I decided to get a massage at this place for the first time after moving to my condo which is next door to this Spa place. The staff were friendly and the place was clean however the massage did not work for me. I took the 75 minutes deep tissue massage and more hand of that time the massage was done while I under two sheets and I can barely feel any pressure. In short while I am sure the lady did her best this massage did not work for me. The pressure was not even anything close to deep tissue massage. So while everyone was nice , unfortunately I will just drive to my next massage place next time where I can gear my back cracking for the pressure. This is what deep tissue massage should be like. Just leaving my first visit here and I have to highly recommend it. I had a 30 minute foot massage and a 40 minute body massage and it was the best I have ever had. My legs were super tight when I went in, and he knew that I needed extra care there and took time to work on them. Pressure was great throughout. It felt very luxurious. We would always drive by Shangri-La and kept saying how we would give it a try. We finally called to make an appointment and they could take us on the same day. When we arrived, they were welcoming and very nice. The place was very clean and the decor made it felt calming and relaxing. We did the 30-minute foot reflexology with the 60-minute full-body massage. We started with the foot reflexology. I love that they do the head massage while our feet were soaking. The foot reflexology was really good and I had some tension in my legs and they were able to get some of the knots out of my calves. After the foot reflexology, we moved to a separate room for the 60-minute full-body massage. They were so good, they found knots I didn't know I had, and they could get out a couple of the stubborn knots I had. Even though some of the knots were really painful during the massage, it felt really good afterward. I felt much more relaxed and limber. I highly recommend coming here. This is a great affordable massage place if what you care about primarily is the massage, and not having a spa ambiance. Got a 90 minute massage. It was a skillful and effective where I felt like it was done with intent and worked out many knots (not like some of the massages that I've had that seem primarily for relaxation (?) and I can't help but fall asleep). I've known Yan for years from her earlier employment in a Bellevue massage spa. She always gives me a strong, deep-tissue massage which is what i always look for. Very capable. and with a great sense of humor. This is my regular place now. Highly recommended. The place is also completely renovated and spotless. There's a few spots for free parking outside, which is getting unusual now in Kirkland. Walking distance from Kirkland library which was handy. read more

This place is under new ownership since the last time I was there. I hate giving a small, new businesses a bad rating, but I really did not have a good experience with my massage or my foot reflexology, and I feel the need to warn people. For calibration: I like a good, deep tissue massage, so I am OK with some pain during a massage. However, this was full on intense and painful. There was a language barrier, so even though I tried to explain it was too rough, I kept getting hurt. And when I said "ouch," I don't think she understood what it meant. And she could not read my body language when I was tensing up and wincing or jerking my knee away. It was a grueling 60 minutes, and I was so relieved when it was over. Also, the new foot reflexology chairs are not chairs at all. You lie down on a bench with your knees bent at a 90 degree angle and your feet dangling over the edge. Try lying in this position at home for ten minutes to see if you can do it for 30. My back was aching after 30 minutes. On the other hand, The owners were nice. The place was clean. They were doing some remodeling to increase privacy when getting a food massage, and it looked good. But these "massage therapists" need to go to school and get certified or someone can get hurt. I requested a 90 min massage. The massage itself was good, but much of the massage I was exposed and cold. The biggest concern was when i paid up, I was "haggled" over the tip amount. Never in my life have I ever experienced that. The massage itself was quoted at $100. When I offered twenty dollars tip - 20 percent, she *required* $30. Upon checking the bank statement the total was $135. I won't be back nor can I recommend. ): It turned a relaxing experience into a very awkward one where I felt taken. read more

About a year ago I discovered the Shangri-La Spa in Kirkland. I have been going to Yan-Yan for massages ever since. I have seen a number of massage practitioners over the years and Yan-Yan is by far the best. She works the whole body from head to toe with deep tissue massage. She also varies the area of focus depending upon which area of my body is the most problematic at the time. She has never failed to solve the problem and make me feel better! The lobby and the massage rooms are modern, clean, and relaxing. There is parking available at the business location which is across the road from the Kirkland library. PHENOMENAL!!!! I've received many massages but Yan is hands down the best masseuse I've ever had. Usually a masseuse will offer "full body" but Yan truly will go from head to toe using her knowledge of pressure points and reflexology that will have you walking out feeling brand new. I suffer from herniated, ruptured, and slipped disks in my c and L spine- I walked out feeling 99% pain free. Highly recommend! read more

worst experience. didn't even get a massage. we booked the day prior for a 4pm appointment today and when we arrived there had been a walk in so they couldn't provide the service. they asked no questions when we booked but apparently needed a female therapist for me (not that I cared who it was), and they called their boss to drive back, expecting I be grateful that she make the drive back.
