Private classes are a whole lot better. My son gains more confidence in his ability to remember the moves more and gets to do boxing in the end. His favorite is the boxing part. Hahaha. This place is the best. I'm an adult beginner and I appreciate that Sifu meets you where you're at and gives a lot of personalized attention even in group classes. He pushes you. The sessions are a great work out. I'm the most flexible I've ever been after coming for almost 9 months, twice a week. I feel strong! We get to learn different forms and eventually weapons. Sifu is a wonderful teacher, he breaks steps down very simply and clearly despite me not knowing how to speak much Chinese. He never overwhelms you, he teaches just enough and knows what you can handle. Classmates are very friendly and supportive. Adult classes start with warm ups, then stretches, then some kicking exercises. Then we move onto learning/practicing forms. Each student gets 2-3 times to train their form individually with Sifu. During downtimes he tells you to practice. It's also a good time to catch your breath- it's a tough workout! On Saturday morning class at 9am it's a smaller class size with younger age range and we get to do kickboxing, and now learning hand stands and cart wheels too. Never thought I could do either in my life until now! Very happy about learning king fu. Love this place! read more

The Shīfú here is a legit Shaolin monk. He's a fantastic teacher, really sweet and great with kids. The studio is always clean and my son is really pushed by Shīfú to do his best. He acts like he's all strict and tough (and maybe he is with the older students; I wouldn't know because I'm only around for the younger children) but after he yells at the kids or gives them a light whacking with his stick, he hides a smile or tries not to laugh at them. There is a lot of love in what he does. So why the four stars? Well, it's because it's just him teaching the classes. He's clearly a wonderful and popular instructor as the classes are always full but due to the large number of students, the one-hour class that we pay for is not even close to 60 minutes of instruction. It feels more like 30 minutes at best, even though I've never timed it. There is a lot of sitting around against the wall as he takes turns teaches different students at different belt levels. There is a one-time $40 registration fee, then another $65 for uniform (shirt, pants and shoes). Unless it's over $2600, there is no payment plan. It's just one payment for anywhere from 3 months to 2 years. See photo for prices. We enrolled my son for about a year. A very no fuss, chill experience. There's a registration fee, required uniform (shirt, pants, shoes), and you pre-pay for classes. They are located in a small plaza with decent parking, next to dumpling house and Lao Xi noodle house, good places to eat that we frequently went to. Shifu was kind, yet firm with the kiddos. They definitely did thorough warm ups. There's a restroom, masks if you forget, and hand sanitizer. Would recommend, but we live far. read more

My 6 year old daughter attends classes in their Arcadia location and loves it. Shi Fu takes them through a vigorous workout and warm up then works with each student on their routine and form. He isn't extremely strict with the kids, perhaps it's the age group, but does try to encourage them to get their form right and hold positions longer than what they might want. It has been helpful for my daughter's strength, endurance, flexibility and coordination. He goes between Chinese and English but his accent is pretty heavy so she's getting bonus Mandarin exposure! read more

My 5yo son loves it here. The teacher/shifu is patient, caring, and gives a lot of one-on-one attention. This place is a true gem. My son went from being fearful in the first 3-4 classes to absolutely looking forward to his classes 2-3x/wk. He feels huge pride and confidence in the growth of his skill and stamina. The Shifu (master/owner) is genuinely devoted to promoting Kung Fu and the spirit of Shao Lin. It is so rare these days for a teacher to really teach for a cause and not for the money. My daughter attends every Saturday and Sunday for two consecutive classes each day. The class is physically demanding for a beginner but with practice you can quickly get the hang of it. My daughter loves the class so much that she insist on attending two sessions everytime she goes, and she made lots of good friends. I can tell that she feel very comfortable and confident with herself and is growing more and more fit as the class progresses. I can't say enough good things about this place! Both my son and I have been attending the kung fu classes here for several years. Our master Yan Hui Shi is one of the very few shaolin monks that we can find here. He is very talented, kind and compassionate to all the students. Not only does he teach the traditional forms & weapons but also tai chi, meditation, qigong and self-defense. There are a wide range of students of different age group and experience and our master will adapt his instruction based on each student's needs. the Shi-fu (instructors) instill confidence and discipline with a traditional shao-lin feel while still respecting a child's boundaries. We discovered this gem of a studio in spring of 2013. Our son really loves the Master (Shi Fu). He is a perfect mentor for a 7 year old. The physical and mental aspects of Shao Lin Kung Fu are great for children. We wish we had him start at this studio sooner! read more
