I spent thousands at AMS, never tried to talk them down on a quote and always paid in full on the day of completion so they could have parking for their next customer. Recently I stopped in to get a quote for turbo replacement for my Taurus SHO, the associate sitting next to the owner said "that is a big 11 hour job" the owner chimed in and said "Do you think fixing that car is a smart thing to do? Confused because I thought I had stopped in an auto repair business I paused, looked at the sign that said 'Auto Repair' and lamented that the car may be old but it only has 70,000 miles on it, the engine is good and the repair is much less than replacing the car. In hindsight I should not have to be explaining any of this I should just be told whether or not I can get a quote then Mike (an owner partner) quipped "How do you know the engine is good?" Now I am feeling insulted, and wondering why we are we even having this conversation ? I told Mike the turbo is probably a bad seal, is not leaking oil into the cylinders, the plugs were not fouled or oily, the engine hadn't hydro locked and it starts with no engine noise and then I asked Mike "Why are you trying to talk me out of fixing my car?" Mike then went right back into ridiculing my decision to fix this car by saying "We knew that was a bad engine in 2004 when we opened this shop!" Well that tells me a lot about Mike because in 2004 there was no Taurus SHO and the Taurus that did exist had either a 3.0-liter V6 or a Duratec" V6 but mine has a 3.5-liter EcoBoost, either way I stopped in for a quote and not Mikes or anyone's blessing on fixing this car nor did I need a dose of ridicule for wanting to fix it. Ultimately AMS said they don't want anything to do with this job, I am okay with that, it's their prerogative it's a big job and a small shop but they could have declined with out the judgement, ridicule and unsolicited opinions about me and my car. I later posted a request for quotes on this job and got 9 replies from other garages all with prices within 5% of each other and not once did any of these other repair garages refuse the job or throw grief at me for my wanting to have this car fixed.
