Tremont Park is a medium-size green space in the middle of Tremont neighborhood in north-western…read moreBronx. It borders to the north with E Tremont Avenue, to the east with Arthur Avenue, to the south with E 175th Street, and to the west with Third Avenue. On the north-west corner there's an ornate staircase that climbs to some grassy fields. In 1995 the park was renovated, and several additions were made: chess/checkers tables, a baseball/softball field, spray showers, racquetball courts, and some new trees. The place is peaceful... I was here last weekend and there was barely anybody around. You would think that those amenities would attract locals, but it's just not happening. You can tell that, despite its huge potential, this park has been neglected by the city. The staircase is heavily damaged, the grass is a couple of feet high in some places, and there's a feeling of partial abandonment strolling it's paths. It's a pity, because it could look awesome. The close vicinity of this park with commercial and touristic Arthur Avenue could play a vital role in resuscitating its usage. However, the Italian Arthur Avenue is several blocks north, and a few minutes walk from here.

I'm thankful to Phil for adding this to Yelp. I've taken photos over the years because it's a favorite arch of mine. It's named for its distinctive archway and it is unique in Central Park. It's the only arch with a different façade on each side. The east side features the trefoil (or three-lobed) archway, while the west side is a simpler rounded arch leading to a stairway. When it's covered in vines I find it hard to enjoy it's beauty. I still recommend you visit to see the inside and the details of the design.

Wisteria Pergola at 6th Avenue and East 70th Street…read more One day, totally by accident, I came across the Wisteria Pergola while hiking. What an absolutely beautiful structure. I searched nearby everywhere to find a sign with information. I only found a rock with a plaque that has the name and a date. This is a relaxing place to sit. It's high above a wooded area. There's really nothing to view when you are sitting in the pergola. It's the rustic structure that is enjoyable. There's plenty of benches. It's isolated so I was the only one there. It's peaceful and good for sitting in the shade. The area is clean and well maintained. I really enjoyed being there. I couldn't stop taking photos from all angles. It's a very long structure with interesting curves in the wood. I recommend you visit. If you want more information you'll have to research the Wisteria Pergola on the internet. There's a lot of restaurants and shopping opportunities nearby too. Enjoy!

An oasis in Morningside Heights which the rest of Manhattan doesn't seem to know about…read more Sitting beside St. John the Divine Cathedral, many folks don't seem to realize that there's a gorgeous, secret garden hiding behind the infamous Peace Fountain. I was on my way to the Cathedral when I suddenly noticed some people walk into this lovely garden.It didn't look private and made a mental note to check it out afterwards. And boy am I glad I did! Scattered with spiritual art and statues (i.e St. Francis of Asissi feeding the birds), take your time to walk around a bit and you'll be rewarded with some very unexpected, pleasant surprises here, especially if you are into spiritual art like I am. I bought my lunch at a nearby market and spent a delightful, hot sticky afternoon, underneath the shade of a cool oak tree, eating my lunch with the soaring spires of the Cathedral in front of me, surrounded by trees, flowering bushes and the sounds of children playing. It is a lovely spot with some great mojo.

The gates and the greenery caught my eye - but what was beyond those gates was simply incredible... This small area, with unexpected complexity fountain and sculptures - both in central piece, along the edge of the fountain, and on the walls surrounding the area is most beautiful thing I've seen lately. The detailing, the imagination, and just sheer wander of it - is something you rarely find in the city. It's a quiet oasis of wonderful in the middle of hustle and bustle of metropolitan area - and I tip my hat to creativity and beauty of it.

There is the 'Polish zone'. This is mainly a large parking lot surrounded by patches of parkland, where mainly Polish families come on weekends to pick nick. And then, there's the beach. As crowded as the parking lot may be, the beach is always quiet, and the view is beautiful: it really is a bay, with a settlement of houses planted haphazardly among the trees on the left side. Here, you find beautiful small pebbles, and the swimming is good. I always heard that the East Coast had a cold Gulf Stream while Europe has a warm one, but I can assure you that the water is surprisingly warm much warmer than the North Sea and this from June until well into autumn. Wolfpond Bay has the cleanest beach of New York - but not too many people know it
