I booked the Cumberland Below the Falls Whitewater Rafting trip expecting a real rafting experience. Instead, the water was so low that our raft constantly got stuck on rocks, making the trip frustrating, unsafe, and nothing like what was advertised. At the very beginning of the trip, our guide Johnny even told us that the American Whitewater Association recommends a minimum of 400 ft water flow for rafting but that day it was only 250 ft. In other words, they knowingly took customers out in conditions that were below safe standards. When I asked for a refund, the company refused. Instead, they offered me a 50% discount on a future trip in an entirely different state in 2026 which is irrelevant and unacceptable. In their own follow-up email, the company admitted that Johnny was frustrated with the low water levels and that the trip was disappointing. This company clearly cares more about taking your money than providing a good customer experience. If you're looking for a real rafting adventure and a company that values its customers, I strongly recommend booking elsewhere. read more

We had the BEST day with Sean and Logan! With 12 people in our group we had a mix of ages and skill level. They made everyone feel comfortable and made sure we had a blast! We were told the river float would last 1.5 to 2 hours, but it ended up being less than an hour. The life jackets smelled awful and were visibly dirty, and the rafts weren't any better. To even get to the river, we had to walk through tall, uncut weeds -- a major issue for someone like me who is highly allergic to poison ivy. The path down to the river was muddy, slippery, and dangerous. Both my mom and I nearly fell trying to make our way down. The entrance itself was located behind a sketchy, run-down mall -- which felt highly inappropriate and gave us a bad impression right from the start. It honestly felt more like we were sneaking into a back alley than going to a paid, advertised river float. While we understand that river water can't be controlled, the overall lack of cleanliness and care -- from the equipment to the customer service -- made the whole experience feel unpleasant and unsafe. When we called to complain, we were told we had already done the float, as if there was anything we could've done to stop it once it began. They clearly didn't care. Overall, this was a poorly managed and unprofessional operation. I would not recommend this float to anyone. read more

Funny, I am another Beth H, here to post a review for Sheltowee Trace. We pulled in for a 4-night stay on a Thursday and enjoyed spacious full hookups in a pull through site. Our friends invited us on this excursion to Cumberland Falls for a weekend of outdoor adventure, and we couldn't have picked a better campground. Great location to the trailheads, close enough to services but far enough away to feel like you are really getting away. We kayaked, hiked, swam, camped, ziplined and relaxed - all in one weekend. Our friends stayed in three cabins on the other side of the park. It wasn't too far away but wasn't close either. Preferred bikes if going between but when the trek was for coffee, on foot was just fine too. They have shower houses, laundry facilities and many different options to make your stay comfortable. I didn't book any excursions, we navigated the area one our own, and we weren't missing out on anything. Great experience. Highly recommend Sheltowee Trace. read more

The entrance to the float is unkempt and weeds, once climbing down the dirt hill (be careful you don't fall) you get into the river. The life jackets are filth and smell terrible.. I have done a lot of river floats it was amazing to me the bad conditions. I notified the business and they would not refund my money. read more

We spent several days here midsummer, in a Couples Cabin. It was fairly new, semi-secluded and well-appointed. It didn't have a fireplace, but there was a grill and a bonfire area right off the front porch. The staff were pleasant and helpful and the "general store" had just about anything you forgot to pack or ran out of. On the downside, like many places, they seemed understaffed. The restaurant had reduced hours and the breakfast we tried was inedible. Cabin cleaning was just OK. The top of the frig was dirty, the glass top stove had never met Cerama Bryte, and broom sweeping revealed lots of little dog hairs. At $169-$189 a night, we expected better. These items are an easy fix. Yes, we'd consider a return visit. read more

This is a scam do NOT book with them. Tried to go on a Cumberland River Boat Cruise. Directions given were in accurate, no address was given to use GPS. Google Link given inaccurate Directions. Called several times and even talked to the manager asking for help none was given. River Boat was Gone When we Finally Found the Boat Ramp. Drove to the Office to request a voucher or refund. Would NOT give either one. People were not helpful at all DO NOT waste your money. We lost $120 to them due to the businesses own fault. They did NOT offer options for people with disabilities, We even asked for a 1/2 of a refund and they would NOT even do that as they said we made lunch for you. How much can a sandwich and chips cost. If they were kind people and did what Jesus would do they would have gladly refunded even 1/2 of the money paid Do NOT support a company that doesn't support people with disabilities nor are they Christian at all. What happened to having manners. If they would refund our money we would delete this entire post. read more

My Friend and I did the Whitewater Rafting, Cumberland Below the Falls on 08/26/2023 and our trip was amazing. Our guide was Amy and she was the bomb as she made us feel comfortable and totally safe at the same time. After the river trip, my friend and I were shopping at the gift shop and a nice man from the trip was helping a women who had car problems when her dog actually bit him really bad. The owner, Dania quickly tended to the man and his injury. The women was very distraught and the whole Sheltowee Trace staff helped this woman and her son get the dog in a kennel (on the property) and food and water for them. The women was very emotional and clearly needed help and Dania graciously helped her out and made sure to reach out to additional resources. Also, because we stayed to help out if necessary, Dania called me that night to give me an update on the mother, her son and the dog. Dania is truly a saint. We will most definitely be back to visit Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort. The only thing I could see improvement was the timing of lunch. We didn't eat until after 2:00pm and they served the riverboat guests before us even though we had just been on the river working for hours. However, having said that, the lunch was amazing. So my wife and I were passing through the area and stopped in here because the local state parks were booked solid and we just needed a site for the night and this place happened to have one left. The people were super friendly and we were so happy they were able to get us in. My wife and I typically do not do RV Parks because one we like more privacy, and two we are not traveling in an RV. And the problem with not being in an RV is that the sites are so small that they rely on the RVs to create the privacy between sites. Well my wife and I were in our Teardrop Camper which means we had no buffer between us and the people next to us. Luckily they were super friendly and even brought us some blueberry cobbler they made in a dutch oven, AMAZING! Bottom line is when I am camping I want to be in the woods, and this place is surrounded by woods but there are very few in the camping area. I will say, they had a great shower facility! read more

This place was just...ok. A group of friends and I planned to come down here for the white water rafting. After booking the reservation, someone from the resort contacted me to notify me that they could not do white water rafting trips without six people. (We had only 4). Cool, no worries. We were planning on going to the Kentucky Derby, and we're set on that weekend, so she offered a "ten hour kayak trip" down the river instead. Now, we're kind of...city slickers, so I asked what the trio included. She informed me we'd be provided with kayaks and a guide. I am certain she mentioned the guide, because we specifically asked. We did not stay on the actual resort campus. We instead decided to stay offsite at a hotel and head there the morning of. We got up early the next morning and headed to the meeting spot. There were two men with our kayaks, who had us sign waivers and then loaded us into a bus and we headed out. When we arrived at the next location, they gave us some basic instruction on how to paddle and use the life jackets. They then stated "have a safe trip!" There was no guide. It ended up being ok, and a scenic route, but it was a bit disconcerting to have four women in a remote canyon, especially when it was not advertised. Additionally, we made the trip in four hours and not the advertised ten, and believe me, we weren't paddling fast and there was barely a current. read more

I loved this secluded location. So much to do between zip lining, horseback riding and water sports. Only 5 miles away from the state park and the waterfalls. Take a hike from the lodge in the park to see them. About 1 1/2 down and up. The only restaurant around is in that lodge. I would come back here again in a heartbeat. read more

We stayed here for Memorial Day Weekend on their Backwoods (primitive) campsites. They were nicely wooded to provide tons of shade from the scorching temps! We had access to clean restrooms and the bathhouse used by the other campers. There's also a little snack hut that we had a breakfast sandwich (fresh) one morning, very reasonably priced. We visited Grove Marina for the weekend and we were only about 10 miles away. No cell service here at all, which was exactly what we were looking for! The sites were far enough from each other that we felt like we had some privacy. They also offer zip lining, canoe trips, white water rafting, and tons more available on this property with transport. I would most definitely stay here again! read more

My family drove down from Cincinnati to Sheltowee Trace Adventures for a rafting trip. Our trip started promptly at the scheduled time after we received our pfts and equipment. The trips starts at Cumberland Falls State Park. Our rafting guide was Cheyenne. She was fantastic throughout the trip. Once in the water you start your trip by paddling as close as you can to the bottoms of Cumberland Falls which is a 60 foot water fall. During the trip there were several areas to stop and go swimming. There was a jump rock which sat about 13 feet above the water and everyone loved the thrill of jumping off. The rapids ranged from level 1 to 3 depending on the level of the river. The whole trip featured beautiful scenery. After the trip you take a double decker pontoon boat ride back to the dock. While riding the pontoon you are served lunch. The lunch was a customized sandwich, chips, and cookies. The boat ride was about 1 hour. Once at the dock you take a short bus trip back the the resort. We had a wonderful trip and plan on returning next year. read more

This outfitter stinks. Don't waste your money. They give little information about the river--we ended up renting a raft, expecting some whitewater, but the entire upper cumberland was flat. The trip took much longer than expected, and the outfitter even implied that there would be features on the stretch of river we were doing. Isuppose that completely flat does technically count as a feature! Needless to say, the paddle was miserable, and will most likely not use their services again. We did eat at the snack bar afterward, and they served smoothies--so at least that was good! read more

I took the rainbow mist raft tour and they really enjoyed it. It is an excellent adventure for families. Our guide, Zach, was exceptional with the young child we had in our raft. He kept the kid engaged and made sure that he had a terrific time. It's a short 45 minute trip but it takes you right up to the Falls for a beautiful view. Zach does all the paddling. I highly recommend it for all ages. read more

Our family took the Rainbow Mist ride up to the falls and we had a wonderful time. Aiden was our guide and he was knowledgeable, safe and extremely fun! He entertained our kids and showed them everything there was to see. We definitely recommend this experience to other families with kids to young to do the rapids. read more

The office staff was very nice as was the bus driver. I'm going to be nice and assume that either this trip is very new or they were undergoing MUCH renovation. We did the Ballast Point trip. Was a nice quiet trip down the river but not much to see. Fast forward to the end. The end ramp is BEYOND terrible. It is not labeled very clearly first of all. And the worst parts are: VERY steep ramp you have to attempt to get up. It is rocky, steep and VERY slippery. Not only do you have to get out of your boat with no ramp or dock whatsoever, but then you have to attempt to drag your kayak up this slippery slope. Let's just say I gave my family lots of laughs at my attempts of exiting the kayak. I may never live that down. I can safely say I won't be taking this trip again. The family came here to raft the Cumberland Falls area. The registration process went smoothly. The owner, "Papa Smurf" aka Rick Egedi, stresses the importance of fully reading the waiver forms no matter the persons' age. He and staff also review what should and should NOT be brought on the rafting trip. (FYI: We saw a family lose their cell phone during one of the swimming times and after they had taken several pics). You see a prep video, given your personal floatation device (PFT), helmet and oar. The group is driven to below the falls and given instructions again (btw, this happens several more times for safety). We were then assigned to a guide, ours was Brentley. He was wonderfully funny, informative, and from the area. All the guides were playful with splashing while also watchful for problems. The rapids were lots of fun, especially the "surfing"! There was several points were we could also swim and float. The weather even provided more water...yep it rained for a short time. It's not like we could get any wetter. At 1:45 PM we met the Papa Smurf pontoon-house boat for lunch. We were transported back (45-60 mins) to were we caught the bus. Then a 20 minute bus ride back to the home base. We had a lot of fun. Went on a rafting trip with an old college buddy. While we had kayaked before, it was our first rafting experience. After calling and explaining this to her the desk woman suggested we try a "duckie" boat, assuring us that her first time had been on one and we would certainly be safe and that the duckie boat was very doable for first timers. My friend and I are physically fit outdoorsy types and were excited but also nervous. Upon arrival at 0830 (the posted time), we registered and sat down, waiting for instruction. Nearly 2 hours later a church camp of 37 children arrived and we realized we had been delayed by them. We drove 2 hours to get to the place (packing up and leaving our campsite at 5 am) and were slightly irritated that no apologies or explanations were offered as we sat outside in the heat waiting on this group. When we arrived to the boats after a short bus ride (where we discovered many new staff were working their first week) and a quick hike down to the shore we saw the beautiful Cumberland falls. We were put into our duckie and despite our stating that we had never been on a raft trip and didn't know how to use the paddle with a double blade paddle we were offered no lesson or tips on how to maneuver the boat. The waterfall paddle (about 10 mins) was easy and absolutely breathtaking. Fast forward to the second rapid and my friend and I were pinned in a recirc for 2 minutes... Unable to be rescued by the guides despite multiple attempts. Once finally rescued, no medical attention was offered beyond a Gatorade and a quick break from paddling. My friend and I had nearly lost consciousness and were turning blue. If it weren't for our guide, some friendly rafters and the gorgeous scenery, I would say to avoid this trip at all costs. However The tour guide Bill is a LIFESAVER and just an awesome dude all around and the river is absolutely beautiful. Trip: wonderful Company: terrible and DANGEROUS read more
