Nice people and very organized and informative unlike other reviews. Downside is risking your life to cross street to get to river (but tubing in a river is a risk anyway so...). Life jackets could be replaced but they work fine. As soon as we got in my husband lost his phone. He was unable to find it so we left. I returned tubes and informed them we were leaving (so they didn't think they lost us at pickup time). The manager gave us a credit until summer of 2022 so we can come back. The weather was crap the rest of our time there so we were unable to return but will definitely go back next summer. My fiance and I were stuck on the river this company told us was safe for 4 hours until a airboat could get us out. The river was not safe, they knew this and didn't close the season or stop us from going. All they want is your money And They Don't Care About Your Family's Lives Or Yours. Be safe. Made some last minute reservations for a full day kayak trip. I was a little worried about some of the reviews on here, but I had a really good time. The woman at the counter explained everything as far as parking and shuttle busses go. The van driver was friendly and the guy who checked us in at the launch was helpful. Word to the wise: DESPITE WHAT THEY SAY, CURRENTLY IT IS TOO SHALLOW AND SLOW TO ENJOY KAYAKING OR CANOEING DOWN THIS RIVER. Cancel your trip and get a refund. First let me say, their booking process is not ideal. They won't give you a refund for your trip if you try to cancel if it's within 7 days of visiting. I'd be ok with this, if the issue wasn't MINE. I received an email the day before my visit telling me the River was very low and that it might impede our visit. The options were to change or reschedule our trip. When I called and told them that my parents had back issues and we had rented a CANOE and KAYAKS, and thought it might be an issue, the girl said that we'd be fine because no one REALLY reported any issues. But we also can't cancel and get a refund but get credit for the rest of the year.....it was my birthday and I dropped over $200. So even though they knew about low river water probably weeks before (as a river does not just dry up in 1 day) they decided to tell us the day before. Before we could get a refund. Great. So we decided to go because there was no way we would come back up NH this year to re-do this and hope that the river would magically replenish. Bad idea. The girl checking us in, was rude, and talked to me like I was an idiot. I was trying to understand where we started, and where we would end. She just talked over me and seemed to rush me. She told me that there were only 2 pick up times, 3:45pm and 5pm. Nothing else and if I missed one, I'd have to call and be sure to wait the time. So we get in the water after dragging our kayaks out, and noticed we were probably the only people kayaking/canoeing. Everyone else was tubing. Bad sign right there. We constantly ran into ground. There were some parts that the water was barely over my ankle, and yet the girl on the phone assured me the day before there would be "no issue". Laughable. The real issue I found was the ending spot. The place for kayaks to stop on trip 2 to swan falls is RIDICULOUS. It's filled with hazardous slippery rocks, with no path out, and barely any signage other than a crappy piece of plywood with spray paint. Granted we have 4 kayaks and 1 large heavy canoe. So I decide to drag my kayak up and start walking to the "pick up" spot they told us about. Again, almost little to no signage that we are even in the right spot. There was an abandoned building, and a small dirt path but that was it. So I get there at 3:45pm on the dot, and there was no one there. I started panicking because the girl said if we missed our pick up time we'd have to wait even longer to be picked up. And I couldn't picture my poor parents having to carry that canoe alone up that small shitty dirt path. So I try calling the office on EVERYONES phones (AT&T and T-Mobile/Sprint) and there was no signal. Every time I tried to call I could hear them, but they couldn't hear me at all. So by 3:55 I am REALLY panicking. But luckily I see a white van come down, and these 2 guys from Saco Bound came to pick us up. By that time everyone/everything made it out of the water except the canoe. The guys grabbed that canoe with my dad and brought it to the van and started hooking everything up. The girl at the front desk made it clear they'd only take the drivers back to the original drop off spot, and then the drivers would have to drive BACK to the end spot to grab the rest of us. Luckily the guys were smart enough to realize that was dumb and just took us all back to the cars since we were the ONLY people that clearly kayaked at that time. The Saco River is beautiful, but my god this company is a joke. You'd think they'd have staff around the end spot to assist people, or if they know that the end spot is so poor, there would be more signage or an option to change where to end/trip types. I would never recommend this place, and would love a refund for this visit. I'll be singing the disappointments of this place to anyone who will listen. I have done this tubing trip once before so a friend and I decided to come back....and tube the Saco River on July 4th! It was a blast...while the sign in / lodge area was a chaotic mess of people, the staff handled this 90 degree holiday, pretty well. We got our tubes and were in the river 15 minutes beyond our quoted time. There were tons of other groups tubing but we never felt that it was overcrowded or uncomfortable. My only complaint would be that the check in people seriously mis judged the bus pick up times. If you know the river is running slow and that the 2-3 hour trip would be more like 3-4 hours (without swimming / paddling ahead)...let people know. I would have brought more sunscreen! (Knowing it was a holiday and that there were busses every half hour kept me from worrying but had i not done this before - that alone would have made me super nervous!) Other than the sunburn, we both had an awesome trip! Please remember to carry out what you carry in so others can enjoy this leisurely float for years to come!!! read more

Amazing and relaxing solo trip from Redstone to Base. There was a little confusion when I first arrived that lead me to dropping in at the wrong spot, but when I arrived at the end of my float the staff was very helpful with getting me a shuttle to my car (even though I sassed the very nice young man, cause I was tired) Sorry to that nice young man at the main base! And a special thank you to Emily and Jake who picked me up and brought me to my car- they were both very kind, professional and forgiving of my mix-up. Great experience. My group of nine came for July 4th weekend and signed up for the tubing experience and the check-in was fast and straightforward, staff were friendly, and the instructions for tubing pickup was straight forward. There was a lot of people/traffic waiting for the shuttle at the end, but staff sent additional shuttles to pickup so wait was not too bad on our day. Would definitely recommend. read more

After signing in, we drive across the street to start the trip and discover the Porta Potties were crawling with various species of beetles and were covered in piss, gross. We see three teens with their heads down in their cellphones sitting on a table near the canoes, so we head over. They couldn't be bothered to even look up, a really bad look for them. So they point to a canoe and say yeah there you go, river is that way. I had to carry my canoe down the muddy wet boat ramp while those 3 "workers" cruised instagram, wtf! I saw a lot of beer cans both floating and chilling on the bottom of the river...somebody ought to do something about that. Speaking of the river, where is all of the water??? Forcing a five-star admiral to have to drag his vessel through 2 inch deep water for hundreds of yards on end is an outrage. When we got to the pig farm the 1:45 pickup occurred at 2:30! How is this possible? Its a 10 minute ride at worst. While waiting we discovered another group had been stranded waiting there for almost 2 hours, incredible! When the pickup van finally showed up we had to load the canoes into the boat rack for the lady, she was totally useless and her van's A/C blew hot air! This company is a joke. read more

We are a large group of 11 - this company is HORRIBLE and I would recommend everyone go to another company for tubing.....any other company. I would rather choose a company run by a third grader than this company!! 1. My husband called and confirmed the location to go to for tubing and even said "across from Flatbreads"? They responded yes, please arrive here 15 minutes prior to your reservation. We get there and they said nope wrong location - go to this other location (luckily we got there early enough to still make our reservation). 2. We get there and they tell us to go get our tubes and that they will help us stop traffic crossing the Street. Well, that did NOT happen. It is an extremely busy road so you would think they would be assisting their customers. Life jackets looked as if they had never been rinsed off in 20 years. 3. Once in the river it was not great because the water was so low we kept getting stuck in the sand/rocks. Not their fault the river was low, but just as an fyi. 4. Once we got to our exit on the river we called the company as there was no one there to get us. When my husband spoke to the company about picking us up they said "oh all the shuttles have run for the day but I will come get you". 5. The hike to the shuttle was an interesting hike up a few steep hills through the woods with our tubes/toddlers/70yr old mil who has issues and other little kids. We asked if this was an easy walk and they told us yes....not true 6. Only thing pleasant about this company was the driver that drove us back. read more

Really good prices - they run 43 miles of the Saco River (for pick up & put-in locations). This is the most of any Saco River outfitter you will find. They will pick you up at one of the take out spots - call them to discuss if you have questions. I've been tubing and kayaking with them 4x. Solo trips, no guided tours. Best outfitter in the Conway area with the largest amount of staff. You need to bring a shovel to bury your scat if you do an overnight trip (bury in 6+ inches of soil). There are river patrollers you may run into. No glass on the River, and you must take all your trash with you after your trip is done. read more

Wish we had read the reviews before booking our kayak trip with this company. We had an extremely quick introduction prior to being sent down the river... From an employee that made us know how understaffed they were. Please save the venting for non-customers! It was highly encouraged we bring our kayaks up to the pick-up point because they were all "so exhausted". Okay, seemed fine but sort of made us feel obligated. The section to lug them out of the river was no way near the pick-up point. So not really doable without someone strong in your group. Arrived at the pick up location two hours before our pickup. We even stopped for a 20 minute snack along the river. So we called the company at 12:50 to be asked to be picked up early especially since it was starting to rain. They said there was a 1:45 and 2:45 pickup van. Waited in a complete down pour. Freezing cold. Nobody showed up at 1:45. So we called at 1:55. We were told a van was on its way, but they would send a second van to make sure we had a ride. Two vans finally arrived at 2:30! (It took them 35 minutes to get that second van?). By this time, there were enough people waiting to fill an entire van to head back to our cars. We were told we had to wait until 2:45 to head back incase there were more people coming in from the river. Really? How about you take the people back that have been waiting almost 2 hours and leave the second van for the next group! Not okay. So, the drive back to our car? It wasn't even a 10 minute drive! Question being, why were we left there since 12:50 with two phone calls in the pouring rain when it should have been a 10 minute drive to make a customer happy. One star for the fact that they eventually came to get us, and that's not saying much. We didn't realize until later that evening that we had been sent an email from the company stating that the river level was extremely low. They sent it the morning of but didn't bother to mention it when we were taking off. There were quite a few sections where we had to get out and push the kayak. We still had a fun time regardless, it was the company's lack of care for picking us up at the end that would make me never recommend them to a friend. read more

My group of 19 had a GREAT time on the Redstone trip! From check-in, to loading to the return we had a great time! The kids loved the rope swing and there were plenty of spots to pull over and have lunch on a beach. This is our second year in a row and we will definitely continue the tradition! read more

We had a great float today at Saco Bound! Parking and check-in was easy with plenty of staff checking folks in. The tubes are excellent, sturdy and with a headrest, and the gear tote/cooler tube fit a standard large cooler and was worth the cost so we could have lunch on a sandy beach. We did the three mile trip from the Main Street location to Westin beach. It did take about 3 hours float time, and it was clear where to pull out. The water was low, but the river bottom is mostly clear and sandy, so we didn't mind walking a few times. I don't know if we were lucky or not, but the bus picked up our party of four immediately and dropped us off at our car. A great day. read more

This company is the worst. Here is how it started showed up and they had no dry bags available, but you can buy one for 20 bucks. They had 1 left for sale which we lucky to get.What are people supposed to do with their car keys cell phone etc? I'm sure it's in the waiver that they are not responsible for property left in cars. Well if you cannot take your car keys with you down the river what is your choice, leave your car unlocked.One gross porta potty in the parking lot for customers to use. Then you need to take your tube and cross a major highway to get to the water. Very dangerous as cars are speeding and you cannot see around the bend in the road. The river was so shallow we went in August. I think I spent more time walking, pulling the tube then floating the 3 miles.The current is painfully slow so slow you could walk faster. It took us almost 4 hours to go the 3 miles as we baked in the sun. Once we got to the end there is a steep muddy hill you need to climb up with your tube.Then it took 45 minutes to get back to the car as they sent a van that held 10. The women said I have to go back and get the bus after this trip we had an emergency. Meanwhile more and more people were finishing and more and more people waiting for a ride back.This place was a horrible experience for our family outing of 10. Save your money and try somewhere else. They are not customer focused. Seems like once they have your money now your on your own. read more

Just back from the 3 mile river tubing trip yesterday. The water was so low that we had to frequently get out and pull our tubes behind us. I realize that they have no control over the water level, but should've been more up front and given an option to reschedule. The water was only a few inches in many many areas, so when sitting in the tube we were actually sitting on the bottom of the river. Not the relaxing and fun time I had hoped for. read more

Decided to do the full day canoe trip with our kids and friends and their kids. Was never given or aware of a pick up time at the Landing. Arrived at Landing at 5pm and the transportation bus to bring us back to our cars left without us. We called and were told 20-30 min until next bus and 1 hr and 25 min later someone shows up in a truck and tells us no one is coming to get us and he could take our husbands back to the cars while the wives and children stay behind. Then the bus finally shows up after our husbands left to go get our cars. Totally unprofessional. read more

Did a trip yestiday , the river was abit low but we managed ok, getting out only a few times to push. Directions at the start were vague, had to ask about the dam and pull out point. River is really nice and clean, very quiet, 2nd week in Sept week day. Take out point Pigs Farm, not very well marked, we found it by accident. Yellow and blue paint very faided. Getting out of my kayak at the dock tipped over, the dock is far to high for kayaks. My wife was ok as I was holding her kayak to get out. I am no spring chicken 63, experianced kayaker, have 4 at home. I believe my kayak was leaking the whole trip, alot of water sloshing around. Bus wait was about 40 minites, I was lucky it was sunny and warm. Overal, echo other comments made, it was good trip, but not sure I do it again with same company. read more

Wow, dealing with these people put my patience to the test. It's rare that so many people in a place seem so genuinely pissed off that you decided to become a customer. Perhaps they were more angry at each other, but they were completely unhelpful. In the end, once we went over to the launch site and got in the water it was an amazing trip, but next time I'll find a different place to rent our kayaks. We booked online, which was a big mistake because their system was all messed up, and then it directed us to a different location in North Conway (which has a lot of traffic) though that location couldn't process our order. And there seemed to be plenty of extra kayaks. No bathrooms (besides a couple crappy portable outhouses), no water, and legions of whining kids, entitled parents, and drunk bros. Come to think of it, I'd be angry too if I had to deal with that all day! Short version: Never again. Nasty rude people, crappy equipment (for about $70 per person after hidden fees), late shuttle pickup, and crass and annoying other customers and people on the lake. read more

I dislike this place for a few different reasons. I come in here and it was the first strike. There were 5 employees and none of them even acknowledged I was standing at the desk waiting until I blurted out HI! (super friendly with a fake smile, of course) Then someone proceeded to tell me that someone else would help me at the other desk over there, which was the girl eating Chinese food in front of me with chicken in her mouth. SO UNPROFESSIONAL. Beyond the customer service, they only offer ONE pick up time at the second to last pull out on the river. ONE PM......does anyone else know how hard it is to do that? The river was so low, we got out and dragged our canoes so many times and it was packed (probably because there were lots of people trying to beat the ONE PM pick up time. Even though we got there a little before 1, they were behind and we waited well over an hour. So what the hell was I rushing there for? I won't be renting from them ever again, and girls.... enjoy being unprofessional and eating your sloppy Chinese food in front of customers. GAG read more

The staff should take lessons in hospitality. They were not very friendly. The young lady at the counter was very uninterested. When we arrived at the drop off site, we had to get the kayak into the river ourselves. This involved navigating down a steep decline. Once my husband and I got the kayaks in the water he had a little difficulty staying upright as these kayaks are not like the sea worthy ones we are used to. So, he had to try to pull his kayak back up the incline. The guy who checked us in never helped my husband drag that friggin kayak back up. Another guy who was waiting to put his kayak in helped my husband pull the kayak up. The river was beautiful. We made it to our pick up site with no problems. We got there early and had to wait in a mosquito infested area at the "pig farm" take out. Take plenty of bug spray. Also they don't tell you but you should bring plenty of water and also stop along the way because they tell you it's a 4 hour trip although if you don't stop you will be there at least an hour early. OMG, the bus driver was the worst. I said hello and he never acknowledged me or any of the other people getting on the bus. If you don't like your job get another one. Another sacobound bus driver was at the second pick up site. He was also rude to another employee who tried to get him to give his extra pick ups a ride. If we do come back to this area we will NEVER use Saco Bound. In fact we're still in town and might do another trip but it will be with another group. Saco Bound should change the name to Sucko Bound. read more

I legit had the worst experience with this company. Everything was fine until we arrived at our destination 6 miles away from where we parked. When we got to our destination, there were people that had been waiting for 2.5 hours for a bus to take them back to the starting point. People were fighting over who would get on the next bus to go back. It was so disorganized and chaotic. I will never book through this company again. So disappointing. read more

We arrived back to our destination earlier than planned, but the company refused to assist us with an earlier pick up which left us stranded for the night on the river. Luckily, the amazing people at woodland acres were extremely accommodating and helped us with everything we needed. 5 of us (2 adults, 3 young teenage girls) took the 3 mile tubing trip, and we had none of the complaints the other reviewers had. This was my first tubing experience, and I was afraid to commit to the 3 miles, but I could have tubed all day. Tubing is awesome! I actually dumped myself at the beginning of the trip, but that was my own dumb fault, and after that, it was one of the most relaxing days I've ever had. We ended up here because we didn't make reservations, and this was the only place we could get in, and it all worked out fine. Service was very friendly, and the equipment was problem free. I got one of the pink floats with the backrest and no hole, and it was a super comfortable ride down the river. I switched for part of the trip to try the large green tube with the hole, which was a nice change of position, but I prefered the back/neck rest. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was the ending point. As others have said, they need signage. There was a guy on the shore shouting us over, but we were on the wrong side of the river, and it was work to get across. The brief ride back was on an entertainingly ancient bus. The entire trip in the river was about 2.5 hours because we didn't really stop at any of the beaches. Next time, I would prefer to try a place that drives you to the starting point and you end up at the car. Then I wouldn't have to worry about timing. read more

I write this review to say thank you to Saco River and, in particular, to Emily, the manager who worked with me and to Bob, who followed up when my order got screwed up to make sure that everything worked out okay. Emily and Bob extended to me excellent customer service after a screw up on their end (not Emily and Bob's, but one of their employees--story too much to go into here). Emily made sure that we got the equipment we needed and that there was a slot for us. She was terrific. Our trip was excellent. There was an element of chaos to the whole experience at the purchasing and unloading ends, but honestly, I'm not sure it could be otherwise, with so many people there on a busy Saturday afternoon in the middle of the summer. Also, parking is an issue (as in, there was none when we got there). I recommend Saco Bound to you, and once we got on the river, as others have said, the trip was absolutely fantastic. But boy, it took a lot to get to that point. Again, though, Emily and Bob treated us right and we appreciate it. read more

Ok, we all know tubing/canoeing down the Saco is a BLAST, so let's get that out there. This review is on the STAFF of Saco Bound, not the tubing trip. We had a reservation for 2 tubes/life jackets and arrived about 11 am. They take anyone looking for 4-6 hours on the river and figured we could get a trip which allowed us to not do a "return" shuttle. Nope, that wasn't available, only a 3 pm pickup time to come back to the car. We asked about a dry bag for our stuff and they were already out of their rentals, and appear to never have any for sale. I also asked about water shoes and was pointed to a poor selection of crappy floating flip flops. Their website says you can get them for $10. NOT Over all the service was pathetic. Not being interested in helping, we decided to cancel the tubing run and found a better thing to do. I won't be back! I will be emailing the owner. read more

We have used saco bound once before this maybe 10 years ago and everything went relatively smoothly. It was just me and my 18 year old daughter and we rented two single kayaks. The departure was fine and we went down the river for maybe an hour as we had taken the three mile route. When we got off at the beach we were told to we waited around for half an hour with no shuttle in sight. I was under the impression they came every fifteen minutes but apparently I was wrong. We called and they said a shuttle would be there in another hour. My daughter had to drag the kayaks up a small hill to the parking lot with no help from anyone. We ended up waiting at the beach for longer than we were actually kayaking in the river. This place is a disorganized circus and I will not be coming back. read more

The ending is awful. It's so rocky so it's very difficult to get your canoes up. People in my party got stuck in the currents and almost hit the dam but luckily got out. There is no signs or anything telling you that the end is right there until you get there. I'm never going here ever again. read more

i would give no stars but thats not an option. They charge by the person for camping not the campsite. The sites are unmarked and unkept. We arrived to trash all over the place at what we thought was our location. The directions we were given to get to the campsite were on an awful hand drawn map that was incorrect. We ended up following the trail and ended up in someones backyard. No warning of needing an suv either, good thing we have one. The tubing was terrible. An average of 1 foot depth the entire time when our butts werent hitting the bottom. Again no warning of how shallow the river was. We had to walk about 85% of the time. We witnessed many other people doing the same. The employee that picked us up told us we could get on the 16 passenger bus. We got on and it was full and we were told to stand or sit on a cinderblock in the back... No thanks. Another van showed up and we got on that but the driver was texting while bringing us to the main building. I know camping isnt glamorous and that its just tubing in a river but this company is unprofessional and we paid good money for a bad time. Will not be back and will not reccomend. read more

The paddle itself was nice, though the route we were given wasn't the most scenic on the Saco. We have used several other companies over the years and have been dropped off at lovely spots. Saco Bound was pretty terrible at communication, and judging from other reviews, our experience wasn't unique. We booked this trip with them because they were the only outfit that had availability for our date. When we got there we were given minimal instruction on where to go, I asked specifically how we end/get picked up and he told us just stop at the damn, and shuttles run every 15 minutes and "no need to call". We ended the trip on a slightly scary stopping point (and having 2 small kids made it a little more so), luckily another customer helped us all get to shore. There were maybe a dozen other people waiting (and probably 20+ towards the end) for a shuttle. Most all were told the same thing shuttles run constantly, though we all waited over an hour for one to arrive. When several of us called the main office the woman was rude and said we were supposed to have scheduled a pickup time. That was definitely not communicated. We also were not told to drag our kayaks/canoes up the hill so we had to spend 15 minutes or so lugging them up and loading onto the rack. They then only took "drivers" so parties were split up while people went back to get cars and then return to pick the rest up. All of this took closer to 2 hours. After being on the river for several hours, having to wait for all of that- no thanks! As I mentioned previously, we have used other kayak rental places around Conway and have never had such crappy service. read more

It is unfortunate that I am writing a negative review since I have been coming to this place for many years but I've had it with their disorganization. Every year I've called ahead several times to double check our reservations and our tubes and YET it is still a mess every year. There is definitely a communication issue among staff. Everything is very disjointed, confusing, and unorganized. Each year it has gotten worse and this year I reached my boiling point. The actual river is beautiful and the tubes are great but I will not be using Saco Bound in the future due to the frustrating process I've had to endure!! read more

We had a beautiful day, however at completion, the "shuttle bus" only takes back one person to the car even though on the website you pay 12$ for the shuttle...for ONE person the you wait.....wait.....and wait some more. BUYER BEWARE! Literally one of, if not the worst company I have ever dealt with in a very long time. We purchased 4 passes to do that day tube down the saco river. Well the night before we were supposed to go, it rained. really hard. so much so that the river was closed to any recreational activity. Obviously this is not their fault and not ours either. So we called to get a refund, being that we were leaving town the next day and wouldn't be able to reschedule. After 30 minutes on the phone with several people refusing to give us a refund and telling us there was nothing they could do about it. Even though in the agreement it states that they will give a refund if they cannot provide the services. they will not give you a refund if you are just canceling. Well that's obviously not a policy they stand by. I was tempted to go down there and give them a piece of my mind, however I took the highroad. I just called my credit card company and had them dispute the charges. Got a full refund and let my credit card deal with them. So if you run into a similar issue, just let the professionals take care of it. Or better yet, don't book with this company. There are WAY better companies out there that give the exact same experiences/products without the hassle of terrible customer service. read more

Had a great experience kayaking! We did the half day trip and while yes the pull out at Swan Falls is challenging, we were thoroughly warned. The staff was incredibly helpful and safe given COVID. Would highly recommend! read more
