Do you all know that Kroger once tried to buy Albertsons? I'm not sure if this is still in progress…read moreor not, only that at this point I really hope it doesn't go through. I don't love monopolies, unless I am winning at the board game. So I look up cheap grocery stores, and other than Aldi, Food4Less came up. I found one not too far away from me and decided to venture up there. I walked through the doors and some of the first merchandise I see has the Kroger logo. Go figure. Where it comes to this specific grocery store, variety is one of the items that cost it points Their selection was fair, but the deli department is notably small, and there is no visible butcher shop (though there are meats and seafood for sale). You can more or less find everything you would need among these notably very wide aisles, but perhaps some items would require one to go elsewhere. Among the items they had, the store appeared clean and well stocked. When it comes to their prices, while nothing is cheap anymore, especially in Chicagoland, I found their prices were a little lower than average, especially for the eggs. When it comes to the customer service, this could also be a little bit better. While there was no one at the customer service desk, it had a little sign that said that this register is closed. So... if you need to return something or if a price isn't right, what then? You're just out of luck or something? I'd also like to note that this is a place where you bag your own groceries. Not a problem, necessarily, just thought I'd put it out there. Thus, while I appreciate the lower prices, the slightly limited selection and the lack of customer service cost Food4Less a couple points. Still respectable though, and I can still see myself coming back on occasion.

The manager Lisa Padilla allows Employees to Smoke Weed while on lunch and come back inside smelling like marijuana. This company lets homeless steal and put Employees in Danger as well. The manager of the Store calls off a lot. She suppose to update the schedule for the employees and she does not do her job so well. Also, check the dates on Food Products. Make sure you are eating Something that doesn't expire Soon. Be careful of this Store Customers.

Surprisingly, all of these homemade items are reasonably priced! Their Pico de Gallo is one such example. I've tried the Pico from Whole Foods, Mariano's, Cermak, Morelia, and others, and none of them come close. The Tres Leches cake is soft, flavorful, and soaked with delicious sweet milk. This is, without an exaggeration, better than some cakes of the same name I've had for three times the money in sit-down restaurants. The marinated chicken is thin and bursting with flavor. I've made this in the pan, in the air fryer, and both have been excellent. I haven't extensively tried marinated chicken from larger grocery stores, but perhaps due to the thickness alone, Salsa's is superior (at the very least, nowhere near inferior). The Queso Blanco is fantastic. It is velvety and smooth, with the kind of mild, savory flavor that makes me want to put it on everything that isn't dessert. However, the yellow queso did not land in the same way. Especially since they'd added likely pre-shredded cheese from the bag (which comes with anti-caking agents like starch), and this worked against anything it otherwise had going for it. Outside of these items, and the home-made tamales (only available on weekends - not had any yet), the rest of the experience is what I would expect from a family run bodega. Some items are prices comparable to the grocery store, and others are highway robbery. They also have repackaged items, which might work for spices, but not for the inimitable, imitation Bac'n bits. Why, other than to look fancy and char In terms of service, it is a mixed bag. Depending on who is on shift, the service you get may be more curt or cordial, but never unpleasant. Final verdict: There are some items that I will go out of my way to Salsa's for. At the same time, if I find myself needing ketchup or cheese slices, I will instead use one of the big chains.

A lot of my friends wanted it to be. They invested too. I want an owner managed co-op in my neighborhood that would have organic produce and everything great. 7 years later . . . little progress. Pop ups of crap, no groceries. It's all we need more owners and certifications and permissions and construction. And more money, always more money. MILLIONS. I think the money is being embezzled. More about who they are is found here: https://wildonionmarket.com/our-co-op/ Last week was the very first time I went and I just love their selection of local and niche goods. I left with what I needed on my grocery list in addition to a little more that I didn't think I'd want but needed! I also had lunch at 4 Suns Kitchen who thankfully has a permanent storefront in the co-op. 4 Suns is a New Orleans style restaurant that offers a lot of tasty fare like gumbo, Po'boys, rice/quinoa bowls, smoothies and juices. I just had their catfish Po'boy which was so good and I'm slowly eating my way through their menu. I anticipate any future orders I get from there is going to be solid all around. Parking is a little tight here. Wild Onion is in a strip mall however there are multiple, popular businesses that share space (Wing Stop, La Michoacana and an insurance store) so parking is kinda hit or miss. Try going during off times otherwise the alternative is metered street parking.

Enter Wild Onion - they have something I've never seen in a grocery store before... you're able to buy spices and some baking needs (e.g. cornmeal) by weight! No more caked up spices or asking mom if you can borrow some cumin, and having her give you the whole bottle anyway. Another area where Wild Onion shines is the sheer volume of local products. It is like a little farmers market in a store. While I understand why these products are more expensive than Kroger's, other products came with some sticker shock. Since Wild Onion is small, it likely won't replace your everyday grocery store. However, it can be an excellent supplement, especially if you're looking for something locally grown/made (in the case of bread), or just a bit of a spice. Final note, while interaction has been limited, service was refreshingly kind and welcoming. Thus, Wild Onion won't make it into my regular rotation, but when I need something a little extra special or specific, it will be the first place I go.

We bought tons of bread, pastries, and Kosher meats. Store is clean, and it smells like good cooked foods inside near the Deli. The Cinnamon Babka is FIRE. Taste really good, I am not pulling anyone's skin when I say FIRE. Nice people and employees here. We will be back on our next trip.

I've been going to JD Mills for nearly a decade and I absolutely adore this store! I'm trying hard…read moreto stay away from the chain supplement stores (I'm looking at you Vitamin Shoppe!) and doing my part to support local and so far it's been paying off. They not only sell vitamins and supplements but it's also a small health food grocery store selling a gamut of organic items from fruit and veggies to prepackaged, frozen items. I especially like their grocery store bulk bins where you can purchase dry goods by the pound. The owner, Mr. Dinesh, is friendly and the store manager has always been helpful. Both always greet me when I visit and if I have trouble finding things, they're always ready to help. One thing not to skip is getting their freshly made in-house samosas. They are ridiculously good and quite possibly the best frickin samosas I've ever had so far. The owner also mentioned to me that they sell lentil soup and Biryani. I'm almost tempted to go back and try that too. JD Mills is situated in a strip mall with ample parking. They have a few dedicated spaces for customers with a 20-minute limit. Check them out! They are an amazing find and a gem in the neighborhood.

I also like that they have the Earth Balance soy-free variety of the vegan butter, since that one is hard to find in supermarkets. And I buy loose-weight jasmine tea here too. Now I've discovered that the owner makes and sells his own samosas here every day -- both regular and gluten-free -- and they taste fantastic and are very reasonably priced ($2.29 each + tax). They come with the two classic red and green Indian sauces. That's a great deal.
