Sheehans is the best restaurant in Augusta. The owner John is always out hanging with the customers and most of the people are regulars which is a good thing. The honey lacquered duck with the grits and green beans are unreal! Not only is the food great but it has a fantastic bar with a great draft selection, great wine list and great selection of good liquor. My step daughter told us to try Sheehans but I thought it was typical Irish food which I'm not overly fond of. It's not Irish cuisine but it is amazing. I had the Ginger Soy Tuna and my husband had the Chili Shrimp and Grits cake and shrimp appetizers One of the best meals I've ever had. Will be back. read more

My husband and I recently moved to the Summerville area and have been waiting to try this place. We are both fans of Irish food and couldn't believe our luck of moving within walking distance of an Irish pub! Well...so much for that. This place is not the least bit Irish. And no, it does make up for that in amazing food. Very average meal for a big price. The mussel appetizer was good but it ends there. The choice of food is severely limited to seafood and grits pretty much. The fish and chips for close to $20 is the same meal you could purchase at Captain Ds. I will give the place points for excellent bartenders and curteous staff though. It's a pitty that that's all they have going for them in my book. read more

I agree with Brian K that this is the best restaurant in Augusta. I have not been in town long so there are a few suggested places that I have yet to try e.g. Frog Hollow, or something called "The Bistro" (not sure which bistro it is), but I'm a strong believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and to say I'm a creature of habit is an understatement (there might be a stool dedicated to me at Brasserie V in Madison, WI). I've been to Sheehan's twice now and plan to return as often as my budget will allow. I would actually apply for a job there in the kitchen but I honestly don't think my culinary skills are where they need to be to keep up with this chef. There has only been one thing that I wasn't thrilled about, but I think that was my fault, not the chef's. Let's start with the appetizers. I've ordered the mussels both times because they were so spectacular my first experience, I had to get them again. I was not disappointed. Even my two year old daughter was popping them like candy. There was definitely a bit of cream added to the sauce which obviously contributed to its rich enticing flavor, but hey, I had a salad later so it cancels out the cream, right? The mussels were served with soft bread which was just the right texture to slurp up the extra juice. They get a 10 out of 10. Then came the green salad, which to me, is sort of like getting chicken right. Sure you can bread it and throw it in the deep fryer and it'll be tasty, but getting it absolutely perfect to where something so simple and inexpensive becomes elegant and gourmet, is an art form. Sheehan's has mastered it. If I'm not mistaken, there were greens, mandarin oranges, candied pecans and a sweet vinaigrette. That's it. It was perfect. Now the entree. I had ordered the pork, cheese grits and collard greens last time. This is where I went wrong. The pork was cooked perfectly, so as I said before, it was no mistake by the chef. I just don't know why I ordered it. I don't like grits and I don't like collard greens. This time, I knew what to do. I ordered the blackened catfish, topped with krill in a cajun sauce (I subbed mashed potatoes for grits... sorry Chef for tweaking your menu, but I just can't force the grits). Amazing. You can't go wrong with this entree. I do, however, like more veggies with my food so I just ate the snow peas off my mom's plate. I don't think the chef needed to add anything to this dish. If you want more veggies, just order them elsewhere or take them off your co-diner's plate. For dessert, the chocolate gooey cake with ice cream and strawberries. Just decadent. If every chef/cook in the world took as much thought and consideration into their product as Sheehan's, hell, if every person approached their job like this Chef obviously approaches his, the world would be a much more satisfied place. Bravo. And just to add to the ambience, every patron there was beautiful, well-dressed and classy, and our server was a doll who was on top of her game. I can't wait to go back. read more

What a restaurant... Atmosphere and food is one thing (which is already amazing) but our waitress Stella made us feel over the top welcome. First off, she took the time to remember our parents names before my fiancé and I got there which speaks volumes but she went above and beyond taking care of our table and made the special requests possible. Holy cow why hadn't I gone here earlier??? Really enjoyed the swordfish special they had going. I don't think anyone out of the party of 15 I was with had any complaints about their food. It is really noisy so it's not the best for conversation. With the delicious and large portions in front of you it won't really matter. It was cool to eat on what used to not be part of the restaurant as there is a tree growing in the middle of the place. Not great for kids. read more

I am an Augusta native who currently lives in Atlanta. Sheehan's is my absolute favorite local restaurant to visit when I am in town. My two favorite menu items are the shrimp and grits and the filet. They are incredible! The owner, John, uses a big green egg grill that helps get that nice, smoky, flavor. He may occasionally have a few rib eyes so you can always ask even if it is not featured on the menu. The atmosphere is very social. It is one of those know no stranger spots and can get noisy. It can accomodate two people or a big group of 12. You literally cannot go wrong ordering anything! Everything is top quality and cooked to perfection. The presentation of the meal is also impressive. I always have fun when I go and definitely satisfy my taste buds and stomach. I also leave the right amount of full. The wines and cocktails are also just what the doctor ordered, again you can't go wrong. I get excited to visit just as an excuse to come here. Watch out though-- it definitely gets SLAMMED during Masters Week. You may want to make a reservation. Yes, it is expensive $$$, but you will not regret it!! read more

The wife and I went for birthday dinner with a large group of 15+ diners. We were seated in the enclosed patio, very spacious and air conditioned. Never been to this restaurant before but was told it was a bit fancy and Irish. Except for the Scottish (?) eggs appetizer special I didn't see a lot on the menu that was Irish. The menu was limited to one page and full of a variety of protein choices, which I liked. There was another page of wine selections but no beer menu. Our server was able to list every beer available but I like a physical list so I can choose new flavors as I'm eating. We started with the Maine diver scallops over gnocchi for an appetizer. For $7 dollars you got two scallops (which were exceptionally fresh) and a whole lot of tomato and potato. My wife ordered the shrimp and grits($19) and this was quite tasty. I ordered the laquered duck with Stilton grits ($21). I received several slices of duck breast and a drumstick and it really hit the spot. The grits tasted vaguely cheesy but not Stilton. As the evening progressed and daylight diminished it became very dark in our dining area. There was no overhead lighting and very few candles on the table. We received our check and it was a handwritten total preceded by nearly invisible printed individual charges with no description so it was hard to see if we were charged correctly. Also, on our ticket and other diners as well was a $2.12 charge for something, maybe for the waters we all received. I'd eat at Sheehan's again just for the duck alone which is hard to find done right in the Augusta area. I'm not sure about the value for the money and it's not quite upscale dining for the prices charged. For that I'd probably go to Frog Hollow and get charged the same amount but get a much more polished dining experience. read more

Wow. The place completely blew out my expectations. Coming from Boston, "Irish Pubs" are very common. They are supposed to be dirty, cheap, rowdy and great beers. Sheehan's was nothing like it. It was pricey, upscale, clean, and great fancy food. I think this is more of an Irish Pub "concept" or maybe an Irish "restaurant". Not what I usually expect out of a "pub". (Prior to Masters Week- a 5 star restaurant) I've really enjoyed my previous experiences at Sheehan's. It's hard finding this quality of food in the area, which is why I completely don't mind the drive over or the fact that's it's only open for a portion of the week. The duck is a particular favorite of everyone's. So to address the fact that I took time out of my day to write this review, I need to say that I feel slightly jilted today. My boyfriend and I did what we usually do and made a reservation the day before and came in for dinner on Wednesday (today). The first thing I noticed, even before I sat down, was that the usual menus were a different color. Upon closer inspection I saw that the menu items were different and sadly, one of my favorite appetizers (the chili fried shrimp something or other) was taken off along with a few other things. Which was completely fine by me, I mean like I said, the food is all good here so I can't complain. What surprised me next though was the price change for everything. The catfish which usually costed $19, was now freaking $29! That is completely ridiculous. Anyways, I usually get the duck which is around $22 but was listed at $33 or something so I decided to get the catfish because I've never had it and was now the lesser of two evils in my opinion. My boyfriend loves their salmon (which was also overpriced by about 10 dollars) so he chose that. When we got our food my boyfriend immediately noted that the proportion of salmon was noticeably smaller, and I began to wonder if my admittedly meager fillet of catfish was also cut down from the usual. That's when I became annoyed. Not only was everything overpriced, I guess the owners decided that wasn't good enough so they also cut back on portions. Not cool. I usually pay for an appetizer and 2 entrees for about $50 something dollars, but everything ended up being $20 extra. Ridiculous and unneeded in my opinion. read more

The food is pretty good but if you're looking for an Irish pub experience, this is not the place for you. There are very few authentically Irish pub fares on the menu, unless Vietnamese egg rolls or Chinese style Dumplings are Irish. It's more restaurant than pub. I found the service, food and staff to be very good if not exceptional. The reason for the 3 stars as opposed to a higher rating was the availability and location of seating but for most the cost. As indicated everyone in the party was pleased with the experience but this is not New York , LA or Washington so the cost was excessive for the location and menu. read more

Great selection of draft beers. Food is good, staff attentive. I'm withholding one star because the noise level in the main area of the restaurant/ bar is unbearable, making it impossible to enjoy what could be an otherwise nice atmosphere. I don't know if the din can be improved through the installation of sound absorbing materials but I had to converse by nearly yelling to other members of our group. There is another seating area upstairs but it isn't as comfortable depending on the outside temperature. Space heaters are used in that area for heat. read more
