I received the gift of Shelley's fashion consulting as a gift from my wife as she knew that I have about 25 sport coats of which I only wore about three. I have similar numbers of suits, slacks, shirts and other clothes that I rarely wore because I didn't feel confident in combining them in a way that I knew would be professional and fashionable. However, I was pretty reluctant to have a stranger come into my closet, it just seemed a bit intrusive. My wife solved my reluctance by scheduling the appointment and then letting me know that I better be there. So Shelley was entering under difficult circumstances, but within half an hour, she won me over. Her easy going style, yet determined process had me enthusiastically getting rid of ill fitting and dated clothes and yet learning to appreciate wearing some clothes that I figured I would never wear. She taught me the ropes on what I could combine and what I should not combine. She made it simple to understand what made certain things work together, while others did not. We took pictures of items that worked and I taped them up on my wall to keep reminding me. I now feel confident enough to make my own combinations, but will likely bring Shelley back for an advanced course. Considering how much money I had spent on clothes I never wore and how I won't need to buy any more for quite a while, Shelley more than paid for herself. However, getting rid of much of the nagging insecurity that I might be mixing the wrong slacks with the wrong jacket and looking foolish, was invaluable. The fact that I now wear more than the same three boring combinations has to be a benefit to my career and make me seem a little younger and hipper. Shelley changed my life! We had two appointments early this year - one to do the color consultation to go through my closet and one to go shopping for the perfect clothes in the perfect colors for me. This experience was so eye-opening! First, I learned that I was wearing the wrong colors; my favorites, black and burgundy, were totally wrong on me. My "new blacks" are dark blue, gray and even greenish colors (I never had worn green before). I also learned how to combine tops and bottoms and, this is important for the final result, how to use accessories like scarfs, belts and jewelry. Along our trips and meetings, Shelley taught me how to organize my closet, how to wash certain pieces, how to alter certain pieces that were not "right" but could be made perfect with the the help of a tailor (six of my wardrobe pieces were altered) and what to wear for specific events. I feel much more professional and sexy and can't wait to try out my new looks for many occasions. I am thankful Shelley is so approachable and easy- going - you spend a lot of time together including half naked in the fitting room, trying on a bra! I want to salute Shelley for granting my wish to visit second hand stores first (Repeter in Los Altos is my favorite!) and it is unbelievable what kind of treasures she found in these consignment stores! Shelley has an incredible understanding of style and how to find the best items for my lifestyle. I had worked with Shelley previously in San Francisco and flew her out to my new home in Atlanta to help me get all the items I would need in a climate that is warmer for a lot of the year and also for a place where people dress up more than I was used to. We went through my wardrobe to select pieces that were still fitting with my style and she made some suggestions on some alterations so I could keep pieces that I already owned. We then embarked on our shopping expeditions to find a new wardrobe that would keep me looking fashion forward and age appropriate. I loved that Shelley knew all the brands in the different stores that we shopped in and we were able to mix and match so that I will have plenty of items for the different activities I am involved in. I hadn't shopped for clothes for years, well, decades. My wardrobe pretty much consisted of Hawaiian shirts and my suits from my corporate days from over 20 years ago. I was silently frustrated when it came time to dress for a social outing because I had so few things to choose from. My wife gave me a session with Shelley for Christmas which got the ball rolling. Shelley came over and went through my closet with me. A big aha was that we learned that the shirts I had were mostly too big for me. After the closet session with Shelley and clearing out the shirts that were too big and the outdated suits, it was evident that a shopping trip was necessary. Now I really didn't have much to wear!!! I highly recommend Shelley! I've been working with her for the past two years and not only did she help me de-clutter my closet (it's so much easier getting ready in the morning) but she helped me become one of the most stylish people in the office! My husband gave me the gift of a session with Shelley for Christmas. I've always loved clothes and have a pretty good sense of what I do and don't like in terms of clothes, but less so with accessorizing. It was so fun going through my closet, weeding out the old and tired pieces and those that just didn't look all that good on me. There were a few things that I considered "second string" that Shelley brought back to make new combinations. I have four bags to go to goodwill and I feel like I have more to wear. So, Like a lot of people in October, I lost everything in the fire. While upsetting, it allowed the opportunity to "start over" and figure out how I wanted to occur in the business world. After many years with a wardrobe that had become quite eclectic having been through many life events - moves, career changes etc., my closet was in dire need of a major overhaul. I hate thrift store shopping, I don't fit into anything and everything is out of date. Much to my surprise there were tons of cool finds! I walked out with three bags of clothes and most of it I NEVER would have picked off the rack! Val is great at putting items together and accessorizing. Val listens and reads your reactions through this process to help guide the way. She also understands how to keep you enthusiastic...shopping is hard work! The very next day I got several compliments on my outfit which was put together by Dara. Dara can help you come up with something to wear for specific events too and can make suggestions on an ongoing basis through some cool technology. Now, I feel like I have many more options in terms of what to wear on a daily basis. She also identified several gaps in my closet and made really helpful suggestions of specific pieces to add. Im queer and a person of color so im very glad to work with meesh because she understood my personal style and how clothes are so much different to navigate being trans or having a less common body type.
