Shaking Boba takes the GOLD for boba! Been to so many local boba cafes in Des Moines but Shaking Boba does it the best. I appreciate the different milk options for the milk teas. Very accommodating and food allergy safe cafe. We love all their milk and fruit teas with boba. And they have NEVER run out of boba when we've visited. Even at the end of the night right before closing. That speaks VOLUMES of their management. They have even served us 10 minutes before closing with my phone order to cure my boba addiction. Service is always friendly. The owner, Paray, is there sometimes and she makes our visits so pleasant. Cafe is easy to find on University, plenty of parking, and shop is always clean. Super cute decor with egg seats and booths. Seasonal decorations make this cafe super fun to visit all year long. I love how Shaking Boba loves their community. Sometimes they host special events. I've ordered here multiple times before I moved out of Iowa but it's so good. I usually order the mango bubble tea. It has a yogurt mango taste but it's not too sour the way yogurt is. It's tart and flavorful. It may be too sweet for some but you can adjust the sweetness percentage! The atmosphere is like a candy shop when you walk in. You can't really see the workers because there's a massive wall blocking you from them but they have a self ordering station at that wall. So if you're an introvert or would prefer not to talk to anyone this is a good place to get boba! read more

Fast service, the mango was too sweet for me but that was on me cuz I forgot to ask for 25%. The avocado shake was good though. It's a little pricey for me but whatcha gonna do. That's everywhere right now. It's definitely more for like if you want to treat yourself every once in a while cuz it could definitely add up. read more

I had high hopes for this place, the interior is very cute and the lady at the counter was very nice, I got a taro milk tea with tapioca and it was not good. tasted like taro nesquick but somehow worse, watery. it was very watered down and the tapioca were almost hard. Stopped by this new(ish) shop in Clive with my daughter today. It's in the strip between FedEx and Little Caesars if you know the area. First impression. I liked it. It's a nice open atmosphere. Menu boards are easy to read. There's seating available to comfortably wait while your order is prepared. Standard order and pay at the front and they call your name when your order is ready. We ordered a Hokkaido milk tea (50% sugar with coffee jelly) and a Strawberry Sunset smoothie with strawberry popping. Total came to $14 and change. The drinks were great. Service was good. Two things to note. Drinks only come in one size. They don't use a thermal sealer so you don't get that satisfying "pop" when you hit it with the straw. *** Correction *** They do have a thermal sealer. I guess they just ran out of the cups it uses today. A good first visit and I'm sure we'll be return customers. The kids love a good smoothie selection! read more

Forgot to review this back in November. Today I remembered why. So I had ordered from here prior to being in the store (Uber eats) and loved the mad mango smoothie with the mango poppings. I loved the cute decor inside. Now the service it was not it; The lady who took our order didn't hear me right and instead of mango poppings she put regular boba which was not what I asked. I understand it could of been a mistake and she might of pressed the wrong button but when I went to get it fixed she seemed annoyed and all she did was take out the smoothie and add it onto a new cup with the mango poppings. Which just made it look messy. So therefore that is why I took off two stars. Overall the smoothie was still good just the service could had been better. Now today my husband went for me and ordered the same thing. Asked for two of them and only got one. Went to get another and instead of okay ill make another he gets rudely commented that she only heard one order of this. Okay regardless just be nice! How hard is it? We are doing you a service and would be tipping if you were not so rude all the time. So sad to be treated this way for a smoothie you truly enjoy! I am not one to give bad reviews but since this is now the second time it makes me wonder why the people working here are so unhappy. Just checked out Shaking Boba yesterday with my cousin. The drinks menu is big enough that you can find something you like and/or may want to try, but I can't wait for them to add more choices! They also serve bubble waffles! We tried the original. The portion was actually small for the price compared to what I'm used to, but the flavor was good!! I'm excited to try the other flavors. They also serve Shaved Ice! Luckily, they had my milk tea flavor that I love even though it wasn't on the menu. It was pretty good. A little watered down tasting but the flavors were there! My personal favorite order is always Wintermelon Milk Tea with Oreo, Boba and Egg Pudding. There is one place in town that makes it the best, but I'm excited that this place has wintermelon and can customize for me. My cousin tried the matcha with no sugar and she said it was good. I am looking forward to coming back and trying more flavors! Excited and happy that we have more boba options! My only complaint really is that they need a separate area/counter to pick up the orders. Right now the taking of the orders and picking up of the orders are at the same spot. Dropped in on a hot day for something refreshing. The ladies were friendly, fast, welcoming, and answered all questions we had since it was our first time. The decor inside is super cute! When you first walk in there are a couple little couches, a little archway, and it is very clean, love the little details on the wall as well. Great customer service, very friendly and helpful. They are very knowledgeable about their products as well. There is a scent though when you walk in that may assault you if you are extra sensitive. I moved here from CA about two weeks ago and I was craving boba SO BAAADDDD. I found this spot and when I walked in I was really impressed with the decor. The menu is large and easy to read and the staff was very welcoming. They have a point system, so they will provide you a small card and each time you buy you get a check, and on the tenth one it's on the house. My family and I ordered two shaved ices, a milk tea w pearls, and two smoothies. It was all very delicious, my favorite was the taro ube shake and the mad mango. 10/10 would recommend and 10/10 will be coming back. read more

One of the 5 drinks we ordered had something metal in it. I am not sure if this was a small part of the machine they use or something else. It was really thin like a short hair. This is after multiple visits over the year so this is new to me. I will probably take a short break for a while but let's be real, this is probably the best boba spot in the area so don't let this review stop you from going again. Interior is really cute too :) Pricing is pretty average for boba shops depending on what you get, expect to pay between 5-7 dollars per drink. I wanted to try a new Des Moines boba shop and Shaking Boba was fairly new to me as I don't live in Des Moines year-round anymore. I decided to uber eats the boba and it got here within 45 minutes. I ordered the Tigersugar Boba. I had asked for half sugar, half ice in the order comments + requests box online, but I'm not entirely sure if staff can see those for uber eats orders. My boba, to my personal taste, was extremely sweet. I would recommend if you want to try this boba shop to go in person! They do have a variety of drinks, toppings, and snacks that were listed on their menu. I don't think I'll be ordering the Tigersugar Milk Tea again though. I'm still on the hunt to find my perfect Black Milk Tea in Des Moines, so I might try that next. read more
