South West Ireland has no shortage of great locations for sight-seeing, provided you have the transport to get yourself out there. I recently took a drive down to the Sheep's Head, which is one of a few peninsulas down south. Google Maps haven't been yet so it can only be found by asking for directions locally and following road signs after you leave Bantry...but I gotta tell you, if you are into getting off the beaten track, do make the effort. On a clear day, it is a hell of a drive. The roads are long and winding, and the ocean and mountain views are jaw-dropping. When you finally make it to the Sheep's Head itself, you will find a 30 minute, well-maintained walking trail that will take you right out to the edge where there is an old lighthouse. Even on clear days, plan for the weather to turn, so take a rain-jacket...and the wind is strong enough to whisk you into the air like a kite at some points! But you'll not regret having gone that extra mile to view the beauty of one of Ireland's most south-westerly viewing points. read more
