The 16,000-square-foot playground was made possible by a $400,000 fundraising campaign. The playground is named for John "Bodie" Vaccino", a local Milford boy who was born with cerebral palsy. When he was younger, his parents took him to a boundless playground called Hannah's Dream in New Haven. Bodie was able to play with his sister, Emma, as if he had no limitations. His parents then set a project in motion to bring a similar playground to their hometown of Milford. They didn't want a playground just for children with disabilities, but rather a community play mecca for kids of all abilities. The playground was designed by John Hollerbach, owner of Creative Recreation, who has worked on other projects associated with the nonprofit Boundless Playgrounds. An adjoining splash pad opened in July 2018. My family and I recently visited Bodie's Place Playground while we were on our summer break from school. My wife and I are always looking for good playgrounds for our sons, and we heard lots of great things about Bodie's Place. The playground actually features 2 large playscapes: one intended for younger children (ages 2-5) and another intended for older children (ages 5-12). We thought that both playscapes were equally impressive. After our sons played on them for a while, they changed into their swimsuits and headed on over to the equally impressive splashed. Both of our sons had a blast! I must also note that there are plenty of amenities at the park, including bathrooms, pavilions, picnic tables and benches available at the park. We highly recommend Bodie's Place Playground to families with small children and look forward to returning!

It's always so nice to see how clean the park is, as I've noticed fellow dog owners doing a great job of cleaning up after their pets. There's a real sense of community, and I appreciate that they provide dog bags for everyone! I wish I had a picture of them having fun at this lovely park, but I've attached an adorable photo of my two sweethearts instead!

It's fully fenced, and there are various spots of grass, bigger trees for shade, and a few spots of humans to sit. There are also some bowls for water (not sure who fills them). It's summer and it's been hot and dry so a bit dusty at the moment though there are grassy areas. Has benches for humans to sit on. I would bring some water if possible to fill up the bowls for your dog, I do not believe there is a water source on site. Seems like the type of place people stop by to let their dogs run while they are walking their dogs, which I love. Pop in for a little bit and let the dog run, then continue on your walk! My dog has only met lovely fun dogs there so far. Great location- I'll be going here a lot during my time in New Haven.

Union Street Dog Park was one of the selling points for me when I decided to move to New Haven. The…read morepark is in a convenient location and is a pretty decent size that allows for larger dogs to roam around, sniff, and do what large dogs do. Most of it is gravel but there's still some dirt and grass. The dogs are usually chill and that sentiment goes for the owners as well. There's a group vibe as it seems most of the owners know each other. Maybe if Roscoe (my dog) stops trying to hump their dogs, I'll get in the clique too. Doesn't hurt to bring a bottle of water - there's usually a water bowl there. Oh. One side note: Sometimes you'll run into the occasional "urban camper" hanging out in the dog park sans a dog of their own. They're just usually doing urban camping activities like taking a nap, drinking a forty or whatever. They don't seem to bother people or cause trouble though.

The park is almost 300 acres of beach, dunes, salt marsh, and woods. You can beach, swim, fish, walk along the beach or boardwalks, birdwatch... (FYI: alcohol is prohibited, so this is a beach for families, relaxing, and no-alcohol fun.) It's free for in-state registered vehicles. If your car or rental car is not registered in Connecticut, it costs $22 on weekends or holidays and $15 on weekdays (or $112 for a season pass). We couldn't stay long (the downside of a roadtrip with a planned out itinerary), which was too bad, because the beach was very nice! Crowded, perhaps, but what beach isn't on a hot July day?! I could've stayed a while with an umbrella for shade, a book, and a picnic! A lovely public beach.

Great westside run in upscale area of Manhattan…read more Things it has going for it: - Plenty of shade, between big buildings - Plenty of seating for humans (most I have seen at any dog run) - Great fencing, gates and entry area - Dedicated dog water fountain in large dog run - Hose to clean/cool off dogs - Concrete ground cover will keep your dog cleaner than dirt or that crushed stone stuff - Plenty of room for dog to run - Good drainage - Separate large and small dog runs Things it has against it: - No bathrooms near run for humans - Parking an issue if you dont live locally - No poop bags - No water in small dog run - Can get windy One of the best urban dog runs I have found in the NYC area. Even though it has concrete as the ground cover I don't see it getting too hot for your dogs since there is so much shade. Add poop bags and water in the small dog run and this a 5 star run.
