I had been wanting to go on a deep sea fishing trip for years and finally decided to. My son was visiting from NC and we took the trip together. Captain John was informative and friendly. He let me know that when I was booking the trip that there were less expensive options out there but none as good. As a business owner myself I appreciate someone having pride in there business. Well I don't know if there are better trips out there or not but they would have to be damned good to even get close. After getting all of the paper work done for all of the fishers, only 4 go on any trip so that doesn't take to long, we all headed out to the boat launch and he put the boat in the water. You could tell he has done this thousands of times. In fact the more time you spent with him the more you could tell that he had a method for everything he did that all came together to make for a fun and safe expierince for his customers. We opted for the crab as well as the fishing so he dropped the crab pots on the way out. We picked them up on the way back in just brimming with crab. He told us that he wanted to try a new location that day and if that didn't work out that we would go to one of his regular spots. He seemed truly excited to let us try these new locations because who knows how big or diverse the fish might be there. Well on the third new spot we hit it big. It was almost annoying how fast the fish hit once your lure was down. We filled our limits in what seemed like only a few minutes but was probably a bit longer. I chartered a fishing trip for two with Sharky's Charter Fishing; John came highly recommended. I was told, if anyone would put you on fish it would be John. This was the best fishing charter I have ever been on. John was very well prepared and went right to the fish, so we started to catch fish immediately. John also was very attentative, we fished deep waters and when getting a bite it was not so obvious, but John let us know what to do and when to do it, so we didn't miss a fish. In any case, we caught our Halibut (38 and 44 inches) and so much more; black cod, yellow tail and red snapper, and then of course the crab. We had so much fun but then came the work; although, we had the fish filleted, it took several hours to vacuum pack, cook and clean the crab, it was awesome. I certainly would recommend Sharky's Charter Fishing for anyone that is considering a fishing charter but is skeptical of cost and the probability of catching fish; if they are out there; John will get you there and put you on top of them. I have been fishing on boats with many more fishermen. I was against paying the higher price to fish with Sharky's. Boy, was I wrong!! The boat was a little smaller than I was used to, but it was great. The boat had all the latest electronics and a big bunch of horse power. We had five people on the boat including the captain (Mitch), we were very comfortable. The fishing spot was 33 miles away and took little time to arrive. I hooked a 55# Halibut in the first minute of fishing. I learned that there existed electric fishing reels. I love them, never fish deep without them again! Everyone limited out on Halibut. I thought we were done. Capt. Mitch took us to another place and we all limited on Sea Bass. There is a lot of luck in fishing, but with the right equipment and a captain that knows all the right places, luck has less effect. I know of no other boats that caught much at all. Ninety percent of our success is Capt. Mitch. I'll never fish on a cattle boat again!!!! read more

Fished one of the south coast streams with Captain John, owner of Sharky's Charters yesterday and had an off the charts Steelhead trip. I personally hooked 7 Steelhead and landed 5. Kept 3 chrome bright fish to take home and I know John hooked at least as many as I did. His knowledge of the south coast streams, fishing techniques and top notch gear made the day a bucket list trip for me. John taught me some new, very effective, ways to catch steelhead. I am 62 so yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks. His patience and good humor helped make this one of the best fishing days I have ever experienced. And I have been fishing most of my life. I highly recommend Captain John and Sharky's Charters to anyone looking for a quality fishing experience. I look forward to fishing with John again in the near future. I have to be honest, I was NOT EXCITED to go out fishing for Mother's Day. My husband had this great idea to take me and our 4 boys out for a day of fishing with Sharkys Charters , Captain John. I was absolutely terrified but I went and I am SO GLAD I DID! The boys had an amazing time too! Captain John made us all feel so comfortable and SAFE! I was able to not only relax but also CATCH SOME FISH! The weather was perfect and we could not have had a better day! I was looking for a fun fishing day but more of a "catching" event. Sharky said he was all about catching and I was in. My Dad and I had not fished on the sea that much and this was such a fantastic experience with high tech reels, fish finder, etc it was a great catching day. I caught my limit in 1/2 day and Dad was just 2 fish short. We took home about 60 LBS of fish thanks to Captain Johns advice and guidance. We were on vacation in OBX and booked a fishing charter for 4 of us. We rode aboard the Instigator. The captain knew exactly were to go to find the fish. The first mate was very patient with us as we reeled in fish after fish! We reeled in over 30 fish that day! What an experience! Thanks again for everything! Very knowledgeable person! John is an ex marine biologist, we went out and almost always cought some good sized fish! Be prepared to book ahead! John is the best charter out of Charleston in my opinion. You get what you pay for! Had a blast Tuna fishing and caught 48. Couldn't say enough great things about this charter and if you have any requests I'm sure John will listen! He let us switch from hand lines to rod and reel and we pulled in over half that way. read more
