The end of a lovely night

Sunset is the opening music of the night -- Mehmet Murat ildan A lovely little area of Laguna with great sunset views, rocks to explore, and crashing waves to capture on camera. Highly recommended for now while it is still a hidden gem :-)

This a hidden gem in Laguna and beats the main beach crowd. Get here early during summer peak season. Slice of heaven!

Shaw's Cove is a truly spectacular location and one of the high points of all of the Laguna Beach coast line. What you will find here is a vast array of tide pools and ocean rock formations that run along the coast line. There is also a beach area for those people who want to prepare for their scuba dive, snorkeling, a dip in the water, or to simply sunbath on a warm summer day. It is very easy to get to Shaw's Cove. You simply need to turn off of the Coast Highway onto Fairview and proceed West. At the end of the street, there you are. There's a staircase that will take you straight to the water. There are many things to see at Shaw's Cove. Certainly, the tide pools are a high point. There is a vast array of ocean sea life that live in these tide pools. It is a great place to watch the ocean waves crashing giving life to all of these living creatures. Overall, a very beautiful location and a truly great place to experience the Southern California oceanscape.

The entrance to beach is on the right.

A nice little beach to sit and chill for a bit. Can walk your dog but be careful of the rocks. I came during a weekday morning and there was parking but mind and respect the residential area. Finding the steps that lead down to the beach can be tricky so keep a lookout for the stairway.

    Beautiful beach

Nice place, good place to spend time with kids, especially when it is nice weather. Many things to explore around

Shaw's Cove is a series of beautiful, tiny cove beaches in Laguana Beach, CA. Walking distance from Diver's Cove, Fisherman's Cove, Rockpile Beach, Heisler Park, etc., unlike the other landmarks, Shaw's Cove is a treasure neatly tucked away in a residential neighborhood. The cove beaches are all really tiny (in terms of area) so you will be squeezed on a tiny strip of sand along other beachgoers. The coastline of the cove beaches tend to be more jagged than normal beaches. The geography also leads to incredible waves so you never feel completely safe from being splashed. I love the cove beaches for their beautiful shorelines, stunning cliffs, caves, and picturesque waves. Parking: There is metered parking near Heisler Park that is ~20 min walk to Shaw's Cove. (Good place to park if you intend to visit other nearby coves.) There is also a bus that will take you to Shaw's Cove. I'm not confident about the state of nearby residential street parking since I walked to Shaw's. Tips: * On low tide, you can walk over to Fisherman's Cove. This is a huge shortcut back to Heisler Park. * There is a lifeguard on duty * This is walking distance from Heisler Park, Main Beach, Fisherman's Cove, etc. If you are a tourist, I recommend budgeting 3+ hours and visiting more tnearby landmarks.

Love this cove. Street parking isn't too bad. Bathroom walking distance if needed. The stairs down aren't terrible l, just be prepared for them.

Beautiful cove to relax with friends and family. There were people enjoying the sunset, taking walks, people watching, tide-pooling, and scuba diving. Parking can be tough, but the stairs are not too steep to access the cove which makes this a top stop for us.

This is such a beautiful area in Laguna Beach, I'm surprised that it does not get busier here! There are rocky areas to explore, as well as a sandy beach area to lay out and relax and enjoy the waves crashing. Very clean and serene, this is one of our favorite areas in Laguna Beach! I deal for small children as it does not get very busy here. Highly recommended!

Gorgeous spot with amazing tide pools . Best of both worlds , relaxing on the beach and climbing around rocks and seeing the anemones and crabs .

A small beach, but very striking, with rocks, tidepools, on the other side of the palm trees on the buff that you see from Crescent Bay Beach. Popular with the scuba divers - we saw several going in and coming out in the short time we were there, and the waves were much calmer than some of the other beaches we had been to. Saw lots of sea anemones, fish and pretty shells in the tide pools, and enjoyed swimming and body-surfing; we could even see some fish without the benefit of a mask and snorkel.

Great place to go for photography especially in the winter time when there's fewer people. The parking can be tough in the summer and there's a few free spots down the street. Highly recommended.

    Shaw's Cove. The waters fine!

Ask the Community - Shaws Cove

Is this a good place to take family photos?

    Yes!

What time is the best time to go snorkeling?

The best time to go snorkeling is usually during low tide. When that is varies. You can use a website like surf-forecast to find the high and low peaks. https://www.surf-forecast.com/breaks/Laguna-Beach/tides/latest

Do you know if Shaw's Cove allow pet?

Yes they do but only as long as they are on a leash and you bring your own bags to clean up after them.

Can anyone tell me what the waves are like here? I'm looking for a beach with small waves, safe for little kids.

Hi so the best Beach for toddlers is baby Beach In Dana Point.. I went last year with my then 18mo old and it was perfect- easy free parking , no waves , clean bathrooms it's the best for a Mom venturing out with the kids

Is there starfish here, if so are they hard to find?

We were on the small beach by Shaws Cove and exploring some of the tide pools on the left and right of it, we didn't see any starfish so I'm guessing if there are they may not be very common.

I grew up here in Los Angeles county, always just a few minutes away from the beach but every time I made it out to the water all I ever did was sit out on the sand or occasionally dip my feet. I didn't want my family to do the same. I want my kids to take full advantage of their surroundings. Enter Gary Golding. He is a human encyclopedia of this environment and how to navigate it. I felt more at ease with him as our tour guide And much more open about exploring and trying new things. I would have never gone out to Zuma beach on my own but there I was with my family having the time of our lives snorkeling and mingling with nature. Now keep in mind you can come to him with an idea of what you want to do or give him a general idea and let him plan it out. I would suggest a kayaking adventure which can be done at different locations. Since we have such great weather here in So Cal it's a year round opportunity. He is very knowledgable and enthusiastic and you'll be surprised how much you learn when the day is done. I can't wait until our next adventure.

Hi everyone, My husband booked with this place for my…read morebirthday last month. I had a good time with my friends, captain was cool. The only downfall is my husband said he was expecting to go in open ocean and that we didn't need to pay extra for a captain if we're just going to stay in the island. Then at the end we also had to tip the captain. Which was fine because he was cool but keep in mind you don't have to pay for it if you're going to be around the cove. To top this all off after my husband left a review they called my husband asking him to change his review and exchange they will give him two hour free yacht ride, so we can go in the open ocean. We tried so many times contacting them, they told us let us know when is a good day. After us letting them know, he told us he will let us know when is a good day for him THIS month. I had told my parents we would take them on a yacht ride, so now I look dumb because it is the end of the month and the guy never got back to me on Instagram, over text we tried contacting them. So, now I have to go back and leave a review because it just wasn't right for them to do that. I'm leaving some pictures of the conversation me and the company had over Instagram. These are not the messages that my husband had separately with them as well. RESPONSE TO THE NOW DELETED COMMENT: never said I didn't have fun, my friends were there, we brought our drinks and captain was nice. A man is only as good as his word and obviously now you're lying and saying myself and everyone else on the boat was drunk. Of course we would want to take advantage of another yacht ride to go in the open ocean like he originally planned we were going to take our toddler and my parents so it's really baffling how you're trying to make it seem like it's our fault. It was my birthday and I didn't pay for it so I didn't know what was included in the package I still had fun but I am speaking on behalf of my husband. We just didn't get what we paid for. And by the messages in the picture I will let the dates and convo speak for themselves. We don't want the complimentary ride because you obviously had an attitude about giving it, and never got back to us. No hard feelings, good day!

There was a special going on online for the spring weeks, and let me tell you, it was too good to pass up! Everywhere else was really expensive and did not include dive gear. I was lucky because I was supposed to get certified a month before I started with BLA, so I already had open water approved dived gear that I bought at a local dive shop. The only thing I needed from BLA was booties because I wanted an extra pair. Class days were from 8am-5pm and they cover EVERYTHING! It is a very thorough class and if you get Spencer, you'll be glad to know he is upbeat, light-hearted, and detailed. (I can only speak for my instructor this is not to say no one else is.) The pool days are challenging because you are toting your gear, but this is what builds strength, endurance, mental stimulation, and lets face it, RESPONSIBILITY. You are responsible for all of your things, so get used to carrying it. On beach days, I had my husband drive and carry my tanks for me to ease any extra stress, they didn't mind, but on pool days, I did it all myself. I want to give a special thank you to Nathan, dive master who was just as poised, supportive, and informative as my dive instructor. We had fun on beach days. 2nd day was better than the first. The sun eas out, better visibility, we saw a horn shark, I saw a lobster chillin by himself in the sand. It was great! I appreciate how professional and composed my dive Instructor, Spencer was under the water, that can't be easy. He was rather hard on us, but it's because he wants us to master the skills and really understand everything there is to know. Scuba diving is fun, but should be taken seriously when learning the ins, outs, hows, and whats. It is a guaranteed work out! No kidding. Hydrate and take food with you. Eat lost of bananas, I drank protein shakes on my beach days. I am proud to say I started my training April 1st, and received my open water diver certification April 14th. I am not here to pretend like this was easy, it wasn't, but it wasn't impossible either. It can be done if you ask questions, pay attention, and don't give up. Remember: once you are certified is a lifetime accomplishment, so get it done! The hardest part for me was the cold water San Diego had to offer! Thank you Beyond Land Adventures, I look forward to taking some more dive courses with you. I recommend this shop if you are trying to get the full experience and be comfortable with diving after training. They're very informative and are passionate about what they do.
