I get severe anxiety in big, crowded places. And that's what this was. It was big, crowded, and…read morefull of tchotchkes I didn't want, need or love. I bought a sandwich and some water and got out of there. I will never return. In fairness to them, the place was surprisingly clean, well organized, seemed well managed. The staff seemed nice enough - just working hard to ring up all the people buying their tchotchkes.

I stopped at Buc-ee's in Madisonville around 8:30 PM. The parking lot was nearly empty, and I…read moreparked my semi truck all the way in the very back of the lot, away from everyone. I walked in planning to spend maybe 20 minutes max just to buy a few souvenirs, snacks, and a few things to take home to my kids and family. Shortly after I walked in, I was approached and told I wasn't allowed to be there because I came in a semi truck. I explained that I was only going to be inside for a few minutes to buy a few items, but I was told they would not allow me to purchase anything. I was also told, "Unfortunately truckers are not welcome." Those were his exact words. That was extremely disappointing to hear. Truck drivers are a huge part of what keeps this country moving. We deliver the products businesses sell every single day, including the products sitting on Buc-ee's shelves. To be told we're not welcome and not even allowed to make a purchase is sad and frustrating. Because of this experience, I will never return to Buc-ee's again, not even in my personal vehicle. I'd much rather spend my money at a truck stop or any business that welcomes everyone and appreciates the people who help keep America moving.

Plus everyone, including the workers, are happy to be there and there's no long lines. Lots of merch and food. I got a foam baseball, a flashlight key chain, a cooler bag, my $1.19 XL Diet Dr. Pepper, and Beaver Nuggets for the neighbors, while the wife nabbed Mini Waffle Cones and Butter Toffee Pecans, which I highly recommend. This being my third time at a Buc-ee's, I was smart enough to go hungry and got a brisket sandwich from the busy busy foodworkers. Once second largest at 60,000 square feet, this particular Buc-ee's, the relief point between Dallas and Austin, ranks 11th in size out of 54. A mix of Outlaw Country with the busy Donki stores of Japan, I affectionately call these a "Delta Dawn Quixote."

And I don't understand the people who don't understand the appeal. It's a destination! Walmart meets Cracker Barrel with barbecue and jerky and a thousand gas pumps. You have to try it. I've now been to more than a dozen across the United States and I still get excited to step inside. Beaver Nuggets. Clean restrooms. Jerky. Fudge. A large brass beaver out front. It's something else and the Buc=ee's in Temple fits the brand well. I had a great time and look forward to the next one! [Review 379 of 2026 - 696 in Texas - 25564 overall]
