If you are looking for an authentic Cantonese restaurant : be warned: don't come here. The best so far has been the Nobel Chef and a close second would be the Imperial Dynasty. If you don't know what Cantonese cuisine is then stop reading now. The waitress was nice but you can't fix "stupid". We wanted to order a combination meat dish half bbq pork and half steam chicken. This is a common offering at all Cantonese restaurants . But instead of getting what we ordered.. we got a whole big plate of steamed chicken a a big plate of bbq pork. I made them take back the pork and not to charge us for it. The next thing we ordered was pan fried seafood noodles, standard Cantonese fried noodle dish with Chinese broccoli, chunks of fish, shrimp and squid. Well there were only 3 pieces of shrimp 2 pieces of squid and the rest was a lot of chunks of fish. The fried noodle underneath the seafood should be drenched in a delicious sauce, but it was not so the noodle was very dry. Makes you wonder where they got the cook from. The last dish we ordered was stir fried water spinach. The spoilage itself but the poured way too much salt on it. And lastly... the bill... $90. I really don't mind paying $80 to $120 for a dinner for two. But this place does not have the server or the guy in the kitchen justify the price. Very disappointed. San Diego county doesn't have many dim sum places and this is a good option for locals. The food is ok, but it's nice that one can come here for all day dim sum. Dumplings were a little too thick for my preferences. Then some other skins would fall apart because of being over steamed. Maybe this was an issue of being here at end of day? Service and ambiance is old school as it reminds me of dim sum in the 90s, except there are limited selections that they push around in carts (mainly dessert). You have to order most things off the menu. Don't be shocked if servers ask gruffly "what do you want?" and if they just quickly drop dishes off at the table. This experience is more about enjoying your company than your service. They also have a pretty comprehensive menu of Chinese/cantonese options. What stood out here are their "house special" crabs and lobsters, but we didn't get those this visit. read more

So this place really surprise me. I am not used to have finding good Chinese food in San Diego, especially dim sum but this place really lived up to its reputation on yelp. It does look like a mom and pop Chinese restaurant and I love that they still push around the food and carts. My favorite dishes were the Peking duck, tripe, and the steam crêpe. The only thing I didn't like was the deep fried shrimp ball. I thought it was not crispy enough and had way too much dough, but the shrimp inside was good. This place is perfect for large groups and you can make a reservation if necessary. The service is also good, better than a lot of Chinese restaurants that I've been to. It is a little far out the way from the other Asian area in Convoy, but I think it's worth a trek on a weekend. Prices are standard for dim sum nowadays my husband really liked their big screen TV. Been here at least 5 times, and we just can't get enough of the delicious food. The service is always on point. The waiters are friendly, attentive, and make you feel welcome every visit. The restaurant itself is huge, super clean, and has a stage and giant TV screens that give it a fun, lively atmosphere. We ended up trying this spot because it kept popping up on our Instagram feed, and since we both love dim sum, we figured why not. We ordered a little bit of everything: shrimp har gow, shrimp siu mai, shrimp rice rolls, BBQ pork, Young chow fried rice, egg drop soup, crab meat soup, chicken feet, ginger scallion tripe, and xiao long bao. First thing I noticed most of the shrimp dishes tasted really similar. I get that they're all shrimp-based, but the har gow, siu mai, and rice rolls kind of blended together flavor-wise. The siu mai was packed with shrimp, which I appreciated, but it just didn't stand out. The chicken feet were actually good though. The xiao long bao was probably the most disappointing for me. It was dry and didn't have that juicy, flavorful broth you expect. The BBQ pork was also on the dry side, so the sauce definitely helped carry it. The fried rice was okay nothing special, just your standard fried rice. As for the soups, both the egg drop and crab meat soup tasted pretty typical. Not bad, but nothing memorable either. I was honestly hoping for more crab in the crab soup I think I got like one strand in my bowl. Overall, I'd say the place is just average. It's not bad, but it's not something I'd go out of my way for either, especially considering the price. Most of the dim sum dishes are around $6-$9+, and I've definitely had better (and cheaper) at other spots. Outstanding Experience at Diamond Palace Restaurant! From the very first phone call today Sept 3rd, my experience with Diamond Palace Restaurant was exceptional. I had several questions before making our plans, and Lian was incredibly helpful, patient, and knowledgeable. She answered all of my questions, and when one question was not completely clear, she had Michael, the manager, provide the answer I needed. They were both extremely accommodating, especially compared to other restaurants I contacted while making arrangements. When we arrived at the restaurant, Lian welcomed us warmly with a beautiful smile and made us feel genuinely appreciated from the moment we walked in. The place itself was very impressive and exceptionally clean, which immediately made us feel comfortable and welcome. Lian took our orders and made sure we were well taken care of. Later, Michael, the manager, came by to check that everything was okay. He made sure we were comfortable and asked if we had any questions about the menu. It was wonderful to see such personal attention and genuine care for their guests. The food was absolutely delicious, and the customer service was excellent from beginning to end. The combination of the impressive and spotless restaurant, warm hospitality, attentive service, and delicious food made our experience truly memorable. Being from Orange County, my expectations for Dim Sum are high. I typically go to Jasmine or Emerald whenever I'm wanting Dim Sum, but decided to give this place a try after seeing it on Yelp and I am glad I did! Met the owner and he was confident that his food was better than the other places mentioned AND much easier to find parking as the lot is huge. They push the carts around as traditional dim sum should be, the food comes out hot, and my party and I were happy. If you don't see the item you want on the cart, you can always make a request and they'll notify the kitchen to have it prepared. The restaurant was spacious and the atmosphere was chill. The food was very good and well priced. I think I found my go to spot in the San Diego area! My friends and I went on a day trip to San Diego. Being from San Gabriel where there are an abundant of dim sum restaurants, Diamond Place is truly a diamond in a rough. The dim sum dishes were absolutely delicious and well presented. Usually, I feel like there's a balance between how good the service is vs the taste of the food. Diamond Place definitely has both. Dim Sum doesn't taste mushy from being over steamed. The staff were very attentive - making sure we had the sauces we needed, making sure our tea pots weren't empty and making sure we had a great experience. I was truly amazed. The service was terrible. There were a couple of larger groups of about 8 people, and they seemed to monopolize all the service. I've never heard of this Chinese restaurant until my visiting relatives from Boston came down and recommended this place for dim sum and roast duck. My other relatives who also live in San Diego like me didn't know about here either as it's located very far southeast. We were all very excited to give this place a try! It's located in the same lot as Northgate Gonzalez Market a little east of City Heights (not sure what this area is called...) on 54th St. There is a huge parking lot with ample stalls that won't ever be an issue. The restaurant is HUGE. It's a Chinese and dim sum restaurant that provides catering and banquets for big parties. The dim sum selection wasn't that big, but the restaurant provided quality food. My relatives ordered a bunch of dim sum including pork shumai, chicken feet, shrimp & beef rice rolls, spare ribs, etc. They also ordered some vegetables and roast duck from their Chinese food menu. According to my visiting relatives, this was one of the few good restaurants that had really good dim sum and especially a really good roast duck. They didn't have any good ones back in Boston and came to this restaurant quite often to order their duck. Coming from Hawaii, I grew up with delicious roast duck and wanted to compare the ones here to there. And I got to say, it was pretty good! It was crispier and had really good comparable flavor, something I really missed when I left Hawaii. The only con about the roast duck was the lack of meat. But still great texture and flavor! I came another time with my boyfriend, brother, and his fiancée. We ordered only from the dim sum menu unlike the previous time I came with my relatives. Again, the dim sum was delicious! Great quality and plump items. Yum! The only two small items were honestly the egg tart and the beef rice roll which were both meh in my opinion. The beef rice roll barely had any beef which looked sad. Comparing this visit's beef rice rolls to my previous visit, the quality of it went down in my opinion. But my brother's fiancée liked it. The only downside was the prices of the dim sum which I feel is normal in today's economy and in San Diego. The prices range from $6.69 to $10.99 depending on the type of item you choose. Majority of the items we got were either $8.29 or $9.39 each. But thankfully, the quality and how big each individual item was, such as a single shumai, were great. That made the food worth the price! Our server in our most recent visit was soooo funny. He was chatty and very easy to talk to. Loved making jokes and honestly brought the energy. His coworker also did the same with another table too. Great way to pass time on a slow weekday. A favorite within my family. I definitely will be back to take my mom to try this spot as there's not many places in San Diego with "good" dim sum quality and quantity. read more

My family and I come here from time to time for dimsum even though it's a further drive for us. Food: it feels like there is more variety than Golden Island, the other place we frequent. The dimsum consistently comes out hotter too. We came today and had a bit of a sour experience. My MIL thought that the dishes were miscounted on our stamp sheet, and somehow the cart ladies and the manager(?) got involved. Everyone started counting dishes for a heated 5-10 mins. My MIL insisted the # of dishes were incorrect and the ladies kept counting out loud (and it got louder) but I feel like everyone kept on counting different numbers. Haha, it was kinda awkward and silly. One of the cart ladies seemed frustrated, briefly walked away and then came back and started using a random pair of chopsticks on the table to bang against each dish to count it aloud. Thought that was very classless no matter who was in the wrong. Just bad hygiene and rude. Ultimately, not sure who counted wrong or if my MIL made a mistake. Also, the cart lady avoided us on purpose after the altercation. She eventually came back later with her cart and I very specifically asked her for egg custard bun. She gave us the running salty egg yolk one..when I told her this she exploded at us. Very rude. She was already on the defense without us even saying much. The manager tried her best to deescalate everything so I could appreciate that. Another random thing that I caught was a male manager was refilling our pot of tea and he didn't even announce himself and hurriedly brought the super hot pot of tea between two people that were sitting closer to each other than the slot next to them between another pair on our table...I just thought that was so thoughtless and inconsiderate. My experience all other times have been good, so I'll chalk this down to the stress of the July 4th weekend breaking people down inside & projecting it on customers lol read more

Diamond Palace is the kind of place that makes this East Coast kid stop and say hold on a second these people out here are doin' somethin' right. Walk in the dining room.... gigantic!
