If you are lucky you can get parking close by but realistically you are walking from the school parking lot nearby which is about a 10 minute walk. The Haw River ballroom crowd is a very particular type of aging scene person crowd where a lot of people like to bring their kids and force them to listen to the music they like. The crowd also loves to be uncomfortably close at times too. A lot of dudes not realizing they are jamming you in the back with their craft beers or women flipping back their hair into your face time and again. This place is really a haul even for people in Durham where it's past Carrboro and in the middle of nowhere. The restrooms are pretty nasty. I do love that they have a coffee bar upstairs that has a decent menu and honestly something I liked having access to at a concert and feeling a little tired as I waited for the headlining performer.

Their website threatens that you'll be towed if you park on the side of the road yet tons of people do it anyway. The front door is a bottleneck because they have a paper list that they're checking for your name on. Also the bar only takes cash so they have an ATM on site. What year is it? The staff were friendly, but since I want about to use an ATM I didn't really interact with many of them. I'll go there if there's an artist I really want to see, but I don't think the venue alone would draw me.

I had always thought of it just for the summer music series. Yet inside you can browse a book, your children play with toys or even buy an ice cream sandwich for $1 while listening to amazing music - well that is a rare gem. The community raises funds to buy the old general store and now it is open on occasions throughout the year - Great musicians are hosted and people are kind and welcoming.

Though the general store closed several years ago, the charming old post office and sundry shop is still the gathering place for music lovers of all ages. Bring a chair (or a kind volunteer will set one out for you) and sit back while a band entertains you from 7-9 p.m. I saw the Wehutty Mudpuppies this week--a great old time string band that had young and old dancing on the lawn. See the summer lineup here: http://www.bynumfrontporch.org/index.php?page=calendar It's an alcohol-free event (though I did notice some folks discretely drinking malt beverages from travel mugs). There's also a food truck or two with hot dogs, barbecue, and ice cream. Go back to a sweet, simpler time and check out the Bynum Front Porch Series. It's good old-fashioned fun.

I've been to Flat Iron for a variety of events over the years, live music, dance/rave nights,…read morerandom events on Monday. I've always had a great time. It's a small, intimate venue, which makes every event feel more personal and creates a great connection between the performers and the audience. The owners are musicians themselves, and it really shows. They understand what makes a great venue and consistently bring in a diverse lineup of entertainment. While Flat Iron is a bar, they also allow guests under 21 to attend many of their live music events, making it an accessible spot for music lovers of all ages. Their drink selection is solid too, with sodas, beer, wine, cocktails, hard seltzers, and THC beverages available. As a locally owned and operated business, Flat Iron is one of those places that helps make Greensboro's music and arts scene special. I'll definitely be back the next time I see something on their calendar. If you're interested in checking them out, give them a follow on Instagram for the latest shows and events. you never know what fun you'll discover next, they have up and coming artists and even nostalgic local bands and artists from the past.

One FYI: they charged an extra $5 for my brother at the door because he's under 21, which wasn't disclosed during online purchase or listed anywhere on the site.

The first was a craft beer festival in the spring, and it was a great outdoor venue for walking around and casually sampling many different beers. Our second visit was to see a Larry Fleet concert, and again was a great experience. It is small enough to feel like an intimate show, but large enough to not feel crowded despite a strong turnout. Alcohol pricing is perfectly reasonable and with a capable bar, and it's nice having food trucks. Add to that nearby free parking and easy entry, and what's not to love for a concert venue?? On a cold October night, we really appreciated having the fire pits burning not only for the warmth but also that wonderful smoky smell that fits the season. It's really nice having a decent venue so close to home, and I'm trying to remember to check their website more often for upcoming events.

It's outdoors, so there is good and bad with that. You can be rained out, and it can be quite hot, but for the most part it works and is flexible. We went to a concert and the sound was fine, but I don't think that is necessarily Ziggy's fault anyway. There were separate areas for purchasing drinks. I do think they need to change the way the drink lines work because they were loooong and some lines were only half-staffed. The staff running the place were super friendly and really busting it. Overall, they've got a nice space and a bunch of nice people working for them. At this point, it's all just minor tweaks.
