Lansdowne is part of the Small Luxury Hotels (SLH). Long story short. They should not be part of…read morethe SLH. My stay here makes be reluctant to stay at SLH folio hotels in the future. Hopefully SLH reevaluates and makes them improve or removes them. This is by no means a luxury hotel. Especially the rooms. This is more in line with what you would expect at a cheaper B&B. It's like they spent all their money in the common areas and did a cheap flip in the rooms. NOTHING about the rooms speaks luxury let alone a nice hotel or even above average for that matter. For better or worse I stay at nicer hotels 80-90 nights a year. My review comes from that perspective. Price was close to 260 euros a night at time of booking. I would recommend staying at one of the many rooms above pubs in the area that are both nicer and cheaper. Pros. Great location. Nice seating area in common area. Cons. Rooms. Nothing nice to say except they were clean. Not even a single bad painting on the wall. Bathrooms. Shower was claustrophobic at best. Breakfast. Area was absolute chaos. Could not accommodate number of guests in hotel. Service. No one at front desk for over 10 minutes for checkout at 7:30 am. Had to leave keys and leave.

We enjoyed watching a game of Irish football at the bar. A few Guinness later we were cheering on Kerry like we had been lifelong fans. We look forward to our return

Fuchsia Cottage is a rental, traditional Irish cottage located a few miles outside of Kenmare…read moreIreland. Fuchsia Cottage is owned and managed by Maria and Joop Duyn who live right next door and also operate a furniture refinishing enterprise between the two houses. Fuchsia Cottage rents by the week and is simply a wonderful place. Maria and Joop have the place outfitted beautifully with everything a weekly renter could need. They also have Fuchsia listed on-line through TripAdvisor in a very convenient web-based reservation site. You can see the exact weeks that it rents for, and the rates which vary by the time of year. We were lucky enough to find Fuchsia available for the 6 days we were going to be in Kenmare. This was our third trip to Ireland but we had never rented a self-catering house before. There are tons available in this area, but this one was a real value. Fuchsia has a single bedroom downstairs, steps upstairs, a large and fully equipped kitchen / breakfast room with a fantastic view of Kenmare Bay. There is also a nice living / sitting room downstairs along with a hall bathroom. Upstairs you will find a main bedroom with a double/queen bed and a twin in one room (with a baby bed that can be added), a bathroom with shower, and a second bedroom with twin beds. Everything was spotless and we really enjoyed our stay. One of the best things was that Fuchsia has free WIFI available through a DSL connection over in Maria and Joop's house and with a remote WIFI router in Fuchsia. My wife and I travel with 5 WIFI enabled devices at our disposal and they all connected and operated just the way they should - Wonderful !!! We have no complaints at all about Fuchsia or Maria's management. We found the restaurants in Kenmare to be expensive for eating every night so my wife did cook at Fuchsia Cottage about half of the nights (a real money saver!). The kitchen had everything we needed beyond our food. In a self catering house like Fuchsia, you pay for your own utilities by comparing the meters when you arrive to when you leave. We lived pretty much as we would here in the States and it cost us about 25 euros for electricity and gas on top of the weekly rent. The only issue that we would raise with future potential renters is that the steps up to the second floor were somewhat steeper than one might normally find in a conventional stairs. Young children might have some trouble managing them alone. However, that is our only caution. We both felt that you could not do better than Fuchsia. The view was beautiful right through the windows, there was an outside sitting / picnic area and charcoal grill. It could be somewhat hard to find Fuchsia since it is on a small side street one one of the main roads out to Barra Peninsula on the road out of Kenmare , but their GPS coordinates brought us directly to the door. Thank you Maria and Joop..... Now if you could have gotten Mother Nature to give us some rain-free days, it would have been perfect !!!

I am just after a great week in Kenmare Co. Kerry. We booked a cottage throught Kenmarerentals.com,…read moreat first i thought it was another one of these agencies, but it was only when I booked that i realised that all the Houses were owner by Jer Foley. Firstly we had no problem booking the house, the web site is well laid out and you can book online safely, and you get your confirmations etc, so it takes the ease out of reserving and phoning for confirmations. We booked the Ardmullen 3 bed house , there was 5 of us and it was perfect, the houses are well laid out, all modern and well finished, so it became a Home away from Home for the 2 weeks. The house is less than 10 mins walk into the town centre, so it is perfect if you fancy a pint, and easy to walk Home afterwards. We had a great time in Kenmare, it must have been 15 years since I have been in Kerry, but Kenmare was a great base, as there is plenty to do and see there. Jer was a pleasure to deal with, and even the last night he called to the house, to see was all o.k, it was a nice touch especially since he works so hard, as well as the houses he has a very busy Bar & Guesthouse in the town centre. When he called we were just talking and i said that it is a pity that we are going home tomorrow, all jer said was ' when are you back to work ' and i told him that i was back the week after, and all he said was that he did not need the house for 2 days and we were welcome to stay on, we did at no charge ( well i think we were lucky as the other guests were not arriving until 2 days later ), but it was nice, i can highly reccomend Kenmarerentals.com as there Holiday Homes / sel catering are the best we have stayed in so far. The best thing was that myself and my wife stayed until Thursday, as Jer reserved a room for us in the Guesthouse, O Donnabhains on Henry Street, really nice. With all that is happening in the Irish economy, it was jice to get a way and relax, and feel relaxed going Home. We are booked again for Chirstmas and New Years, and cant wait to get back, even now with the roads it only took us just about 4.5 hours from Dublin, so it is not the end of the world any more. treat yourself and go
