I drove to shell and when I walked in I saw a young African American male and a 20-30 something year old lady at the counter. I came in and smiled and asked for an application. The woman (Whom I later found out was Cynthia, looked at me like I had shot on my shirt. It was the young man who assisted me and gave me the application to fill out. I went to an empty counter to fill out my application and when I was finished there was another different cashier on duty. Cynthia was no where to be found. I asked to speak with a manager , since I was already there and filled out an application. This lady went to her office and SHUT THE DOOR!! She knew I was there for a possible interview. The new cashier had to coax her out to speak with me. She fed me a bunch of bullshit and stated she would get back with me. My resume and application shows that I have experience working at gas stations and mini marts. I think I was just rude for her to be a manager, never introduce herself, then go to her office and shut the door, knowing someone was seeking a job. I don't know what they are looking for ,but a month later they had another add stating "Shell in Torrey Pines is "STILL"hiring. Being a manager, you should judge by work experience, not because they don't have the "look"you're attracted to.

I hate leaving bad reviews but I did have an experience where after being parked for a couple…read moreminutes (maybe 4-7 minutes) I had an attendant startle me by walking up to my window, they looked to be cleaning near my pump but when I came inside because the gas pump's card reader wasn't working, they informed me you can't be sitting out there. It may seem like an overreaction but I've had bad experiences with people coming up to my window (specifically at a gas station) and it made me very anxious/reminded me of that. Although this gas is a great deal (I even drove further to go to this one), I won't be getting gas here unless that policy changes. I would be more understanding if it had been a ridiculous amount of time like 30 minutes (which I still don't think should matter), but if 5-7 minutes is a problem they should put up a sign that says "no sitting in your car for ____ minutes". That way if someone needs time, at least they know it's not preferable at this location and don't have to deal with unpleasant interactions. I'm not blaming the attendant if they're just doing what they're told but I hope they reconsider that policy or add a sign if it's a problem. Often times I'm paid through other methods (cash app/Apple Pay etc.) so sometimes it takes a few minutes to transfer it to my account so I can purchase gas so it would be helpful to know in advance if that's looked down upon. I'd change the review to 5 if that changes to be fair, I'm not trying to be rude or unfair, I just don't want anyone else feeling that anxiety. I understand why they wouldn't expect it to cause such strong feelings.

Clairemont Auto is thankfully open on Saturdays! I didn't have an appointment. Was greeted almost as quickly as I got out of the car and was in & out within an hour. I remember it was busy for them then too. I came back again today for another oil change + a smog. I had originally called a couple days ago to check on appointment availability & if they carried/used my preferred oil. The guy who answered (forgot to ask his name ‍) was extremely friendly & patient. Answered all my questions & gave solid advice. I'll admit I was pre coffee scatter brained today + I had to bring a dog with me lol but all the guys were extremely patient & throughly explained everything. Again, I didn't have to make an appointment and was in & out in about an hour. These guys are quick! Their pricing is fair for the painless experience they provide. It's also nice to not get the third degree for bringing your own products. I'm genuinely bewildered how they only have 4 stars because everything from attitude, service time frames, quality of products/service, prices & professionalism are outstanding. I loved them last year, but now I'm sold. This place is most definitely going to be my regular shop. A bit of a drive for me but 100% worth it. Mechanics are honest, trustworthy & won't overcharge you or talk down to you. There was a woman dropping off her car today who was ridiculously abrasive & rude in how she spoke to them. The mechanics handled it beautifully. So yes, they deserve a high rating. You'll have to sit outside because they don't have the space for a lobby but you'll also get to see them working on your car.
