Because of previous bad experiences I had not gone to the dentist for a long time. because I could not wait no longer I tried Dr. Shapiro and was pleasantly surprised he was not judgmental and did and does everything possible to make the experience tolerable and pain-free every time. I actually needed a crown and after his gentle care I did not need any pain medication post procedure. I now bring all of my children there we are so happy to have met him. Unfortunately they are no longer actually a family practice, and it shows. After going there for years and having zero issues or fillings needed, suddenly they wanted to do four fillings even though I had no pain (and the hygienist thought I didn't really need them). I've been going to Shapiro Family Dental since 2009. I couldn't remember how long so one of the dental assistants looked it up. All the staff are great. Christine is an awesome dental hygienist who is caring and funny. We chat in between the times she is working. I have also had countless procedures done by Dr Neil. He has extracted teeth, filled cavities, put a dental implant in and kept me smiling while he's doing it. If it hurts, he stops and makes sure you are comfortable. Great service. We called on a weekend with a dental emergency. The dentist called me back on a Sunday (though they are closed sundays). I would have given Shapiro Dentistry 5 stars a year ago. Unfortunately since the move to the strip mall, the service and personable nature of the office completely changed. All of the things that made this dental practice great was lost in the move. After moving away 8 years ago, I used to travel back to Wethersfield twice a year for cleanings. Well since my Awesome Dentist decided to retire....He was in his late 80's mind you. I had to find a new one. I decided to come to Shapiro Family Dentistry because my hubby goes here and thought well time to keep it in the family. Dr. Shapiro is so sweet he reminds me of my last dentist great guy!! His son Neil is a ball keeps you on your toes and he's around my age so when his Dad retires I'll still have dentist...lol This office is located in Old Wethersfield so after your teeth are cleaned if you want to be bad you can drive down the street to The Main Street Creamery for an Ice Cream.....And no I haven't done this....lol I have had a great experience the two times I have been here....mind you I have never had a cavity, braces or any major dental work. So, I mainly come for cleanings. They do a great job and my teeth never ache afterwards like they did with a prior hygienist at my old dentist's office. At 3:30 am, I succumbed to tooth pain from a badly broken tooth I've neglected for too long by emailing Shapiro Family Dentistry. I had used Shapiro Dentistry before for a routine cleaning and thought they were "good." I had only gotten a cleaning so it's tough to be a critic when getting simple, routine dental upkeep. Here's the game changer: My tooth was broken as mentioned in my aforementioned paragraph. I was confident there was no chance of saving the tooth. So Dr. Neil Shapiro responded to my email by calling me at 7 am to offer me a 10 am (same day) appointment to get the necessary procedure (from start to finish) done to eliminate the pain. Neil Shapiro, by far, is the best doctor I've ever seen. Period. People talk about bedside manner? Well, I technically wasn't in a bed, but Dr. Shapiro demonstrated every attribute of a great doctor by confidently letting me know he WILL solve my issue and I'll leave his office pain FREE. And he did. And I did. Dr. Shapiro orated to me each procedural step he was performing throughout the extraction and he let me know, beforehand, if I was going to feel a new, different, or perhaps uncomfortable sensation. His talents are exemplary and he is totally vested in the patient well-being factor. To summarize in a simply put way, he's the best. He represents the "complete package." Period. Let me add that his staff are also fantastic people, and Dr. Shapiro is very respectful to those who work for him. I'm not an MD but I'm a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering and Theoretical Physics. To earn the salutation of being called a doctor comes with it an enormous amount of responsibility. I spent an hour in his office, getting a fractured and badly damaged tooth removed and it was pleasant... Think about that for a second... I recommend Shapiro Family Dentistry, LLC to anyone in need of any type of dental care. I can speak volumes about the practice but you'll truly understand the gravity of my review once you've had a chance to be under the routine or surgical care of Neil Shapiro. They care about your comfort just as much as they care about the quality of their work and trust me, they have set the benchmark for standards of care. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! I've been going to SFD for over a year now and I love it. Dr. Neil and his staff are truly fantastic. They go out of their way to accommodate schedules and bend over backwards to ensure their patients comfort. On two occasions when I've had a dental emergency, I was always seen the very next day. Their office is modern, with the latest equipment and even a TV in each room to watch during your cleaning/procedure....if you're not already chatting with the incredibly friendly hygienists. I met the originator of the practice today, Dr. Bernard Shapiro. What a truly kind-hearted, caring, sweet man. I am very pleased with my recent visit to Dr Shapiro's office... On Friday I was experiencing some very intense pain. I was searching for a Dentist within my network who could take me that day. After doing some researsch on Yelp I found his practice. Turns out that I needed a root canal for a tooth which had a very bad cavity / bone infection. They were able to get me in the chair rather fast although I was running a bit behind schedule. They did not hold that against me. The receptionist, hygenists and doctors were all very polite, hospitable and possessed a good sense of humor =p The doctors (Shapiro and Lawn) were willing to work within my financial perameters. Alhough the experience was a bit long and painful at times. The staff were very attentive and caring and were even willing to stay a bit late in order to complete the procedure and send me home pain free. They delivered on their promise and I will be going in for a follow up next week. Rarely do I ever give a perfect rating or believe that a place is worthy of a 5 star grade but theres always an exception to the rule. I went looking for a new dentist and based on the reviews, I made an appointment for a cleaning. I checked out the website and made an appointment request. I recovered an auto reply email from the office and then the next morning, I received an email from Dr. Neil Shapiro offering their services. I called an made an appointment with no hassle. I was told I could pre-fill the office forms and did so. The only con was there is no parking lot and with the snow it was prettying rowed outside but I was able to find a spot. The office staff was very courteous. There was a lot of banter which Mande me feel comfortable since the staff was so jovial. I was called in immediately and right on time. The staff was wonderful. I went to my dentist yesterday, and found out with an X-ray, that I needed a root canal STAT to save my tooth. I was terrified, mainly because I HATE going to the dentist... BUT MY DENTIST IS INCREDIBLE! He made me an immediate priority and fixed me right there! I have been a patient of Dr. Neil Shapiro for close to ten years. He is by far the best dentist I have ever had. He is caring and compassionate of all my dental problems and concerns (which are extensive due to my mega sweet tooth and huge love of sugar! ) I went to college about 15 mins away from his office and even though I have relocated to Florida I remain loyal to him and travel back to CT for all my dental work still. His work and perfectionism is unmatched and I would never trust any other dentist the way I do with Dr. Neil. He was super reassuring when I needed a biopsy on my gums (thankfully non cancerous!) over the last 10 years he has saved my teeth from extractions and he has performed countless procedures including 15 crowns and 2 root canals! Unbelievable experience! Dr. Neil Shapiro is fantastic!! I had a bad experience at another dentist the day before. I called the office, and he squeezed me in same day. Actually he picked up the front desk phone himself because it was snowing and he didn't want his staff to rush into work. Yes, he's that great of a guy! He did a full examination and determined I was perfectly fine and didn't even need dental work. I was recommended to Shapiro Family Dentistry about fifteen years ago when I resided in the Hartford area. The work that Dr. Neil Shapiro did then, including implants, is still in excellent condition. Due to my rather complex and continuing dental needs, I recently contacted him to see if he would consider taking me again as a patient. As always, I was greeted warmly and welcomed to come in for an evaluation. Happily, I have returned to him as a patient. Honestly I couldn't have asked for a better dentist experience. I haven't gone to one in well over 15 years because of fear and well lack of money/ insurance. I still don't have insurance but Dr. Shapiros group did everything they could to help me pay and afford this surgery I needed terribly. I'm practically at tears once they told me how much I would have to pay for what I needed! I finally feel safe and comfortable going to the dentist and i will be a client for as long as I can be!
