Recently attended a wedding here and I must say that I was quite impressed! I have been here before but for a boy scout event. So totally different. Pulling up, we were impressed by the beautiful building. The outside is gorgeous and there is a park out back for pictures. The parking lot is quite big, and the front entrance has a lot of steps. Be advised, however, there is a hidden back entrance with an elevator. So if you can't do stairs (or your feet are killing you, know that there is that option. When you go through the front, the banquet centers are right there. If you go through the back, you pass a lot of staff suites etc. Entering the banquet center, you are immediately struck by the beauty of the lay out and elegant ambiance. They had a cocktail hour with champagne and hors d'oeuvres. There is a bar with two bartenders. The food was served family style and was absolutely delicious! We had rolls and salad, pasta, chicken, brats, green beans, roasted potatoes and a delicious breaded and pan seared chicken in a lemon gravy. Superb! We had pizza toward the end of the evening. Absolutely fabulous night. I would recommend this center for your next big event. read more

So I was in the wedding party ... ordering drinks for the table ... bartender was flirting with an old gentleman ( which I thought was adorable) and I simply requested a drink. Didn't cut them off, (as far I am concerned they could've done the dirty behind the bar and I would t have cared) , she gave me my drink, proceeded to tell the groom I was cut off and was aggressive. Don't know where this bartender got this from. My only assumption is that I cock blocked her as this was the result. Food great, bartenders horrible. Would not recommend. read more

I wanted to give a better review. I had hoped our wedding day experience would warrant that. We had our wedding here in September of 2017. When we first booked the venue (did ceremony and reception here) it was great. We worked with Michelle and she was super accommodating, answered all of our questions, emails, etc. Once we got closer to the date it started to go downhill. We'd email and not have a reply. I'd have to send another inquiry or my now husband would have to call and get an answer. We weren't thrilled with how they did the tastings- they only offer them quarterly & you have to pay. IMO the bride and groom should be free. I understand charging if more people are in attendance, but we were spending $8k with them and to not provide an included tasting really turned me off. We missed the first one we were invited to because it was on a Friday evening and we had about two weeks notice- my husband works in a bar/restaurant and works weekends. We asked about the next date and they couldn't tell us. We asked what would happen if we couldn't make it and they said they could provide us with a carryout from someone elses event. I wasn't thrilled with that answer, either. We had never tried the food and when we explained this, Tricia said "you have plenty of time". Well, I am a planner. I did not want to be deciding my menu two weeks before my wedding when you have enough going on! She was also super condescending in several of her interactions with me and in return I was snippy. I have never had an event there. I don't know how they work things and if a bride has a question, even if it's "stupid" to you, if should be answered kindly and not as if it's an inconvenience that she asked. We did make the second tasting and it was not good. We were really concerned because now we were very close to the wedding and kind of just had to go with it. The buffet on the wedding day, however, was excellent. We got rave reviews from guests and it was MUCH better. I didn't get to try the hot app we had (toasted raviolis) but the late night pizza was AWFUL. My husband wrote to them to let them know and they never even replied to offer an apology. A few other notes... When we came for rehearsal we were not greeted. Lights in the room were off and we had to fend for our selves. I came the next day to set up (again, no greeting!) and noticed that several linens were stained & ripped, some linens were missing as well as one table, and the bar was FILTHY. I asked it be taken care of and we were told the person who would "fix" it wasn't there. The day of no one greeted us, yet again. We were to have a head waitress/waiter and did not. I spilled my vase at the head table and there was no one around to get an extra napkin from. We were told there would be two bartenders, we had one. The DJ didn't need the table they provided and someone was suppose to come get it, they did not and my father had to carry it up stairs in his tux. They were suppose to light all the candles for us and after the ceremony I noticed half the room was not lit. We had to even provide lighters for them (and I had) so that wasn't the reason... I had a friend do the left side of the room, but the memory candle never got lit. Some of the linens I noted were still dirty. Overall I was highly disappointed in the staff. No one said anything to any of us (except the bartender, Robert- he was great) the entire night. I was never asked if I needed anything, etc. I didn't even tip them because I was so disappointed! I wouldn't recommend them for a wedding to anyone I know. It's sad because the place is lovely and the food was good when it did matter. read more

So, I just had my wedding reception there and here are the pros and cons to help anyone that is a wedding reception at Shelby Gardens. I will start off with the bad: There is very poor communication, specifically when emailing, which one would think would be easy. It was so bad I had to have my husband call them to get a straight answer. When emailing I would provide information and ask questions like a normal customer would in planning a big event and would get a different person every time resulting in having to repeat information and getting different answers to one question. I was told through one of the email messages that they only work on commission and only have a small piece of paper to write down information since the computer system hasn't been updated to input appointments or notes on. If we were actually communicating with one person or even two people, it would have been less stressful and a different review altogether on yelp as I believe the most important component with planning an event is communication. I also found lacking was flexibility when requesting a little time change of 15min when our buffet was placed considering we weren't being served it on a plate and it was on hot pans. They eventually allowed it but that added stress when we were told because we had first pick at the time for dinner it would cause problems for the other parties. Also changing a room, which I understand is pretty difficulty or at least that's what they made it sound like, but I saw that they were able to do it for another customer with the same date from a smaller to bigger room. The chair covers need to be looked at more closely. I know we just had plain white chair covers, but I saw some had stains and were torn and pretty much not a welcoming sight for such a lovely place. The good: The food was excellent. Everyone loved it and we certainly enjoyed it. We took beautiful pictures outside as there is a lovely little water fall stream with a bench to set a perfect scene for pictures as well as inside with the uplifting lights, we had around the room made for a fun atmosphere. They do have a very beautiful venue as people were impressed when walking inside. However, it could have been better as mentioned above. So, for those that are planning a wedding there I would throw caution your way just from my experience. read more

I recently wrote a one star review of Shelby Gardens. The management responded and accused me of falsely bashing businesses based on my review history. Why would I waste my time writing false reviews? I took the time to write a real review to save other people from wasting their money. I took the time to write a real review to save other people from putting their heart and soul into an event that would most likely prove to be lack-luster if booked at Shelby Gardens. The food really was terrible. The guest next to me really pulled a piece of packaging plastic out of his mouth from his serving of overcooked ravioli. The soup was really over salted. Platters of uneaten food really were eventually removed from our table. The people at our table really couldn't tell if it was coffee or tea in the carafes brought to our table. It was THAT BAD! My husband and I were guests at the gathering. It was not my place at the time to complain to the 3 waitstaff people designated to our party, who by the way seemed like they were borrowed from a different event as we were not served our meal until after 8 pm. If I had hosted the gathering, you would have heard me loud and clear. Hopefully my honest review of Shelby Garden Banquet Center will help someone eliminate what they are NOT looking for. read more

I went for a tour and I was profiled, the ladies kept bringing up cost and how expensive it would be to rent their hall. When asked about catering I inquired about outside catering. The employee stated "our Carter makes bar b q" their initial stance was to just show me the room in the basement in hopes that I would be comfortable with the smaller space. When I inquired about the bigger space I got A LOT of push back. Honestly they were nice but just seemed uneducated on what to say and what not to say. read more

I'm delayed on this review only because I have been so conflicted. I hosted my sisters bridal shower at this venue. This place was great to work with initially, both Tricia and Michelle were very accommodating and helpful, they communicated quickly. However on the date of the shower I had a lot of concerns. We payed for about 110 people and due to some date changes we only had about 80 people show up to the event. We had ordered kids meals separately and for some reason that was not ready. Which is odd because we actually didn't serve food till almost an hour after what we had set the time. So it just looked like they forgot. The food at this venue is amazing though every guest had raving reviews on the Rollotini and the chicken limon - both came highly recommended from michelle. My Second complaint is the dessert. I opted to just have the dessert at a table instead of at each table and there was barely any to feed 40 people (that's after I brought a few of our own desserts of macarons, mini cupcakes, and baklava) - when I mentioned this to Tricia she said there should be 1.5 pieces per person. All I know is that it was all gone after 1/4 of our guests went to the dessert table. Aside from these things it's a beautiful venue - hopefully the construction is all done by now. They told us it'd be done for our event and it certainly wasn't even close. So lessons learned: bring your own dessert. And keep on them about the things you paid for! read more

The worse service and food was so disgusting! I wouldn't even feed it to my dog. The air conditioner was off and only had the fan going but there was another event happening next door and they had air conditioning on. The waitstaff was so unprofessional and extremely rude. Drinks were horrible as well and watered down! Had drinks spilled on me twice by waitstaff. BUT PLEASE DO NOT GO THERE! THE FOOD WAS LITERALLY SO DISGUSTING I CAN'T EVEN EXPLAIN IT TO YOU! Management was the worse too! Will never ever go there ever again!!!! They should all take courses in how to manage a banquet hall, how to train their waitstaff and bartenders and most of all get new cooks that know what they are doing!!!! read more

DO NOT SELECT THIS VENUE! I want to say that this place is one of the worst managed banquet halls. Their customer service and follow up is non existent. If you end up selecting this place make sure you follow up with them because they will NEVER call you for updates on any steps for your event. I feel it all stems from their Event Manager Tricia. Thank you so much to Angie and Rachel for helping us out with my daughters bridal shower. Because of Covid we had changed the original date to a few weeks later. Well, you guessed things shut down again. The ladies offer a couple of different options and because we didn't want to change the date again we opted for the catering. Everything worked out wonderful. We were able to rent a few things we needed and they also let us borrow a few things. The groomsmen went and picked up the food (only bummer there, but it did give them something to do). The food came hot and ready to go in chafing dishes. Everyone loved the food. Big, big shout out also to Angie and Ryan the 2 of you were wonderful! Everyone were very impressed with what you did and how they were treated. We had my son and His fiancé's bridal shower there. It is a beautiful facility, however, my son and his fiancé both follow a vegan diet, my future daughter in law is sensitive to dairy, to the point she requires medication. They eat absolutely no dairy! We explained this to the staff and they assured us it would be no problem. They were served a pasta with garden veggies, and assured it was prepared in olive oil. My son ate about half of it, he thought it tasted strange but because there were so many people he didn't make a fuss. When I saw his plate I asked him why they put butter on his pasta. He said he thought it tasted funny and he had been in the restroom immediately after eating it, but they again assured him it was olive oil. Sorry, we are Italian and cook with olive oil all of the time! It was absolutely butter. When I brought it to the attention of the manager, he proceeded to argue with me in the middle of dinner, and even said he was going to get the chef. I told him absolutely not during our event! He is extremely unprofessional!! This was only a shower, thank goodness the wedding is elsewhere! I would NOt recommend this place! Also, after posting this review, I started receiving demeaning messages...again, not very professional Shelby Gardens!! It is the biggest day of most people's lives and I would never chance it with a location that is so unprofessional! read more

Beautiful venue for weddings or receptions. Went to a engagement party here and the location and shuttle service was great. The only issue was that the sound system did not work for the slide show and the bathroom is extremely cold. Lighting and dance floor are perfect for large crowds. The waiting staff were prepared for crowds and were friendly. The service was amazing. The pictures might be dark so go with a high quality photographer. The lighting where guest are seated makes pictures a little dark. There is a bar that splits two sides of the room from the stage so some few isolated from the other side of the room. However, the dance floor is where these sides meet. The beams can obstruct guests views so be careful about seating arrangements. Overall, large space with great staff makes this place a winner. read more

Had my engagement party here last weekend - staff is great! They were all so nice and were willing to accommodate my needs :) They let me cater from another restaurant and there are a lot of options nearby for decor. They also let us come view the room whenever we wanted and the setup for my event began the day before. Only reason for 4 stars is the room we had was a long rectangle and it was hard for the guests to see the middle and the room was a bit dark, but other than that, the place was great! Would definitely have an event here again :) read more

I have only been to Shelby Gardens one time, and it was for a memorial luncheon. The room that we were and was just up the stairs and to the right when you enter. The outside is really nice, as the name gives away there is a garden area which would be beautiful for pictures if you were therefore an event that called for it. Parking was pretty easy to and there is a big clean lot. As for the rooms themselves like I sad I only saw 1 roomthat held about 25 tables of 8. It had a large buffet line and open bar. The bartenders seemed to be nice the waiters and waitress is we're pretty on top of helping clear tables and bring dishes over, but they did seem very anxious to take food plates away from you even if you had just started eating. So you might have to be mindful of that if this is a place that you were looking into booking. Other than that the set up was great and from what I understand they were very easy to work with in the sales department. The food we had was also delicious and they kept it coming out constantly if something ran out. Was a very nice place to have this type of luncheon at. read more

We held our son's wedding wedding shower here Oct. 1st. We had about 120 guests and ordered the chicken picante, ham, green beans and Parmesan potatoes. All the food was very good. The service was even better. We arrived very early to set up and decorate. Dorothy, a member of the staff was coming to work and insisted in wanting to help us unload the cars even before she had gotten into work. Then we were greeted inside by Martin who offered to help us with any and all things through out our entire event. The food servers were all very young but incredibly accommodating. EVERY guest without fail commented to us afterwards about how nice and helpful they were. As nice as they could possibly be. We can be demanding of our wishes and can be very particular. Shelby Gardens made us very happy and we look forward to the next opportunity to use there services again. read more

We researched many venues for our wedding reception, from restaurant banquet rooms, to full banquet halls. We were all set to reserve another banquet hall which had a set price per plate, however everything else was extra (i.e. Bar service, bartender, meat carver, soda, desserts, etc.). As I was driving home from work the evening before we were to put our deposit down, I drove past Shelby Gardens which had their number on their marquee. I decided to call them even though it was 6:30 in the evening and no one would likely be there. The phone rang and, like I anticipated, my call went to voicemail. I didn't leave a message because I was sure that a banquet facility as nice as them would be way out of our budget. 30 seconds later, I got a callback. The nice lady on the phone said that she saw that I called and, using caller ID, called me back. I thanked her and told her what I was thinking. I mentioned that we were going to put down a deposit on a hall in the morning but was curious as to the options and prices Shelby Gardens offered. Much to my surprise, the options and prices were MUCH better than any other restaurant and/or hall we had contacted! The price per plate was less and almost EVERYTHING was included... and then some! Full Bar! Champaign and hors d'oeuvrs! Desserts! We quickly decided to postpone with the other hall until we could meet with Shelby Gardens and decide. We set up a meeting and then a tasting and soon put down a deposit! Our wedding reception was handled with the utmost care and precision! The food was excellent (every guest complimented us on the food)! The room was gorgeous and the staff was stellar! From beginning to end, our experience was wonderful and memorable! I booked this banquet for my daughters wedding . I had everything paid in advance but my daughter ended up calling off the wedding ... The hall manager (trish ) informed us that there was no refund so we decided to have an anniversary party to use the money invested !!! All though the food was great and the floor servers as well .. The bar tender was a complete failure !!! I paid for a premium bar and the liquor selection was NOT premium !! Then a half an hour before last call she preceded to fill our guests drinks with straight mixers !! I called upon the manager on duty and literally had to make a scene and raise his voice to make the only bartender we had all night to do her job properly !!! This place was great as the monte carlo with two previous parties from us but the new management is far from professional and I will be going elsewhere for future parties !! I see this place going under within the year !!! Save your self alot of stress and unhappy guests and go elsewhere !!!! Update 9/2/2015 Dear Shelby - its nice to see you care enough to reply and I completely understand the no refund policy and furthermore appreciate Trish working with us to rebook . Your bartender assigned to my party was Mary and she was completely terrible !! I had multiple complaints of her bad attitude and then cutting my service before she should have ! I understand their training to identify a person whom has consumed too much alcohol and to stop serving them . There was one person that was was un this condition and I personally told her not to serve him but that was it !! Everyone else at the party were responsible drinkers and acted as such ! Your employee even argued with your manager to the extent that a scene was caused . I too am an employer and if one of my employees acted this way , they would be terminated on the spot for there insubordination toward management . Trish did a fine job and your floor servers were amazing but the bartender ruined our special evening with her attitude and her bad decisions ! We ran out of lemons half way through the party and even ran out of some alcohol choices !! I paid your full price for 150 people and only had 100 attending because if the change in venue and still were limited ??? Im sorry to say sir , that without change i see you failing in your buyout of the monte carlo . I attended two other parties in august at your hall , both on Saturdays with it being the only party that evening . That should tell you something right there !! We just hosted my daughter's wedding here, and I cannot say enough good things about this venue and the people who run it! The renovations are completed and the hall and chandeliers are beautiful. Tricia, Michelle and Martin were a joy to work with. I called Michelle so often I joked she should be on my Christmas card list! But each time, she was gracious and helpful. The food was outstanding-all the guests raved about it. And the sweet and fruit table was, to quote many guests, "the best I have seen anywhere!" We chose family style and the service was marvelous. Everyone was served in a timely manner. Obviously, I would highly recommend this venue! read more
