Layout was great , views are amazing , greens were destroyed , no Marshall to keep things moving . Whoever came up with the rain check system deserves money to be taken from his pocket.

The course is semi-links style, with some holes with tree cover. The holes are laid out well, with multiple options from the tee. As with most links courses, there are ample bunkers. The green sizes are generous, with tons of undulation. If you're far from the hole, no easy two putts. And then there is the wind! Wow - what a challenge. Downwind off the tee and then into the wind for your approach! Makes for a challenging day... This is a private club (founded 1969), whose sole purpose is golf - no tennis courts or pool here. If you love golf, find a member and go as a guest! Good range and practice facilities.

Behind the Buffalo Botanical Garden is a golf course. I never knew that, although I have looked at…read moreit often over the years. Just so happened when I stopped by the other day people were actually golfing, hence my newfound info about the golf course. Its part of an Olmstead designed park called South Park. Its one of the 6 "Major" parks in the Olmstead group (others are Delaware, MLK, Riverside, Front, Cazenovia). Three of those have golf courses, which are open and ready for you to come play. So I researched a little and found out that this park actually used to have the Botanical Gardens as part of it. The 155 acre park was designed as an arboretum, and still has hundreds of varieties of trees. They sold the Botanical Gardens to Erie County in the late 1900's, who now manages it. However they remain connected by land of course. In the park there is also a pond, aptly called South Park Pond. Its fairly large for a pond. You can drive around the entire park on Botanical Drive, which will allow you to see the whole thing, including the Botanical Gardens. All in all a nice part of the vast Buffalo Park System, beautifully designed, even if the golf courses are newer additions. Olmstead wanted the parks to be open and accessible to all, so he did not design them with golf courses in mind. Very easy parking along the roadway around the park. All the golfers I saw were zooming around in carts, so presumably there is a golfhut somewhere where they can park the cars and pick up the carts, but I did not notice that as I walked and drove around the park.

The…read morelast several years during Lenten season, my mother and I have made it a point to get a Friday Fish Fry, usually going to a different restaurant. For 2025, she heard Shelridge Country Club served up a good fish fry so we decided to check it out. In short, we were VERY happy with our experience! We heard we had to RSVP, so we called Wednesday and got a table for two on Friday for 6pm. We arrived about five minutes before and easily found a parking spot right by the entrance. Their parking lot is pretty big so we had plenty of spots to pick from. Note that the entrance to the restaurant was up a set of stairs and we didn't see an elevator. We walked in and saw a few tables full of people but noise levels were excellent and the inside was pretty spacious. We walked up to the bar and told the bar tender we made reservations for 6pm. She immediately found our name and guided us over to our table. Our waitress came a short time later and got us started with cocktails as we looked over the menu, albeit we already knew what we were ordering. Our waitress was courteous, friendly, just lovely! After we placed our fish fry orders, we sat and sipped on our cocktails and nibbled on bread, which came with herbed-compound butter and a cinnamon butter - Both were really good. The cocktail I ordered was called "Hair of the Dogleg", which was Bulleit Bourbon, ginger beer, and Angostura bitters with a lemon wedge. This was excellent, refreshing, a perfect drink to sip on. As I've mentioned many times now, both of us ordered their Fish Fry with Fries, beer-battered (of course), from their "Friday Night Entrees" section of their menu. Our plates consisted of a nicely battered, perfectly fried fish over a bed of thicker-cut, crispy fries, with a side of a coleslaw, and a cup of ketchup, a cup of tartar sauce, and a lemon wedge, and our waitress set out a glass bottle of vinegar. This was phenomenal, the fish was fried perfectly! Not greasy and the beer batter distributed perfectly and the fish inside was hot - Easy enough to cut with only a fork. The star of the show for me though was their tartar sauce. I think this was homemade and had what I thought was dill, which was a gamechanger for me! The tartar sauce had a creamy consistency. I've never had tartar sauce like theirs and easily is the best I've ever had. I really liked their coleslaw too - It was on the creamier side, very mild. In my opinion, this was the best coleslaw side I've had! The bed of fries was cooked perfectly, not overly seasoned and plenty crispy. In 2025, the price of Shelridge Country Club's fish fry is $16 and it was worth every penny! A big fish, tons of fries, nicely portioned cup of coleslaw - I walked out of their perfectly full. We really appreciated having the head chef, Caitlin, stop by our table and chat with us about our experience, I felt she really does enjoy being at Shelridge. Both my mom and I had a wonderful dining experience at the restaurant in Shelridge Country Club! The dining area, the staff, the food, all were excellent. I'm willing to say this is one of the best fish fries I've ever had - their tartar sauce and coleslaw really elevated the meal for me. I can't wait to come back again and grab a cocktail and Friday fish fry!

This review is for the golf course...though it's private, I got to play here twice per year during…read morehigh school golf, since it hosts both Roy-Hart and Medina's home matches. The course was always well maintained and beautiful. The greens here are really tough and getting approach shots to hold can be a nightmare, but that's what makes the layout both fun and challenging. I have been thinking about getting a membership there now that I live a little closer to the course to be able to just play one place consistently and they have very reasonable membership prices.
