Black Swan offered a nice selection of beer and a small food menu. We ordered peanuts to go with our beer. The beer is definitely the star of the show here. You can order a flight with 4 or 5 beers and they are clearly marked on the flight. The service was good and staff were friendly. We enjoy sitting for about an hour and took a six pack to go. There was a study stream of people buying beer to go. We did not realize there was a strike which was causing shortages of beer and alcohol in stores.

You might think beer was my primary motivation, and in the beginning it was. Block 3 is a small batch craft brewery that delivers on tasty beer. They generally have ten to twelve beers on tap ranging from lagers, ales, sours and sometimes a stout. They are all delicious in their own right although drinking barrel aged fruited sours is an acquired taste in my book, but trust me try them and you may learn to love them. But why else should you go? There is limited food (it's a brewery not a restaurant), no TV's to watch the game, a steady stream of classic rock playing in the background, kids running around and a few dogs to greet you on the way in. To make matters worse the cell reception is awful, my wife always had a hard time reaching me. Hmm, maybe that's not all bad... What kind of place is this, anyway? It's a modern twist on an old fashioned FAMILY oriented brewery, that's what! There are plenty of board games to play, the local regulars are always happy to share some stories, and the staff are the coolest people around. They have a great Mug Club and if you are lucky you get your own hand-thrown pottery mug with your name on it! Very cool... Drinking beer at the bar- table while he keeps you company and keep offering you samples( without anything in return) makes you experience pleasure. Now the beer: IPAs are great. I loved Hopposites Attract the most, there was an charity beer, the earning from which 100% goes families with cancer kids, i loved the idea, that with the right intentions, one can help the society by any means! Be it the beer. Sunkiss is their regular IPA it was citrus and refreshing. For snacks are usual but very cheap, not a rip-off! So the overall experience is excellent. Coming back here soon!!!!!

They then bring the food out to you. Let's talk about the food! More specifically, let's talk about the poutine! I'm not Canadian, but I have had poutine before - and theirs might be the best I have ever had. The gravy was amazing, you could tell they add beer when they are making it. I also tried their regular cheeseburger - cooked perfectly, juicy, and delicious. If I hadn't had the poutine, I'd give it high marks for the burger alone. Don't sleep on this place, it's great. Now, I don't consume alcohol, so I can't comment on the quality of their beer - but my work colleague said it was very good. I did try their vanilla soda - and it was really good. High marks all around!

It was a "seat yourself", order your food & pick up your own drinks brewpub. The server themselves seemed to be doing little except deliver your food & clear the tables. My food was the TexMex Nacho Wrap ($17.00) w waffle fries. It SHOULD have been piping hot cause it took 45 minutes for us to get our food!! Instead, it was lukewarm with not much taste to it to boot! This was disappointing as the menu (attached) LOOKED very nice but the food disappointed. Our server(s) were less then polite & it kinda turned me off from the get go. I'm a bit torn about this brewery as I had a pleasant visit and the lone female running the place was awfully nice. However, $8/can of beer??!! I did ask the girl if my eyes were deceiving me and she confirmed that their cost of materials/operation went up significantly after the Pandemic. :( I completely understand this, especially since they're a small batch brewery. Although I feel for this small business, $8/can is completely cost prohibitive. Their Pints ($12)/Flights ($15/4 x 2oz glasses), although on the "higher-end" is inline with other bigger city breweries. Not sure how they keep these prices within normal range while their cans are about twice that of LCBO/Beer Store! I don't know whether to feel bad or complain about this pricing, but I'm sure they already know the general sentiment about this. One thing that I MUST complain about is that they offer a store discount if you subscribe to their newsletter off their website. However, there's very, very little available online as most of their items seem to be "sold out". Not a great impression on that offer.

Despite TWB doesn't serve the kind of beer I like because I found it to be too hoppy for me, my friend who like a much broader type of beers found this to be very, very good. Porbably one of the best top 3 experienced in the entire Waterloo/Kitchener area. So, since the standards my friend and I apply to the service and food industry are the same, I believe that the product TWB provides to its customers are of high standards. The brewery is small and very welcoming. We had the luck to meet with Shawn and Alex who introduced us to their product and the TWB phylosophy. They welcomed us with enthusiasm and promptly engaged in a conversation. You could tell they did not because they were trying to sell you something or because "we gotta do it because it's our job". They did it because that's what they like to do and because they believe in what they do. So, if you are in town, please, go and pay them a visit. It's worth your time.
