The waiters are friendly, attentive, and make you feel welcome every visit. The restaurant itself is huge, super clean, and has a stage and giant TV screens that give it a fun, lively atmosphere. This time we ordered the pork shumai, shrimp dumplings, BBQ pork buns, and my personal favorite- the hot and sour soup. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were craving. We also grabbed some creamy egg yolk buns to take home for dessert, and they did not disappoint. Easy to find parking.

The dimsum consistently comes out hotter too. We came today and had a bit of a sour experience. My MIL thought that the dishes were miscounted on our stamp sheet, and somehow the cart ladies and the manager(?) got involved. Everyone started counting dishes for a heated 5-10 mins. My MIL insisted the # of dishes were incorrect and the ladies kept counting out loud (and it got louder) but I feel like everyone kept on counting different numbers. Haha, it was kinda awkward and silly. One of the cart ladies seemed frustrated, briefly walked away and then came back and started using a random pair of chopsticks on the table to bang against each dish to count it aloud. Thought that was very classless no matter who was in the wrong. Just bad hygiene and rude. Ultimately, not sure who counted wrong or if my MIL made a mistake. Also, the cart lady avoided us on purpose after the altercation. She eventually came back later with her cart and I very specifically asked her for egg custard bun. She gave us the running salty egg yolk one..when I told her this she exploded at us. Very rude. She was already on the defense without us even saying much. The manager tried her best to deescalate everything so I could appreciate that. Another random thing that I caught was a male manager was refilling our pot of tea and he didn't even announce himself and hurriedly brought the super hot pot of tea between two people that were sitting closer to each other than the slot next to them between another pair on our table...I just thought that was so thoughtless and inconsiderate. My experience all other times have been good, so I'll chalk this down to the stress of the July 4th weekend breaking people down inside & projecting it on customers lol

China Max has some of the best buns and dumplings that I've ever had. I usually struggle with AYC restaurants because I feel pressured to finish everything but I didn't in this location. I'm fact, I kept ordering more food! Will most definitely come back!

We were excited to learn that China Max was re-opened, but certainly since the fire, there have been many very good Chinese restaurants that have opened in North County, . . . . . and you don't need to deal with the horrible parking situation on Convoy, which always biases my opinion. But, here we were, excited to celebrate my MIL's birthday, and she gorged every dish that came out like she hadn't eaten in weeks. So, I know she enjoyed the meal and the celebration. She would just shove out her plate to ensure she got to pick out the best bite of every dish that arrived, ensuring my father-in-law didn't take it first, . . . . . . as he was in the prime location as food was delivered to the table, . . . . . even while still having food in her mouth and chewing. Comical, to say the least. Interestingly my father-in-law did everything he could to ensure she always got the first and best bites and kept asking her if she wanted more of the dishes she liked. The food is marginal in quality and it's like fast-food assembly-line kitchen prepped food and lacks the artistry of really quality Chinese food. I used to run joint venture companies in China, as early as the late 1980's and traveled extensively to the many provinces and was gifted the TRUE FLAVOR of REAL Chinese food, . . . which of course, biases my opinion. Service by our waitress was wonderful, efficient, and really great, and she was wonderfully kind in bringing out a beautiful Birthday dish for my MIL based on chocolate buns and red bean buns. So, I know she enjoyed the food HOWEVER, . . . . . .I have no interest or plans to ever return, because I have so many other options to enjoy quality Chinese food in other locations.

It's been around since my parent's generation and we had a family luncheon that they picked this place. We arrived at 11am on a Friday and quickly placed our order. It's no longer push cart and you order from the menu. I was on my hour lunch break and it took 30 minutes to get the food. I guess it's a good thing that food is made fresh but if you're on a time crunch, don't dine here. Service was non existent. They were short staff and if you wanted something, good luck on waiving them down because they don't come to check on you. We ended up ordering more food and waited. Turns out, it was never placed. Make sure they print out a slip as proof so you know your order was placed. As far as price, it ranges from $6.68 to $11.88. Average was $9.68 like the siu mai. That's $2.50 each! Price increase and quality went down. The har gow skin was thick, the siu mai was bland. Chicken feet was decent. It has free parking. Inside was bright and they have a private room.
