If I could give Janet 10 stars I would. She is simply amazing at her craft. I made an appointment and all I told her was that I wanted it to fit like a glove. I went in there, knowing that the dress would need a major overhaul. I put my trust in Janet, I just knew I was in good hands. With every fitting appointment, she explained what she had already done and what she like to continue to do. The dress was a bit revealing for me, so I asked her to put an insert of similar color and wow did it turn out just perfect. I will not hesitate to recommend. Thanks again Janet for making me feel so beautiful in my dress on my wedding day.

My Nana's dress was from 1955 and Janet made it fit like a glove.

Let's get the record straight: Janet is a literal genius. I married in early August and Janet Frankensteined my late grandmother's wedding dress into a masterpiece. She did a beautiful job and I cannot recommend her services enough.

Excellent work. Timely, professional, perfectionist. I used Janet to fill in the back of my wedding dress. I loved everything else about the dress, except the back was unflattering for me. She was able to hem the dress/cut off the train, and fill in the back in a way that looked great, was very comfortable, and much more flattering. I highly recommend Janet for custom alterations. I joke that if I need to, I will be using her for my second marriage lol! I'm so funny

Janet was incredible to work with on my wedding dress! Her attention to detail and precision resulted in a perfect fit. I couldn't be happier with how my dress turned out. Highly recommend! Thank you Janet!

Janet & her team SAVED my wedding dress! It was mistakenly ordered 4 sizes too small and they made the most intricate and perfect alterations to ensure it turned out perfectly! Cannot rave about them enough!

Custom silk wedding gown- got a little wet after a rainy weekend in Yosemite but still loved every inch of it.

As a designer myself who obsesses over details, I wholeheartedly recommend working with Janet. I just could not find the exact wedding dress I had in my mind- it was simple, modern, romantic, well tailored and out of quality fabric. Janet is great to work with- from fabric selection, to detailing and problem solving to the final product she knows dress making inside and out. She fixed every little stitch until my dress fit perfectly and takes pride in her work. The experience and communication throughout was great, she even altered my dress two weeks before the wedding as a result of some aggressive exercising :)

Janet could not have done a better job altering my dress. It fit perfectly and I felt gorgeous and comfortable. The top of my dress was sheer, and she chose the perfect fabric to line the inside of the top so I didn't have to wear anything underneath. She got everything right, from the length of the skirt to the amount she brought the shoulders up in order to make the V-neck less deep.

Janet did a wonderful job altering my wedding gown, turning it into my dream dress for the big day. I really appreciated her eye for detail, clear passion for what she does, no-nonsense perfectionism, and friendliness (complete with some good-natured sarcasm). Admittedly, Janet was not on my original list of people to call while searching for tailors in the Palo Alto / Menlo Park area, but I'm grateful to my friend for sending me her way after coming across her website by chance. Janet works out of her home in Palo Alto, as well as a studio space in San Carlos, and was flexible with scheduling around my work hours. We ended up having everything altered and ready to go more than two months before the wedding, which opened up my schedule and helped ease the month-of craziness. Janet really took the time to get to know me, and my preferences, and to give me her full attention and energy during our appointments. I never felt like "just another bride" when I visited Janet; in fact, it felt like I was going over to hang out with a friend or fun (and slightly quirky--in the best way possible) aunt. In terms of craftsmanship, Janet excels. She took an already gorgeous dress and made it exquisite and 100% me. My dress was a sample that was several sizes too large, and though I liked the style very much as it was, I had been dreaming of a corset back (instead of the zipper/button closure that the dress had). After some thought, Janet decided she would be able to create the corset back, and I could tell how much fun she had with the process (even though it was tedious at times!). She also helped me choose and attach a built-in bra, as well as the perfect beaded belt to take my dress up another notch. I got so many compliments from friends and family, and my groom couldn't believe how amazing it turned out! Janet's services are not inexpensive by any means, but seemed really reasonable given other quotes I'd received, and the amount of care and skill she employed. The only thing that I would recommend for improvement is to be very open about pricing and changes in pricing, especially as the project changes or evolves. I ended up paying more than Janet's original quote because the corset back and belt addition was more than she had anticipated, but didn't find this out until the end. However, Janet admitted to wishing she'd realized this sooner, and I believe she is conscientious about making this very transparent for future clients. Though I haven't gotten a wedding dress altered before (and can't compare people's experiences going through bridal salons), working with Janet was one of the best decisions I made during the wedding planning process. She really is a hidden gem who puts her clients first and holds her work to the utmost standards. One of my good friends (and a bride to be) accompanied me to an appointment, and liked Janet so much that she hired her to alter her wedding dress, too!

I bought a wedding dress at Nordstrom and spent weeks going back and forth to San Francisco for alterations. Their alterations team did not listen to me or take any care with their work and with only a few days left until my wedding, the dress had been so badly worked that half of the top was off the shoulder while the other half was on the shoulder. I couldn't believe the unprofessionalism of the Nordstrom team (stay away!). I reached out to Janet in a panic and she was a lifesaver. She fit me into her schedule immediately and worked to fix the dress in only two days. By taking the time and care to do the job correctly, she was able to fix the work Nordstrom did and she completely saved my wedding! Regardless of where you buy your dress, when it comes to alterations, I would highly advise you call Janet first!

You would have never guessed the dress I wore started out with just some small lace on the back

If I could give her 6 stars, I absolutely would. Janet is a true artist - she takes incredible pride in her work and does a fantastic job. I came to her with a real major alteration project for my wedding dress. I had fallen in love with a dress, but I needed to have some significant alterations done to make it more modest. That included: adding a back from essentially nothing, adding sleeves, and adding a lining to part of the front. Add to that there was delicate lace all over the bodice - I gave her a stack of matching spare lace to work with. Plus, she did the hem and a bustle as well. Needless to say it was a huge task and of course I had a pretty condensed timeline. Janet did an AMAZING job. I was getting compliments all day on how beautiful the dress was and I couldn't be more pleased. Yes, she is more expensive than other tailors and admits that freely. But her quality is impeccable and I wouldn't have wanted to risk someone else making a mess of such an important piece of clothing.

Janet was the first to respond when I was looking for alterations just 3 weeks before my wedding, and right before the Xmas holiday. I had my dress done in a weeks time, if not a couple days after, regardless it was quick! I had lost a lot of weight and needed the sides taken in and wanted from the lower bust to mid stomach to be rouged up so it wasn't laying so flat on my stomach (my problem area) and made me feel comfortable. When she did this the fronts bottom was going to be shorter, but it created a slight train in the back that I didn't have before, so that was a plus! And I didn't mind seeing my shoes My dress was from David's bridal and she told me when she saw it that she worked with the same one before so that was great too! She also created a little hook to bring in the back part above my zipper so the back of my bra didn't show. I ended up wearing a bolero jacket that covered everything but it was another nice and secure touch to the dress I would definitely recommend her if needing gown alterations! She was really great! I felt amazing on my wedding day knowing no one would be staring a my problem area now that she created a little distraction, we also added my belt and that brought it all together! Thanks again Janet!

Unfortunately for me, I did not get the experience I was hoping for and did not feel like my stylist was able to interpret my vision. This was my 4th time trying on dresses. I previously went to Kleinfeld NYC, Anthropologie Palo Alto, and Kinsley Couture Walnut Creek. I had wonderful experiences at my previous appointments. I decided to come here because one of my friends had recommended them. My budget was $5k so I had a flexible price range. My stylist didn't really explain to me their process at this store so I was a bit confused. I knew it was a one hour time limit and the estimated dresses to try on was 5, but I didn't know it was a hard limit. She ended my appt early at 45 minutes. Had I known I could only try on 5 dresses exactly, it would have been nice if she was transparent about that so I could at least maybe select the dresses I gravitated toward out of her selection. I felt like I was giving feedback after each dress, but kept getting another variation of what I didn't like. The first dress I tried was probably the best out of 5, but from there we kept getting further and further away from what I wanted. There were some dresses I put on and wasn't comfortable to walk out on the podium, but she never asked me if I wanted to show my guests or not. She would just immediately open the curtains and I just felt very exposed and not handled with care. It just didn't feel like a hospitable environment for me or my 3 guests. We were never even offered water. I'm hoping my experience was an outlier and I wish all the brides coming here success in their bridal journey.

I am in LOVE with both my dress and the experience I had at Bo Lee!!…read more I was recommended Bo Lee by a friend who knew of them when they were located in Sunnyvale; they're now located in Campbell. Parking is super easy; for my Sunday 3:00 PM appointment, the street parking spots were empty and the nearby parking garage had tons of space. Entrance is a little bit of a hole-in-the-wall, but they put a sign above their entrance, and directions are easy to follow to their front door (store is located on the second floor). My absolute love of this place includes: - the space is huge!! I had a dual fitting with my friend, but we weren't bumping into each other or in each other's pictures or anything at all. I saw that there was another person doing a fitting, but she was practically on the other side of the building, so we weren't encroaching in each other's space. - the dual fitting was a special request, and Jackie made sure to put us in rooms next to each other, which made the process that much more seamless - kitchen: one of my girls set up camp and poured us our teas, mimosas, and champagne in the Bo Lee kitchen. Also a beautiful space! - natural lighting: big and tall windows plus second floor venue equals viewing yourself in true colors instead of only bulb-lighting. The dresses I tried on were beautiful, but in the natural light, I could see how dynamic they were as well! Subtle sparkles, sheer tulle... it all came out differently in the natural light. - stylist chooses the dresses based on conversations and preference. Jackie, my stylist, knew the entire inventory. I just described what I thought I wanted, and she delivered!! I was relieved that I didn't have to go through dress after dress on the floor and hum and haw about whether I wanted to try it on or not. (Some people might not like this, but I feel like I had a curated try-on collection from an expert who saw the bigger picture.) - I also love how Jackie had me try on a dress I didn't think was the style I wanted, and she dotted her Is and crossed her Ts so I could for sure say with confidence that that particular dress style was a "no" from me. - both Jackie and Bo Lee took my measurements to make sure there wasn't an error, and it's the little things like that that make you feel confident in choosing them as your bridal boutique. I'm happy, I saw and tried on so many styles, and I had such a fun time! I also went under-budget for what I wanted for my dress, which is a win!

The following months, however, were filled with uncertainty and confusion about when my dress would arrive. With an estimated delivery timeline of 4-6 months, I initially tried not to worry. In December, I was informed that my gown was in the final stages of production, and I paid the remaining balance. As March approached, my family and friends began to grow concerned alongside me. While the responses to my calls and emails were reassuring, it became increasingly difficult not to feel anxious as the wedding date drew closer and our energy and attention needed to be focused on other aspects of wedding planning. We were told that the delays originated with the designer. This is understandably not in their control, but more proactive communication and transparency about the situation earlier in the process would have been appreciated. Ultimately, the dress shipped at the end of April and arrived in early May. Despite this experience, I am still giving Janene's Bridal Alameda 4 stars because of the kind and responsive staff. The alterations team did an excellent job with only about 2 weeks to work with, and every staff member was pleasant. I especially appreciated Jessica, Tiffany, and Mary Ann for being so accommodating, patient, and supportive throughout the process. At one point, I left an item there and the team were very communicative about searching for and locating the item until my return. Most importantly, the business went above and beyond to compensate me for the inconvenience and stress of receiving my dress so close to my wedding date. After everything that happened, I was hesitant to have my alterations done at Janene's, but the team ultimately turned the experience around and made it a positive one. Their excellent customer service and dedication helped make up for the stressful situation. Thank you for making things right and for taking such great care of my wedding dress.

It took 3 stylists just to hook the dress together before it could be zipped up. I had not gained any weight since ordering, and the dress felt like it had been ordered a size too small. The stylist who was helping me put on the dress kept reassuring me that the gown had a hard corset, and because it was strapless, it was meant to fit that tightly. Well before my actual wedding, I had my courthouse ceremony... I needed a lot of help to get the dress hooked on, and when it came time to drive to the courthouse, I couldn't even sit up. I had to lean the car seat all the way back in order to make it to the courthouse. The entire afternoon I was so uncomfortable that I didn't even want to drink water. Overall I think Novella is not bad, but their lead alteration person is retired and while I was…read morecoming in, she was retiring. I ended up being charged more than the quoted amount and had to bring my dress back a few times because she missed some basic things. I don't think the person whos doing alterations there is still there so perhaps this review is quickly outdated, but I would say there's definitely not the kind of attention to detail I would have appreciated being at this price point and for this kind of thing where attention to detail for wedding dresses is so important. Every time I've been there, there's been some brides trying on beautiful gowns, so it seems like they have a good selection of dresses if that's what you're in the market for!

I visited Novella bridal on a whim yesterday after having spent the day in the city. I had gone…read morebridal dress shopping twice previously, with two different entourages in two other cities, and I was feeling discouraged about what I wanted, and pleasing others. First of all, PLEASE make an appointment with them. They have a small staff, and are quite busy accommodating brides! I was incredibly lucky to be greeted by Seneca, who after listening to my sob story offered to squeeze me in for an afternoon appointment to try a couple sample dresses I'd seen listed on Stillwhite. She was such a sweetheart, and when I returned for my appointment, had the two dresses I'd requested pulled, as well as a few others of the similar style. Although I didn't have a group with me, Seneca was incredibly patient and supportive while I mulled over the dresses, and hyped me up to fall in love with my original vision. Some of the sample dresses being sold are quite affordable for the budget conscious bride which was a huge plus! Additionally, I've seen fantastic reviews about their in house alterations. Highly recommend whether you're lost in your wedding dress search, or if you want an exceptional experience picking exactly what you want!

A month prior, Jessica responded via email and was able to help fit me into her schedule. The shop had a clean and cozy atmosphere with variety of wedding gowns to choose from. Jessica greeted me and was attentive into helping me find the right dress along with help fitting me into the dress. I tried on at least 4-5 and chose the perfect dress! She also does hair and makeup so it was super convenient to book it all at once, not to mention her service is excellent! Note: Previous Customers/Clients have received a text notification from her stating that she will be "departing from this business" in case those don't receive or receive a slow response. I was searching on Yelp for bridal dress rentals and found JC Bridal Boutique. I made an inquiry on…read moretheir website and scheduled an appointment to try on dresses. This was my first bridal shop. I looked through all of the dresses available and picked out a couple that I liked. There is a lot of variety here- from big poofy dresses to long tighter dresses and everything in between. Each one of the dresses are very beautiful and elegant. I fell in love with the first dress that I tried on, but wanted straps on them (it was a strapless dress). Jessica said that she can alter the dress to sew straps on for me, but suggested that I try on a couple other dresses just in case I liked those more. I did and it made me love the first dress even more! Jessica made me feel comfortable and was very accommodating. She did not rush me and allowed me to take all the time that I needed with every dress that I tried on. I've heard stories from friends that took up to a year to find the one. I am so lucky that I was able to find a rental that I love so quickly. I had to come back prior to picking up before the big day because my mom wanted me to wear something that did not show my tattoos and Jessica was able to still make it work for me in the same dress that I fell in love with! JC Bridal Boutique is definitely a gem!! Thank you Jessica!
