It's so exhilerating to view the fishing villages below with their ships tethered at docks or out on the water on one side while on the other sheep graze and houses nestle into the rolling green hills. The air is especially fresh. If ever you find yourself blessed with a beautiful day, stop here along your tour of the Ring of Kerry. You'll be amazed.

It was great to experience so much history with the many artifacts and the "talk" by Honourable Desmond Guinnes, on the works of the Irish Georgian Society. The garden's and spaces around the house were very amazing and its worth climbing the 100 steps in the garden area. As a photographer, I found many places to photograph in and around the house and gardens. My room was luxurious and overlooked the garden. Breakfast was awesome and made to order. At night you can enjoy a beverage at the "honor bar" and sit and visit with the owners. I couldn't have asked for anything more and I would certainly stay there again if I am fortunate to return back to Ireland.

There is a small island in the middle that looks like something out of the lord of the rings or he hobbit. The less than single lane road is quite the adventure but it is about 5 k off the main road. Was told to meander a bit on the out-of-the-way Beara Ring and then go to the other side of the mountains using Healy Pass. Well, I missed the pass road and found an obscure sign for Josie's Lake View House and Tearoom. So, well, I had to go discovering. Josie's is the REASON I travel. I want to find out-of-the-way treasures that safe travelers always miss. Josie's is the real deal. It is on a mountain lake (Glanmore) and it appears that time just passed it by. No one there on a summer afternoon. The deals were Beef Wellington @ 15 euros and Lamb BBQ @ 14 euros. Hey this was good and inexpensive for the area. Later, going over the Healy Pass road, I looked down on the lake and Josie's. These are the experiences worth every dime of a vacation.

And Sheila was one of the nicest, warmest people I met in Ireland. We got an opportunity to have a once in a lifetime experience through a friend's relative, and I'm not sure who was more excited, us or Sheila! When we asked for advice on our travel plans, she was eager to help and advise on what plan made most sense considering the weather, roads, etc. The beds were soft and comfy and the breakfasts were delicious! I'm so glad that we got to stay there for several days.
