Few towns in New England's interior have a downtown theater anymore. Especially one often showing nonstandard as well as current works. Hanover is lucky to have this nonprofit theater to benefit its citizens and enhance the regional cultural basis. The Hanover Improvement Society helps fund the theater, as well as the Storrs Pond Recreation Area and the Campion Ice Rink. Yes, it is older and the old-style seats done recline, but if that's the best criticism of the place, it is a superb establishment. The Nugget is cozy, with a fairly good sound system in all its different cinemas. We just saw Wicked here, well attended with a good number of college students and older folk. Nugget Theaters looks like it has never left the 90s, which is charming but is also a letdown due to the lack of up-to-date technology. The seats do not recline and there is no reserved seating available. The projection quality is lacking, making the image on the screen appear too small. read more

Great local movie theater, small and quaint. Not the most comfortable seats and not the largest screens either. The great thing is there was no line and plenty of seats when I went to see a movie that just came out. Cool small town theatre. No frills, no beer (sorry I have gotten accustomed to this as many of the big and small theatres where I used to live all had this feature!). Small screens but nice good movies. Loved being able to see a new film here and not having to drive further into Lebanon. Easy to go out and have a drink or food at the nearby restaurants afterwards. I love local theatres like this over a megaplex any day that encourage you to support the local economy before or after your film. I believe Wednesday they have a special rate, maybe $7 films? Small waiting area, ripe for superspreader event. Poor ticket office with confusing signage. Undersized screen and poor sound system. Rude staff. Audible noise from vacuuming adjacent theater when the movie was still showing. Staff in and out the back door during showing. Unlikely I will return to this theater. read more

A local classic. So many memories, including some of my first dates back in high school.

This is small town theater and is fine. There is another theater in Lebanon, and Dartmouth shows movies as well. Between the three we get the bulk of the main movies. Plus there are a nice number of indie films shown here too. My gosh there are a lot of complaints here. Granted when it's busy the lines are longer...I think that's true everywhere. And it sells out? ALL theaters sell out. The seats are fine unless you get stuck in the front row, but hey, arrive late, you get the crummy seats. Buy tickets online and arrive early, then you're fine. read more

The Nugget is a small movie theater in the middle of downtown Hanover. I have family in town, so I've seen a few movies here. It has four screens, and each room has a pretty small capacity that is consistent with the age of the theater. The tickets are $7.50 for a matinee and a little more expensive for a nighttime movie. My issue with the Nugget is that its size and set-up don't really come across as small town and quaint...it's mostly just dated and uncomfortable. The first time I visited, I reflected that it was the first time I had seen a theater without stadium seating in about 15 years. The seats go all the way to about 10 feet from the screen, and combined with the small room size, this means people end up in those very front rows with their necks craned. I felt like I needed to visit a chiropractor after tonight's movie. The movie selection is pretty limited--often a mix of new and artsy movies, but there are many times that some of the top movies in theaters are not being shown here. I think I would probably agree with people that this is the "best movie theater" in Hanover/Lebanon, but unfortunately that doesn't mean much in this case. read more

Cute little movie theater right on Main Street and nearby Morano Gelato. Good to combine gelato/movie night. The $5 Dartmouth undergrad ticket price is actually subsidized by one of the undergrad student organizations. Which is why other Dartmouth students (Thayer, Tuck, etc.) don't get the discount. This theater does not often show big blockbusters, which makes me sad, but it does show more indie films. Depends on what you're into. The HOP sometimes shows those big blockbuster films, but there are other movie theaters right outside of Hanover you can go to as well. read more

What a great, quaint little theater! It's amazing that they have so many screens tucked back behind the building. My wife and I went to see the last Harry Potter movie here yesterday afternoon and it i definitely the best theater experience in the region. The only reason we found this theater was because they were the only one in the region showing it in 2D. What a nice surprise it turned out to be. The theater is clean, the ticket and food prices were very reasonable and the overall viewing experience was a good one. read more

The Nugget is a huge step up from Entertainment but I think that people are more generous with their ratings than they should be. They've redone the entryway and concession stand in the past few years, but I'm pretty sure they haven't touched the theaters themselves (and if they have they haven't done enough). I understand the appeal of a redone, old theater, but the Nugget is only halfway there. I've seen some very impressive theater renovations in Corning, NY and Gettysburg, PA and the Hanover Improvement Society has some more work to do. Don't sit in the front five rows or you'll walk out with a neck cramp. read more

Well you can't beat the location! Right on Main St, it's just a hop skip and a jump away from all of Hanover. 5 screens means you can certainly find one, maybe two movies you'd enjoy seeing. Unfortunately, in this world of 18 screen megaplexes it's always a sad day when a new movie comes out and the Nugget isn't playing it. I wish they'd upgrade to stadium seating, but I guess I'll let it slide in order to support a local, independent business. read more

I went to this theater 3 years ago and the Manager M, thats right M was super rude to us. Fast forward a year later and the center channel in theater 4 was buzzing and ruined any quite scenes in the film, 1 year later same theater same exact issue they never fixed it. Monday Feb 7th 2016 went to see a movie and gum was under several seats. I know this theater does well with their higher then average prices so I wish they would maintain it better and be nicer to the customers . read more

Dated and poorly run. Arrived for a showing and was told the schedule was changed, and "We need to get someone to change the online listing." Came back to the later screening to find the advertised 3D showing was only being shown in standard 2D. Screens are undersized, and seats sit too low for the height of them. read more

We decided to go to a movie for the first time ever on Christmas Day. I was surprised how many other people had the same idea to go to the Nugget, and the earlier showing we wanted actually sold out, leaving us to come back a few hours later. The ticket prices did seem a little high. This is the Upper Valley we're talking about, not Boston. Once again, another Hanover business that capitalizes off Dartmouth students. Maybe it was because there were so many people waiting for two movies to start at the same time, but the Nugget's entryway set up -- with people lined up out the door with the ticket booth guy yelling over everyone to part the line and allow people through -- left something to be desired. While the smaller theater size is more cozy, I hated the seats. They were reclined so far back to the point that you could go to sleep. I found myself either straining my neck just to sit up or otherwise hunched forward in my seat with no backrest. While I can't vouch for other seats in the theater, my feet stuck to the soda/popcorn butter/melted candy on the floor. Kind of gross. At least the movie I saw (Joy) was good. I don't know what happened to the Nugget theater I remember from the past, but I hope things can get turned around for the future. read more

The Nugget was once a one screen theater with 750 seats. Today it is a little jewel box of 4 theaters. It is owned and operated by a non-profit community organization. It is the oldest continuously running movie theater (in several locations within Hanover) in the United States. It is worth your patronage. read more

Low quality and dated venue. Tickets are expensive compared to normal movie theaters. Mainly shows out-of-date Hollywood flicks. The theaters are just plain bad. Long and narrow like bowling alleys, low ceilings, and flat floor (ie no stadium seating). Screens are tiny and low to the ground. If anyone sits in front of you, it blocks the view. Low audiovisual quality. Uncomfortable seats. Bathrooms are far away from the theaters, down a staircase and hallway. For some reason this theater attracts sadistic people who bring small infants to late-late showings of loud R-rated action flicks. No parking lot. You'll need to use the town lot a few blocks away, or find metered street parking if the movie is less than the 2 hour limit. read more

Located in the heart of Hanover this is a quaint little theater. The outside though is much different from the inside. I traveled recently here with friends and was astounded by the prices I found. Concessions were no better with little help from those working. Almost to the point of being rude in fact. As we sat for the movie I quickly realized that at least one speaker was blown, with others buzzing around us like a colony of trapped bees. I was also very unimpressed by the trashcan located directly in front of the screen, which was also under a spotlight, causing all attention to be taken from the movie and instead directed to this obsolete R2-D2 copy cat. This theater makes tons of money off of the many who travel through the area and with the college, and for theater enthusiasts such as myself, it is sad to see that instead of reinvesting and improving, they continue to neglect what could be a beautiful place.
