The place itself is busy and reminiscing of a theater in New York or Philly. We were ushered to a specific theater in the building. Splendid acoustics. Then there was the dance company. Post-modern. Passionate. Sexy. The sudden dance moves, the facial expressions, the emotional theme. For both silent and sound-driven audiences (you could choose) it was monumental. Hard to forget. Ever.

My family has loved going to shows at the Lebanon Opera House for over a decade now. However, an…read moreexceptional experience earlier this month inspired me to write this review. My mother and I brought my dad, who has mobility challenges, to see The Music Man. It was his first time going to the theater in a wheelchair, and we were relieved that the space was accessible and that everyone was kind and accommodating. We were especially lucky to meet the wonderful David Schwartz, who was ushering the show. He truly went above and beyond to make the theater a welcoming and joyful place for us -- helping my dad to his seat, bringing him water, and even assisting us back to our car when an unexpected logistical problem forced us to leave at intermission. My father is still talking about his kindness! We are very grateful for his help and good humor and to the theater for many years of art and joy.

This is a very cool old building and an awesome resource for this town. They bring in a handful of…read morefun and unique shows and occasionally some surprisingly bigger names considering the intimate space. The building itself is currently undergoing some renovations, so hopefully it will be brought into a loving level of care; last I was there the upper floors were closed for construction, the stage needed a new floor, and there was some cracking and peeling in the ceiling. A lot of the shows are largely volunteer run, so it's often a mixed group of community members ushering folks in and taking tickets. So the customer service level ends up being a bit mixed as well. But I've generally had good experiences and found everyone to be accommodating, even if it might sometimes take them a minute to figure things out. Nice spot to see a show, although it is all seating, so maybe not ideal if you want to do some dancing.

Blow-Me-Down-Farms National Park for the Arts is a wonderful new initiative in the Upper…read moreConnecticut Valley, uniting the land and building infrastructure resources of the Saint Gaudens National Historic Park, with the artistic and immeasurable talent of Opera North, a non-profit performing arts organization in Lebanon, NH since 1984. If you're aware of the works and legacy of Augustus Saint Gauden, you may remember that it was Charles Beaman, a New York City lawyer and patron of the arts, whose friendship with Saint Gauden brought the artist to Cornish in 1885. The farm, dating to the 1770s, was bought by Beaman in 1882 and renamed Blow-Me-Down Farm after the nearby brook. Beaman immediately began building his "Blowmedown" cottage, a three story barn, and continually improved the farm adding several buildings and houses. He developed orchards and gardens and had considerable livestock. He also bought the land to the east that is now the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site. Beaman leased this property to Augustus Saint-Gaudens and his family, who came to Cornish for the first time in 1885 at Beaman's invitation. Beaman's real estate investments and his work attracting artists to the area was key to the creation of the Cornish Art Colony. The Blow-Me-Down Farm property was eventually purchased by the Saint-Gaudens Memorial, a non-profit operating partner of the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site. In 2010 the 42.6-acre Blow-Me-Down Farm was transferred to the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site. A local farmer grows corn and hays the fields. The performing arts center has a large circus tent and ample grounds for both indoor and outdoor concerts. While the original farmstead and original auxiliary buildings are being totally renovated, the place serves as both a historic place and a concert venue. We went there for one of their concerts under their relationship with Opera North and the National Park Service. Havana Nights was a superb mix of orchestral music and both, variety skits and circus acts of immense quality. Musical works of Bizet, Lecuona, Bernstein. Valdés and Rodrigo were followed by stupendously performed parts of Man of La Mancha. It was an afternoon to remember. The New Hampshire/Vermont Upper Valley. Is no stranger to culture, with an Ivy League university, several colleges nearby, and one of the most educated populations in the nation. The addition of the Summerfest is just more icing on the cake for this beautiful area's cultural heritage

It reads, "Windsor, settled in 1764, became the political center of the Upper Connecticut River Valley. Here the Constitution of the "Free and Independent State of Vermont" was adopted at the tavern of Elijah West on July 8, 1777. This constitution was the first to prohibit slavery and establish universal manhood suffrage. Vermont was an independent republic until 1791, when it was admitted into the Union as the 14th state." It was a travern then, and also located up the street, on the parcel of land which is now a Veterans Park. The Vermont constitution was far reaching -- the first to prohibit slavery, establish universal voting rights for all males, and authorize a public school system. This constitution guided the VT Republic for 14 years until 1791, when Vermont was finally admitted to the Union as the 14th State. Called the "Birthplace of Vermont", the restored Old Constitution House is open May through October. It is run by local Windsor volunteers. It is located on Main St (route 5) just south of downtown.

This is a thought-provoking museum which is in a section on the Dartmouth College campus…read more Firstly, admission is free (yay!) Secondly, there are two floors full of various art forms. I love how each exhibit was something I had never seen before. Overall, the museum is very clean and organized. I was impressed by how interactive the exhibits are: each station has questions to ask yourself and sometimes even tangible sample structures to help you better understand the art without damaging it.

The…read moreweather was perfect for people to Vermont farm life, dine on a diverse selection of foods, and partake in games and rides for all ages. Thank you to all the volunteers , vendors, and participants to keep it fun and family friendly event .

I Vermont! Now that I have that established, I can happily review this fair…read more Located in the heart of Tunbridge,Vermont right behind the town hall. It is a huge agricultural fair along with what other fair offer (rides, games, entertainment, and food.) I am giving it a 3 due the fact that it was $12 for admission. Also, when the Swine Races took place, which is a large attraction, they should have enough places for everyone to see the vent or at least hold them in an arena setting. The highlight of the fair for us was a stand called pick-a-pearl. This couple goes around New England to huge Fair's and shucks farm-raised oysters that produce pearls. For $15 a oyster this is a steal as any pearl you get is worth at very least triple that. If you are lucky, you may get a rare natural color (black or champagne). After us watching in amazement for 20 minutes as these 3 women blew paychecks, I picked one oyster and hoped for the best. I GOT A BLACK Pearl!!!! Woohoo!!!! It measured at 6.5mm and was worth unset $90! They can set it there for you in many things (necklace, ring, earring, bracelet) at various price ranges. I Had it set in a simple sterling silver chain. Later that evening we had it checked at a jewelry store and it's LEGIT! If you set it in a nice piece, it could go for upwards of $400. Next year I am returning just for the pearls : )
