This used to be our favorite and the only good place around, we drive 30+ minutes just to get this as it was the only real good Asian food within reasonable distance from home . My companion raved about the Kung Pao Pork and white rice. Clean and comfortable casual dining is a bit dated but benefits from large windows and daylight. Probably the best Chinese restaurant around here. Not too greasy and always fresh. Things I like: Moo Shu Pork , Sesame Shrimp (if you don't mind sweetness), Steamed dumplings (the thick, doughy kind, yum!), Cold sesame noodles, Egg rolls, Barbecue Spare Ribs and if you're on a diet, they have a special Diet Menu of mostly steamed protein and vegetables, a great option. Things I was more lukewarm about: Bean Curd home style has fried tofu and the brown sauce lacked flavor. The Szechuan Shrimp was all hot chili oil, it was very spicy filled with peppercorns which is authentic but lacked any nuance of balance. Like pouring hot chili oil down your throat. I couldn't finish it. Their fried rices too are pretty bland and not worth the extra calories. Portions are generous. Busy take out business, expect 45-1 hr wait for your order on Fri and Sat. Dine in is no frills--not a date destination--but the family that own it is lovely; all of their sons work here. Not the best food, friendly staff. Started with soups- hot and sour, tomato egg drop, wonton egg drop. Ordered schezuan bean curd, sesame chicken, ma po tofu. Soups were better than the mains. Shanghai is a Kent staple. They are open late, deliver & offer take-out. They take pride in their food and include only fresh ingredients. The owners are extremely friendly and they provide generous portions! I have enjoyed two prior meals here but just had a very poor experience. I ordered two dishes for pickup and arrived at the appointed time and was told my food was "almost ready" and they were "working on it." I waited for another half hour and saw almost nothing come out of the kitchen. I inquired further and was told again my food was "almost ready." Losing patience, I insisted on knowing if they had even begun to cook my order, and they sheepishly admitted they had not. Worst Chinese food I have ever had hands down. Not only did I order contactless pick up and the woman showed up to give me my order without a mask but everyone in the kitchen was maskless and gloveless. Inexcusable given it's October now in a pandemic. Also the food was awful awful awful. Dry chicken. My husband had the sesame chicken and I had the general. Same sauce only difference was sesame seeds. The fried rice didn't have any egg or any flavor. Bland yellow rice with dried out flavorless pork bits. For some reason, the address does not show on the listing, only a post office box. The address is 8 Landmark Lane, Kent. This is a small street into a small shopping center. It is a turn to the east off of route 7, about 100 yards south of the IGA. As the other listings say, the family that runs it is very friendly. The food is delicious. It is not Shanghainese food, but nicely done, American - style Chinese. My wife is from Shanghai, and does not usually like Americanized Chinese food, but she gave this high marks. It was delicious, without being super salty or greasy, as Chinese food can be. Most of their business seems to be take away, but they do have several large tables, too, and the place is comfortable enough to sit in an eat. The owner mentioned that they close for a week in March, and for the month of August, otherwise, open 7 days / week. We will return, and recommend you try it, too. read more

It is really, really hard to find good Chinese food outside of NYC and Westchester....in fact, we've been searching for years. We recently ordered from Shanghai and it was really good. It is pretty much a standard Chinese restaurant menu, but the food was not greasy and it seemed to be made with fresh ingredients. It will be our go to place even though the drive is further than other chinese restaurants. The staff is really friendly and the food was ready when they said it would be. We haven't eaten in the restaurant yet (just got take out) but the dining room looks nice, like a real restaurant and not just a couple of tables in the front like all of the other Chinese places around here! read more

Great little Chinese restaurant. I've gotten take out here a few times as they are open later than other restaurants in the area (used to live in the city, so it is nice to find a place open late). Very cold inside. Eeeek. They plugged in a small space heater next to the end booth and the room smelled of burning plastic when I came in. I had to keep my down jacket on because my table was two down from the heat source! The table next to me was full of dirty dishes and half eaten food. Gross. Six people had been there and gone and nobody was lifting a finger to clean off the table! Astounding because the restaurant was practically empty. I stared at the dirty food for oh, 20 minutes or so, waiting for my husband to come. We ended up taking out. Ordered something SIMPLE and it was NOT GOOD. The chicken friend rice was the weirdest I've ever had...they used a heavy yellow rice and there were absolutely no seasonings in it. The chicken with broccoli wasn't much better. Honestly, it was the worst Chinese food I've ever had. I lived in NYC for years so yes, I'm spoiled but this food was unacceptable. Get the heating problems fixed and be brave with some seasonings! Not one good thing to say about this place since the new owners took over. They are rude, the food is never ready when it's preordered in fact everytime I've picked up, my food wasn't even started until I got there. I've called to place orders and just been hung up on because they other line was ringing. Another time I called to place an order and was told simply no because they were to busy and to call back in an hour. After waiting the hour, stupidly I called back and was again told the same thing. The last time I went in I was ignored at the counter until I said "hello can someone please take my order" only to find out that they had run out of just about everything I tried to order. I ended up just leaving. I don't think I will ever try ordering or going there again. I do not recommend this place! read more

Really good... I guess thats how I would use to describe them. I eat there all the time because they have really good food. I am simply addicted to their broccoli and garlic sauce, pork fried rice, and ribs. The owners are really nice as this is a family owned business, I very much like how prompt the are with the orders. I love these guys, super friendly and accomodating. I am picky about chinese food, I try to avoid all the salty sauces. They always cater to my diet and make things just the way I ask. They will also mix-and-match foods, adding or taking away aspects of a meal that you do/don't want. Sometimes it's a little bit of a wait, as they get very busy running deliveries & it's just the two of them. The only chinese food place where my order comes out right every time! All other chinese food places seem to have trouble understanding or they rush you while you order-not these guys! read more
