My mother was not being cared for very well in her assisted living facility so I was desperate to make a change but only wanted to make that change once. My mother has thrived since moving to Laurelwoods. The staff are truly fantastic - you really feel they care about the patients and that they truly enjoy their jobs. This is reinforced by the caring, competent and engaged management team. My mother is happy every time I speak with her which makes me in return very happy. It has been 1.5 years since my Dad passed and it has taken this long to write a review of this…read moreabsolutely horrific "rehab" my father where my Dad spent 5 weeks October 2024 .The care was horrible, the nurses were mean and not helpful at all. The only person that tried was the PT can't remember his name. We pulled him out of there AMA but he was so depressed and was not improving at all. My Dad had bed sores on the both feet and lower back. He was there for rehab after being hospitalized for kidney issues. He was ambulatory and living on his own and driving prior to hospitalization then became quite deconditioned and needed rehab. The food was inedible and the admission nurse even said that. But that was minor to what he experienced at this horrible facility . The real reason I am writing this is because my Dad had weeping wounds on his legs and I came in to see the room full of flies, landing on his legs and food. The Air conditioning unit was not flush in window with big gaps to the outside (by the way it was October) I went to the nurses station to complain and ask for it to be fixed, the "charge nurse" said they would take of it on Monday, I said that is not acceptable, asked her if they had any duct tape or something to fix it, and she said as I walked away "who does she think I am? I am an RN not a fix it person" well I so happen to be an RN employed at a Boston hospital, so I said well so am I and I had packing tape in my car and fixed the a/c unit to secure from outside. the attitude by almost all of the staff was horrific. the case managers and others were not helpful and had no intentions on dealing with these issues. poor care, bad attitudes, disgusting facility that should be shut down by the state! NEVER let you love on stay here!! wish I was able to give 0 stars

Nice staff that go out of their way to make the residents feel comfortable, the menu is varied and well prepared, the rooms are pleasant and for me the most important thing - no "living odors" in the halls! The public visiting rooms are beautiful; oriental rugs, comfortable chairs and sofas with plenty of room to maneuver wheelchairs through. The dining room is set up with seating matched by the staff but you skip can this if you prefer and have meals in your room. Also, takeout food is acceptable as diets allow which is always a plus for someone shut inside indefinitely. All in all, my family was very pleased with this facility, and our recommendations to friends were also echoed positively by them. It's the go-to for our family for care emergencies going forward.

Having waited until my loved one was properly and completely removed from this facility before…read morewriting this review, I can now write it in good conscience. Put succinctly, this place is woefully inadequate for an elderly home in 2013. A nursing and rehabilitation center should feel warm and homey, but this place has the feel of a hospital more than anything else. This is partially due to the fact that the building was used long ago as a nursing home. We're talking the seventies here, people. Kindred: it's time for an upgrade. While you're at it, you need to employ more staff to care for the residents. One gets the impression, judging by the gauntlet of poor souls forced to sit on alarm-tripped chairs in the hallways, that the nurses at Kindred are enacting this cruel, degrading protocol to cut down on running about from room to room. From the central desk they can keep an eye on more of the heavier care residents as they sit drooling and moaning in the hallways, and so they can manage the place more easily with less people. They wouldn't have to do that, of course, if there was more staff present. Speaking of the staff, I'm not entirely thrilled with them, either. Outside of delivering very cold, condescending communication, I'm not convinced they are particularly skilled or interested in the art of thoughtful care. I called early on Father's Day to let the home know ahead of time that I'd be picking up my father for a family gathering. When I arrived a few hours later, I found him sitting disheveled in that lovely hallway, his pants reeking of urine (he has a catheter they need to change out every so often and somehow they are spilling fluid on him, no doubt due to being rushed). While we are on the subject of urine, I should point out that the halls and rooms invariably smell of it from one degree to another. In speaking with him on that day, I came to learn they don't let him walk around, either. He is forced to sit in a chair or lie down, even though he's not a fall risk. So much for him being allowed the freedom to go outside into the court yard. That was the last straw. A plan was made to get him out of there. The management of this facility--a corporation, of course--obviously has no interest in giving quality care. The objective can only be profit as they warehouse these poor, miserable souls in outdated hospital-like rooms. There is no warmth, no quality care, no passion, and no real comfort to be had here for the one you care about. How many of these elderly patients have been forgotten by indifferent relatives, condemned to rot in this horrible place? Avoid this facility at all costs. I'd further like to reach out to the company behind this operation and invite them to consider changing their ways. There is no excuse for a nursing home to be operating this way in this day and age.
