I considered greatly before doing a review. I came in yesterday with my family for a full body massage. It was one in the large room with everyone. Immediately Michael the guy who was giving my massage, jumped right in without introducing himself. He kept yawning, sighing, and coughing, but I didn't think much of it. About halfway in I noticed his massages were not great. When the door would open he would massage better for a minute and then stop. When he made it to my shoulders he was sitting near my head. The massage started decent but he slowly stopped moving. I wondered if he thought I was sleeping so he didn't massage... I listened to his breathing a realized he was snoring. He had laid his head down near mine and was snoring next to my head. I couldn't believe it... he startled himself awake and kept massaging but a couple minutes later it happened again.... Now in order to stop the massage, I would have had to stand up in a room of 20 people, ask him to stop, and cause a ton of attention to myself. Not to mention he still had his hands on me, my neck none the less.... And I was humiliated. I choose to sit there and just wait... I was uncomfortable, and weirded out. I felt violated as I had a strange man sleeping while touching me. It did happen at least once more, but once I flipped I could see better and I didn't dare shut my eyes. When we finished I couldn't get out fast enough. I told the front counter, while I was shaking I was so upset. They even wanted me to pay for the service despite me being completely freaked out. I will not only never be returning here, but I don't know if I will ever allow another massage.... You don't know how terrifying it is to have a grown man with his hands on you while he is sleeping. Definitely the top spot for massages in terms of foot spas. Located inside of a small strip mall is Shanghai foot spa although, from the outside it only says foot spa with blacked out windows. Places that look like this usually don't get my business (for obvious reasons) but this place had great reviews and is legit. On to the massages! You can choose from combo or foot only which will take place fully clothed in the main room shared with other people. Massages come in 30,60, 90 minute intervals depending on how long you would like. If you'd prefer a full oil massage they have that as well in a private room. I'm here fairly often and have done both combo and oil massages. All the therapists are great and so are the prices. While walk ins are accepted I'd recommend calling ahead because this place is always busy. You can specify if you would prefer a man or a woman if you would like. Paying in cash waves the taxes on your massage and lastly just because the massage is cheap doesn't mean to leave less of a tip. After 10 minutes, I asked him to only do, a 30 minute massage. When I went to pay the owner, then admitted that Tony was no longer there. This is my second time at Shanghai Foot Spa. The first experience was great so I expected the same this time. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. At check-in, I asked for a foot massage, which I thought meant 30-60 minutes of foot massage. However, I ended up getting a back, extremities and foot massage so I'm not sure how that happened. I'm not complaining. Anyway, I had to tell the guy (Jason) 15x not to squeeze so hard but he just kept pressing that I ended up with a huge painful bruise on my foot which I noticed when I got home. I called them to report it, but the receptionist couldn't understand what I was saying and ended up booking me for another reservation thinking that's what I was calling for. Family foot massage time! After a day playing their little hearts (and feet) out at a lacrosse tournament, my boys deserved a foot massage. Shanghai was able to take four of us in 15 minutes. When it comes to decor and chairs, Shanghai is pretty much average. I have been to nicer places and I have been to dumpier places. Massage started with the usual shoulder massage with my feet soaking. I am usually not thrilled with this part. Not my cup of tea to sit on a little stool and get massages while holding a pillow. I would much rather have the whole time spent on my feet. The foot massage was very good. The massage was good enough and the room was comfortable. My masseuse suggested to spend more time on my back instead of my feet (due to a knot in my back) and I agreed. I couldn't understand her accent well but thought I understood and agreed. At the desk, the priced increased by $25 dollars (from the quoted amount), because the type of massage changed. The lady stood there and said 'I told you that' - but I had no idea that she told me it was more expensive. Regardless, I paid and gave them roughly an 18% tip (this was the cash I had based on the previous price I came in expecting to pay). The young man then asked me for more tip and told me that 20% was expected. When I said I didn't know the tip was 'expected' he said it's typical and both he and the masseuse stood there, just staring and expecting me to pay. I wanted to remind him that we are in the United States and that tips are based on merit (and not expectation) but just gave up. He was aggressive and wouldn't back down. I will not return. I lived in Asia so I have a lot of experience with therapeutic Asian massage-particularly reflexology, Thai massage, Tui Na, etc. In the USA you can get amazing authentic Asian massage, sometimes you just get intuitive therapists, but sometimes you just don't. I was worried with some of the negative reviews, but this place was great. Although I believe they have a private room available, most of the work is done in a large, clean space with about a dozen well-spaced stations. The long ottomans that we were lying on were clean and comfortable. The mood lighting and music help set the tone, but don't expect complete silence since you're in a room with other people who are entering and leaving at different times. The massage is identical to many we've had in various Chinatowns in the U.S. The "combo massage" is a set routine with approximately 30 minutes of body work and 30 minutes on your feet. Strength can vary between personnel, but they will definitely accommodate you if you ask for a harder or gentler massage. We were asked once if we wanted an up-sell to a 60-minute whole body massage, but were not pressured to do so. The massage went the full 60 minutes. While English isn't the native language here, we never felt uncomfortable with the staff and were able to communicate without problems. After the massage, small ID cards were handed to us by the staff who worked on us. We then went to the front desk to checkout. We were never asked or pressured for a gratuity, but if you want to leave something, you can provide cash with the ID cards back to the front desk so they can get it to the right staff member. Overall, a great experience and I would definitely go back. We found this place by Groupon, but their standard pricing looks identical to Groupon prices, so you might as well buy directly and join the rewards program (every 10 massages earns you a free one). read more

I asked at least 5 times for the gentleman to massage deeper to no avail. I was SO disappointed. My daughter and I were the last customers of the day, unbeknownst to me at the time. All of the therapists were getting off duty at the same time and they walked in and out of the lobby repeatedly being so noisy that it was ridiculous. It is a spa! I always take my 20yr old daughter as well to enjoy a massage. We are total regulars. I had 3 gift cards that my wife purchased. She gets me gift cards all the time here. This time all 3 were for the 60 min combo. When she bought them they were $55, now the price is $60. It says on the gift card specifically. Redeem for 60 min combo massage. OK, No big deal, they made me pay $15 extra. $5 for each one. I never argued or said a word even though they should honor what I paid for. My daughter had a 1 hr combo for her $60 and I had a 2hr Combo for my 2-$60 cards. She finished and went back home. I gave her $12 to tip the person which was 20%. I had my massage. I was 2 hrs long, no complaints, it was good, When finished I got up and ready and reached into my pocket and gave her a $25 tip...20%. She literally stood there with it in her hand and flipped it around a few times while looking back and forth at me. She looked it like I handed her a pile of dog crap. She walked my up front where before she opened the door to the lobby she asked my for $40. I told her $25 is 20% she said nothing, brought me up to the front desk and threw the money on the front desk to the guy at the register. She spoke to him in their language and he looking at me and said. Is all you going to give her is $25?" I said yes that's 20%. He said, "you don't have anymore money?" I always have a good experience every time I am there. They are always on time and do their best to accommodate you. Yes, it's a big open room and you get the occasional person snoring so if you want complete privacy, you can pay more than double what they charge and get a private room some where else. Able to get an appointment for the very next day, they even accommodated me when my lazy butt rescheduled last minute for 30 minutes later. Small strip plaza off 441 near southern, their sign says foot spa. Decent interior, but very dark inner room where you must walk past lots of foot massage cots. Awkward. Very attentive, despite even little English, can communicate via yes/no /harder/softer and pointing. He asked "ok?" often, and found tiny areas on my body that hurt, that I could not have pointed out myself. Totally worth it. Really got in there and worked hard. Not a spa/bougie place, no chatting etc, no fragranced oils, or fancy decor, but they do hot stones complimentary (although just a few min) and overall a clean, respectful place. I went on a Sunday so may have been slower than usual. One qualm- front desk has coupons pasted for $60/60min massage but she said "no thats changed," and charged reg price. Went with my husband to get foot massage on July 24, 2024. Very disappointed in the massage. We had a 7 pm appointment. When we got there at 6:55 we were told that they were running 10 minutes late and to have a seat in their waiting area. We elected to sit in our car because the waiting area smelled funny and stuffy. We finally got in at 7:15. They sat us down on a bench, put our foot in a bucket of warm water, put a towel on our shoulders and proceeded to massage our shoulders. It wasn't great because we were swaying while they were massaging. After about 10 minutes they took our foot out of the water, told us to lie down and dried our feet. They put some sort of lotion on our feet and proceeded to massage. The lady that was massaging my feet wasn't great. Then I noticed that she would start rubbing and it would taper off (like driving and then almost coming to a full stop). I moved the towel from my face after it happened several times to look at her and realized she was falling asleep. When the guy who was working on my husband realized what was happening he spoke to her in their language and she was a little better after. My massage was ruined. She wasn't a good massager. I gave her 10 percent tip and she had the nerve to follow me to the front asking for 30 percent tip. My husband ended giving her 20 percent tip and when I told the receptionist that she was falling asleep while massaging me. She said she was enjoying giving me my massage. I wonder if these people have any training in giving massages. Such a rip off. These places need to be investigated. I can't spend my hard earned money getting mediocre massages. I've been to this place three times only because I received gift certificates for a $60 foot massage from family and friends. Every time I've one I've always had a mediocre experience down right to just plain awful. it's not the staff that's the problem it's the environment that ruins this whole massage experience there's no private rooms. The walls are paper thin on my most recent visit. Somebody was snoring and somebody brought their phone inside of the parlor and it was really annoying. I highly recommend it to just spend more money at a place that you can get some privacy than this place but if you're really in need of a cheap massage parlor and you don't care about the fact that it's not private at all I would say, go for it, but I've never going to return to this place even if I get another gift certificate. read more
