Steve at Avalon struck me as extremely knowledgeable, as he was able to answer my barrage of technical questions with ease and confidence. It was clear that he has been doing photography for a very long time and really knows what he's doing. At some point, I had a phone conversation with another wedding vendor in Chico that made me call and book Avalon immediately after I hung up. This wedding vendor asked which photographers I was considering, and when I listed Avalon, she said that she had gotten married herself just the year before, and hired Avalon to do her wedding. As a wedding vendor in the area, she is familiar with many of the local photographers, and said that Steve is the best. So I called him right away to book him. I am VERY happy I did so! Steve at Avalon did my engagement shoot and wedding photos. For the services he offers, he is very affordable. The other photographer, Alicia, who helped shoot the wedding, also did an amazing job. They are both extremely kind people, and very professional. They had lots of tricks to get people to smile and laugh genuinely, and captured so many sweet and funny candid moments. Also, I can't say enough about the lighting--the lighting in the photos was incredible! They knew exactly where to position everyone down to the inch in order to work the setting to the best advantage. I have gotten so many comments from guests saying, "Wow--your photographer was so good!" or "They really knew what they were doing!" The way she conducts calls as well as her intake form, is so thorough; you can tell that she really wants to get to know each couple, their story, and capture things perfectly (which she does!). Our engagement shoot was one of the most fun afternoon/evenings we had in planning our wedding. Ashley helped keep things light and fun for us even though we don't take pictures often and even included our dog! We loved the photos so much we ended up adding her to capture our Welcome Party too! Doesn't seem to care about finished product…read more Sadly, we've seen this company for our youth football and youth wrestling teams for the last several seasons on Picture Day. Every year, the product we receive is a little worse than the one before. For this football season, Mark Thau was once again selected as the photographer of choice. What we got, after once again buying a decent size package, was a photo that: 1. looked photoshopped, 2. had huge, dark shadows on the side of our son's profile, and 3. was SO much darker than other people's photos that it felt like they used an exposure level to 'test' their set up on our photo. We are extremely disappointed in the product we got. We let them know that in an email two days ago; no response. When it comes time for our youth football board to select a photographer again next year, count me as one of the 'no' votes. Poor result, disinterested customer service. Overall, not worth the prices they charge.
