying to raise a small family in, much appreciated.

We pulled into the campground without any reservation, the girl at the front desk was extremely nice! She explained where everything was, gave us a map, and put us right in front of the beach! Every site has a concrete pad, which is super easy to level your RV, waterl, sewer, and electric! We also received a good same discount. The price was amazing. Very affordable. The showers, restroom and laundry facilities are all in one location. Everything is very clean. The place is very quiet. If you bring your bikes, there are miles of bicycle trails around the camp ground, and the archway which is all connected by bike or road. I would highly recommend.
