The add stated "Come by and fill out an application, interviews on the spot.Speak with Ann, or Cynthia. I drove to shell and when I walked in I saw a young African American male and a 20-30 something year old lady at the counter. I came in and smiled and asked for an application. The woman (Whom I later found out was Cynthia, looked at me like I had shot on my shirt. It was the young man who assisted me and gave me the application to fill out. I went to an empty counter to fill out my application and when I was finished there was another different cashier on duty. Cynthia was no where to be found. I asked to speak with a manager , since I was already there and filled out an application. This lady went to her office and SHUT THE DOOR!! She knew I was there for a possible interview. The new cashier had to coax her out to speak with me. She fed me a bunch of bullshit and stated she would get back with me. My resume and application shows that I have experience working at gas stations and mini marts. I think I was just rude for her to be a manager, never introduce herself, then go to her office and shut the door, knowing someone was seeking a job. I don't know what they are looking for ,but a month later they had another add stating "Shell in Torrey Pines is "STILL"hiring. Being a manager, you should judge by work experience, not because they don't have the "look"you're attracted to. read more

The pump does not stop on its own and thus overfill - in fact it burst out everywhere - on my car, cloth and floor.

I wish the station owner would read my earlier review about terrible squeegees and replace them. You cannot possibly get a clean windshield with those beat up ragged old rubber strips. Putting nice new squeegees out for your customers more often lets them know you appreciate them and care about their safety! read more

The only reason we came here was because we wanted a touch-less car wash. Just when it was our turn the guy who was entering the pin and doing the pre-wash decided to go for lunch. Found it a bit odd, wasn't anybody there to replace him. We asked him if we could come back later and he said no. We paid for a full service but didn't get it. By far the rudest attendant I have ever dealt with. I had two almost flat tires and my daughter in the car, I went in the first time to do for air AFTER getting gas and the woman said okay, 3 minutes later I go back in and ask her to turn it on and she rudely says she did then proceeds to press the turn on. Once I filled one tire I went back in to ask and saw she had a line and was with someone so I waited and then before she took someone else asked her to turn it on and she said "I'm already helping someone you can wait" which led to a verbal altercation Infront of several guest. I explained I asked before she went to the next guest that all she has to do was press a button which upset her more and her disgusting attitude worsened. I asked for the manager and she said to come back tomorrow, when I asked for the contact she said to just call the store and someone would connect me. Refused to give me her name. Not too often do I review a gas station, but this station is damn smack in the middle of beautiful La Jolla California with very reasonable gas prices for the area. That's the big upside, as everything else is down hill. There are many peeps hanging out here trying to peddling this and that and trying to wash your windows. This station is crowded due to the off brand gas station and cheap gas. it's difficult to get in and out of this station due to the stoplights. If I had to do it all over again, I would whiz on by and avoid this station altogether. Don't be lured in for the cheapo gas as I did, because there is always a price to pay. Go with a name brand gas and your car will thank you in the long run and avoid the hubbub. I would only swing in here if you are in a pinch and need a few gallons to get you down the road. read more

I love this place strictly for the car wash. They always have guys prewashing before going in and drying it a bit extra once I am out. Obviously I tip them but it comes out much more affordable than the hand washing. Also, I get a deal on gas when I fill up my tank which feels like I'm getting a deal. read more

The car wash / gas station employee used a broom to remove the thickest dirt and took a piece of paint from my car, I complained to the gas station manager who informed me that he would pass the case on to someone else in charge of dealing with this type of matter, and they never called me to solve the problem. This review is for their car wash. I have to say I will NOT drive through the do it yourself thing. I panic but the guys working it are incredible sweet and helpful. Although they won't drive your car through it, they will stop and let you out until it is washed and then get back in and drive it forward to dry it. They are so understanding. They didn't have to be so accommodating but I appreciate it so much and they do a great job. read more

HORRIBLE experience at this place!! A few days ago we (hubby, young son and myself) pulled into this location to grab some items before we went down to the beach. I kind of noticed some odd guys standing in front of the main door but they seemed like they were just employees on their break. A few minutes later my hubby comes back and and he's opening the door to get in, one of the infamous "window repair guys" cusses him out. I was so caught off guard! My husband told the guy to get away since we had our 12 month old son in the car. The guy told my husband to F*&K OFF and walked off really mad. I asked my hubby what happened and he said that the guy he figures was trying to talk to my hubby but my hubby didn't realize he was actually speaking to him until the guy began cussing at him. I was in shock! My hubby went in and told the manager what happened and her come back was "no he didn't!"... as if she was there in the parking lot when all this happened. She wasn't as she was inside the building. Needless to say we will NEVER shop there again as we live just down the street and we've decided to advise other locals against shopping there too. Don't know why but credit card doesn't work on the gas pump - you need to go inside and pay fixed amount. Inconvenient and confusing.

We came here to get gas since it was not as expensive as other places. I needed a car wash and of course paid for it while getting gas. Little did I know that the car wash was broken (no sign posted anywhere). Turns out they had kids washing the cars manually. While they did a great job, I don't think it's fair that they had to do the job of a broken machine. What should've been a $12 car wash ended up being almost $20 because we wanted to make sure they got a good tip. Next time, Shell, just post that the car wash is broken instead of making these poor kids do it. read more

Poorly situated at the intersection of the main artery into the La Jolla area this gas station's saving grace is the Starbucks seated to its north. The only gas station in the area runs the monopoly and therefore controls what visitors to the area will pay for the low quality fuel they receive. The connected mini-mart is a quick last minute stop to pick up your beach essential snacks and drinks in the event you are not familiar with the area and don't know where else you can pick up more fairly priced items. While getting into the gas station is a chore in its self, exiting the post-fuel joys presents an even more harrowing challenge. Take one wrong turn and find yourself headed back to where you came, or worse, into the abyss of the La Jolla suburbs. Trickle through the parking lot to the hidden exit, cross through the busy roadway and you may just find yourself lucky enough to be back on track for the day. read more

For being in La Jolla, their gas prices are always lower than the surrounding stations and have great customer service. For those reasons they deserve 5 stars. BUT.... I went there today after a quick Starbucks run to fill up my tank. I am one of those "fill-her-up-and-drive-off-type" of people but the the screen promoted me to go inside and "see cashier." Kind of a hastle but not a huge deal. For some reason the gas pump stopped about 5 times and I had no idea when it was really full. I was just waiting for gas to explode out of my car. Luckily I can gauge my tank pretty well and filled it perfectly full. There were some obnoxious people cleaning windows for what they called "customer appreciation day." Nice lead in people. Really. Then they proceeded to show me the rock damage on my windshield and told me they could fix it for me at no charge. A bit skeptical, I assured them it was no big deal but they insisted and assured me it would only take a quick second. Proceeded to call my insurance and my insurance provider told me I was filing a claim against my insurance. OH HELL NO. Basically I think this company was trying to "fix" my windshield by filling in where rocks had hit my window (not sure how drilling a hole to fill is helping) but all I could conclude was that they wanted to "fix" something that was not broken in the first place to have me file a claim against my insurance so they could make money and possibly cause my insurance to go up. Thankfully I trusted my instincts and told them no thanks for the 5032039th time and drove off. I don't really want to be hassled when I go get gas. This is a great gas station but need to not allow obnoxious people to get in my way! read more

Wow, I guess it shouldn't suprise me but it does! The continued saga of rude employees of stores and service departments of the city of La Jolla will never cease to amaze me! I am giving this establishment one star due to the fact that they have a sign on their refrigerator door that says 2 products XYZ for the price of XYZ. When I confronted the teller about the signal did not adhere to what it said, I replied that the sign should be fixed if it didn't mean two different products but two products of the same she was nothing but rude arrogant and had an attitude that you would not believe. I came for a car wash and asked for some help removing sap stuck to my car. Without me knowing, the employee took a razor to my car and incurred over $1,000 in damages from the scratches and damage to the paint. The employees were exceedingly rude and told me that the situation was my fault (one employee even laughed at my situation). This has become a huge nightmare... The car wash is $11.99 whether it's the mechanical drive-thru alone or augmented with worker(s) before and after with prewash brushing and postwash drying. After 6pm or so (as I was told after I bought a car wash expecting human help) you're on your own; you key in the code on the receipt yourself into the keypad stationed at the entrance to the washer building. Signs light up to tell you to enter and where to stop. There are no brushes or scrubbing in the barn; it's all spray on soap and wax and rinse and blow off. When you don't get human scrubbers and wipers to prime the wash, the result is very lame. Your car will be cleaner afterwards, but not by much. read more

The automatic shutoff was broken on March 21st, 2012 (5:44 AM) and I didn't notice it as it was cold and I was inside the car. I was watching the meter from the passenger side and I got out after the number of gallons pumped seemed to be higher than I would have expected only to see gas spewing out of the tank. The attendant had locked the doors for restocking and when I told him there was a gas spill he ignored me. When I finally shouted through the door that there was a gas spill, do you understand me, he said "yes" and went about his job. I'm very disappointed that their employees could be so irresponsible. The only thing this place has going for it is the location. Quick turn off from the main road, fill-er-up, then off to La Jolla beaches. The parking lot is a mess of conflicting messages and confused drivers trying to get gas without getting hit. The homeless reception in the morning sucks, and I don't like people coming up to me at the pump trying to sell me something or beg for booze money. I don't trust places like this with any card that is tied to my account, so I use a prepaid card. They put a $100 hold on my card which made buying lunch a lot of fun when I had no money at the register. A day later, and the money still has not been returned to my account. Never again. read more
