First off let's discuss the visitation policy. You have to make an appointment 24 hours in advance to see your loved one. You can't bring any bags or purses in. Am I visiting a hospital or a prison? They said it's Covid protocols but all Covid restriction have lifted in every health care facilities and as far as I know my purse doesn't cough. They want 24 hours notice so they can make sure your family member looks like they are taken care of. Let me say that there was some staff members that were wonderful, patient and kind. Respiratory therapy, PT and OT were great. I admit my father is not the easiest patient but when you have no ability to communicate with people behavior is the only way you have to get the point across. He is vent dependent and unable to speak. Speech therapy was non existent. She gave him a thick binder he had to flip through to get to what he wanted to say and gave him a card with the alphabet on it. These would be fine if they had bothered to take into account he is vision impaired and couldn't read any of it. One nurse was so rough cleaning him that he started to refuse to get washed. Because of his disease he is unable to control his head movement. When they turned him to wash him they hit his head on the side rail of the bed 3 different times and also pushed his trach into the side rail when turning him. They took no account of the pain he was in. I had to fight to get him so much as oxycodone. My dad even told us that one night a staff member told him she would love to watch him burn. When we brought this to their attention instead of investigating the complaint the case manager said they were sending him to a facility in Boston with less than 24 hours notice. We had no opportunity to tour the facility. It's 55 miles away from where he lives which forces my 70 year old stepmother to drive into Boston daily. They told us if we appealed we would have to pay out of pocket for him to stay there. Such a nice thing to do, to isolate a dying man from his family. They took a family nightmare and amplified it by 1000. One day it will be them in the bed and I hope karma gives them exactly what they deserve. People aren't dollar signs. They likely will attempt to challenge this review or have some comment. What they did to my father and our family was criminal. There is no heart or compassion in this place. 10 out of 10 do not recommend. Addendum: When we got to the new facility and they did his skin check vibra never even put a dressing on his wound. Instead they just stuffed some gauze between butt cheeks so he laid on an ambulance stretcher for almost 2 hours with no protection. And within hours spiked a temp with an aspiration pneumonia. So I guess they didn't bother to hold his tube feeding before left. As a healthcare professional I strongly recommend not sending anyone you love to this dump

Having a loved one transferred from the hospital to this facility was stressful for our family but the moment we entered the door we were greeted with warmth and kindness. The staff in the memory care floor has been kind, patient and loving to our family and our mom. I had…read moremy left knee replaced and I needed to go somewhere where I could get therapy and they would make me work hard. I wanted to get strong, learn to walk and go home and that is exactly what I got. We accomplished that. I appreciated that they did my laundry and they did it well. The facility was clean, it smelled good, and all the staff were nice and kind. At first I hurt so much and couldn't move, but the staff were gentle and understanding. Now I can move around and do everything I need to do to go home and take care of myself. I can even walk with a cane. I am having my other knee replaced in April so I hope you will save a bed for me!

I have had to ask for help from the Nursing Home Ombudsman who works for the Commonwealth of…read moreMassachusetts and Coastline Elderly Services in order to get anything done for my mother at The Oaks, and even she is not able to get them to communicate with me. The latest problem is that they refuse to arrange with HealthDrive, their visiting doctor service, to get new glasses for my mother, despite the fact that I've already taken her to a retina specialist who said she could benefit from new glasses and the fact that I am paying for the glasses out of pocket. In the summer, The Oaks told the state ombudsman that one person would be my contact person for information about my mother. Since Thanksgiving, I have left over a dozen messages for that person and two other employees who said they would help me, and all but 1 call has gone ignored. The ombudsman has reported to me that a social worker stated that I would have to deal with speaking with whomever happens to be at the nurse's station at the moment I call, despite the fact that I have explained I keep getting conflicting information depending on who picks up the phone. Before Christmas, I explained the glasses situation to a nurse on duty, just as they wanted me to do, and she assured me she would have the appropriate person get back to me. No one has. I live nearly 2 hours away and work in a job that only gives me a short window of time to call them on weekdays, but none of this matters to The Oaks. The only thing they are on time with is the monthly bill. Do not waste your money here.

The staff is extremely caring and provides cheerful, competent assistance to the residents 24 by 7. The rooms are single rooms, which was very important to us. The food is delicious and varied, the view of Plymouth Harbor and the beautifully landscaped and accessible gardens are a great asset. Activities during the day cater to a variety of tastes and abilities. There is a daily chair exercise program and frequent musical entertainment. Living with disability and staying in a communal setting may not be easy, but if it is a necessity, my husband and I highly recommend Newfield.

My Father truly enjoyed the Independence Day Concert in the garden. He mentions that concert frequently. We evaluated many options and Newfield was a surprisingly easy choice. Cost is perfectly reasonable and there are zero unwanted financial entanglements. We are thankful such a wonderful place exists and that my Father is able to be a part of it. Enthusiastically recommended!
