Not once did he charge me for services, instead, making sure I received the best possible medication even if my insurance refused to provide it. He worked overtime to make sure I was covered. To start this review I have to make note that the person who said he botches procedures and doesn't speak English must have gone to a completely different Dr. Mehdizadeh than me because Dr. Shahab Mehdizadeh speaks perfect English and has done nothing by exceeded my expectations when it comes to his procedures, etal. Upon entering his office for my first appointment I was immediately put at ease by his infectious personality and calm bedside manner. He is a bubbly, funny, gentle and easy going Doctor who can put you at ease with his smile. As my visit progressed, he listed to me and really showed an interest in what was going on in my medical life. I feel that he treated me with the utmost respect and competency. I was a bit put off by the Yelp reviews mainly because one bad review seemed authentic and most of the rest did not. I went to see the Dr. on 7/6, at which time I was getting refills for prescriptions I was on, the Dr. did not write one of the presciptions, opting to wait for my medical records, I signed and requested for them that day. It is 7/27 today and I am getting withdrawals from a medication that I should not be stopped, the Dr. is not returning my calls, I had to have called 20 times since this time. I hope someone comes through with the actual prescription because doing this is just flat out wrong, I can't see any other way around it, the Dr. should know the medication says on the bottle "Do Not Stop Abruptly." That or his medical malpractice should require him to do more training. On 7/28 they call me to let me know that my refill needs to be filled by my primary care doctor. After I leave a Yelp review? This isn't Dinner I ordered I was trying to get a PRESCRIPTION, this is about the most unprofessional I've ever been treated by a Dr. in my life. read more

I don't think I've ever been disappointed in a doctor enough to write a review, but I am now. My husband has ALS....one of the worst diagnoses one could get. As his disease has progressed over the past 3 years he has required much medical intervention. Sifting through all the information is like learning a new language. Fortunately we are part of an ALS Clinic at Cedars Sinai Hospital that has exceeded our expectations in terms of care and support. It was decided several months back that my husband needed to have a G-tube put in (also known as a feeding tube). He is no longer able to swallow well enough to receive any nutrition orally. Our doctors at Cedars sent us to Dr. Mehdizadeh. We made an appointment with no hesitation and went for a consultation on April 19th to set up the procedure for May 9th. We saw the doctor for a minute before the procedure and for maybe 2 minutes after that. If that weren't bad enough, Dr. Mehdizadeh (nor his office) EVER CALLED MY HUSBAND ONE SINGLE TIME after we came home. Let me repeat....NOT ONE SINGLE TIME. I had some questions soon after we came home and the best I could get was his nurse asking him my questions and getting an incomplete answer from him, via her. Really? Is my husband that unimportant to him? It was not what I ever expected from a medical professional. I advised our doctors at Cedars, who were receptive to my input. Then I moved on. Fast forward to about one week ago. My husband had some issues with pain and discomfort with the tube. I called my husband's prior GI doctor who he's used in the past for colonoscopies, etc. He was very nice but said the best thing would be to call the doctor who put in the tube. I called Dr. M's office again and spoke to his nurse. I told her in no uncertain terms about how the doctor never followed up with us after the May procedure and how disappointed we were. I told her it was OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE that I speak with Dr. Mehdizadeh. She promised to have him call me back right away. That was Wed. 8/15. Today is Wed. 8/22 and he has never called us back! (Fortunately my husband's wound has improved on it's own). There are no words for my outrage at this doctor's total lack of compassion, professionalism and lack of integrity!! read more

I am a patient of Dr. Mehdizadeh's, have been for 5 years and will continue to be. Due to the aggressive nature of my cancer I at one point had to get colonoscopies every 3 months. I have flat barely discernable polyps that are difficult to find. Dr. Mehdizadeh has to go through my colon inch by inch slow and with meticulous care. He has never missed a polyp and never caused any damage when removing these. I always wake up from procedures feeling so well that on our 4 hour drive home we usually stop to eat and do some shopping. Dr. Mehdizadeh also returns all my calls promptly and explains everything to me clearly and in perfect English. I will admit that I have had some difficulty with his present receptionist and am hopeful that she will soon be straightened up or shipped out, but as for Dr. Mehdizadeh I have only positive comments. While I wish no-one had need for this type of medical care, feel safe and blessed to have such a doctor as this. read more

Dr. Mehdizadeh was kind at our appointment, but failed to provide a comprehensive and accurate diagnosis. I have since seen other GI doctors and my symptoms have improved with the new doctor's treatments. However, my poor review is primarily due to the incompetence of the office staff as well as the billing department. I was told by the office staff that my insurance would cover the services I received and later received an $800 bill. The staff were provided with a referral letter and all insurance information needed for their insurance billing. I came to find out later that they were in fact not covered by my insurance (but would have been if they provided the referral letter that was provided to them) and are now sending me to collections. Either they are really incompetent or scamming people. read more

Like some other Yelp pages I've seen with fake reviews, the positive reviews on this page also seem fake--if not fake, then they're untrue and overly exaggerated, to say the least. Here's my impression of Dr. Mehdizadeh and his receptionist after my visits: (1) Disorganized receptionist: Good luck getting her to send in a needed prescription. I must have called about 5 times to have them send my prescription. And guess what? they never did. So I finally had enough and changed my doctor. (2) Unprofessional: He was text messaging and laughing on his phone while I was telling him about my serious illness. Then, after realizing how rude he was, he apologized and tried to act as though he was listening. (3) Money over your health: I felt pressured by him to do an endoscopy even though an endoscopy was simply not needed at the time. But for GI doctors, as you might know, doing endoscopies is easy money. (4) Careless: Promised to give me a call to go over our plan of action, but never did. When I called his office (like 5 times), the receptionist finally told me that he was not going to call and instead wanted me to see him at the office -- so that he could make more money. Hence, I strongly suggest that you save money and time by avoiding doctors like Mehdizadeh--especially if you're suffering from a serious and time-sensitive illness. read more

I was referred to this doctor by my primary care doctor. I always Google a new doctor before I make an appointment and I was hesitant to use Dr. Mehizadeh because there is one very bad review on Yelp. The reviewer said that the doctor couldn't speak English very well. I was alarmed by the review so I called my primary care doctor to voice concern and to ask for a different referral. My doctor said that Dr. Mehizadeh's reputation was unparalleled, that I shouldn't take the reviewer seriously and that I should see Dr. Mehdizadeh; I've trusted my primary care doctor for nearly 20 years and this was my first Colonoscopy, so I proceeded to make an appointment for a Colonoscopy with Dr. Mehdizadeh. First of all, the staff at Dr. Mehdizadeh's office is fantastic. Everyone was so helpful and I was called at home several times to check and see if my experience with the prep for the Colonoscopy was going alright. I can't speak highly enough about his staff! I really loved the Doctor, he's young and I was surprised to find that he speaks perfect English with not even a discernable accent, so I'm really not sure what that reviewer is talking about! Everything about the Colonoscopy was easy. I drank the stuff at night to clean the colon, got to the surgery center at 6:30AM, met with the doctor beforehand, had the procedure at 7am (I can't remember anything) met with him afterwards (he gave me a picture) and was home by 10am. Just wanted to share my extremely positive experience with Dr Mehdizadeh. I was referred by my doctor who was out of the office on a Friday afternoon. Dr Mehdizadeh was able to take me after hours, got the right diagnosis and spent considerable time on a late Friday afternoon making sure that my tests were scheduled so that I did not have to spend hours waiting in the ER. After my test came back positive he made sure at 10PM Friday evening that I got scheduled for surgery immediately instead of suffering through an entire night or letting me sit in the ER. In short, I could not recommend him high enough. Too bad Yelp only allows for 5 stars. P.S. I read Sara's review and was surprised by her opinion. I know for a fact that this is untrue "Dr. Mehdizadeh is unprofessional and rude. He can barely speak English, let alone read or write it." so I will have to take the rest of the review with a grain of salt as well. read more

I love this doctor not only is he professional but has a good sense of humor. It annoys me to read stupid comments about him. He saved my moms life and is still taking care of her. My mom has been his patient since 2008 and she absolutely loves him. He takes his time with all his patients and is always on top of things. One day my moms stomach was not doing well and we rushed her to cidar Sinai it took him less than 30 mins to go see my mom he just wanted to make sure she was doing good (eventhough they had told us he was in a procedure when we called to tell him about my mom) he is an AWESOME DOCTOR. Just had my colonoscopy with Dr. Mehdizadeh, and I will be sending all my friends and family to this wonderful doctor. He is intelligent, personable, funny, thorough, and spent a great deal of time with me after my procedure. I'm really dismayed by a couple of these bad reviews that have absolutely no bearing in the truth. I'm wondering if they are confusing him with another doctor. He speaks perfect English, and is a highly skilled doctor. As to the comment dated 7/27/11, any medical professional would insist on seeing prior records before writing a prescription for a drug. The patient could have just gone back to their original doctor and asked him to refill the prescription. That is just common sense in my opinion. read more

My 87 year old father was reffered to Dr. Mehdizadeh for GI problems. My dad needed some testing to check his upper GI and Dr. Mehdizadeh took a more conservative approach to get his testing done when other GI doctors failed to give us that option. My dad was admitted to hospital a few times where Dr. Mehdizadeh was the only doctor who was very attentive and consistent in visiting him by spending time and LISTENING to his/our concerns. Dr. Mehdizadeh is one of the best doctors I have ever been treated by! First off I agree with Jenna M...the patient who said he doesn't speak English and botches procedures is either speaking about another doctor or is just NOT a nice person. My son and I have multiple autoimmune issues and see a battery of doctors on a regular basis (GI, cardiologists, hematologists, endocrinologists, neurologists, immunologists, ophthalmologists). Dr. Mehdizadeh is by far one of the very best doctors we see. He is kind, compassionate, caring, gentle, professional and totally thorough! I went to multiple doctors over a 6 month period and nobody could tell me what was wrong with my son. Dr. Mehdizadeh tested him for H Pylori, Parasites, SIBO and performed and endoscopy (he actually recommended that he not do a colonoscopy). My son ended up having SIBO. When our insurance company refused to pay for Xifaxin which was $1000 he somehow convinced them to cover it. A couple of months ago I started bleeding very heavily when I went to the bathroom. I called his office at 3:00 pm and he immediately called the pharmacy to order the colonoscopy prep (which I started at 4:00 pm) and I was at the surgery center the next morning at 6:00 am. If I could give Dr. Mehdizadeh 10 stars I would. I can't say enough good things about this man. Not only is he a knowledgeable and phenomenal doctor but he is a truly caring human being as well. Out of all the doctors I have had to see lately because of my health condition Dr. Mehdizadeh stands apart from any other doctor I have encountered because he is actually passionate about what he does and absolutely genuine in how much he cares for his patients. After the frustrating process of seeing numerous doctors who misdiagnosed me which furthermore led me to the ER many times, all doctors would just use the last resort and try to tell me I was anxious and anorexic (when I was NOT) Dr. Mehdizadeh was truly heaven sent. He was able to properly diagnose me and has worked closely with me during my recovery. He and his front desk coordinator are always beyond pleasant, helpful and accommodating.
