San-Dee's is not that kind of pretentious upscale restaurant that offers flights of beers and wine. They are not a micro-brewery. What San-Dee's does offer, however, is a classic and modest watering hole with a roadhouse feel to it. It's the kind of place that has bartenders who know how to mix a proper drink, serve an oat soda on the bar and provide bar food and snacks, with a dartboard, pool table and jukebox, horseshoe pits in the backyard and a nice fireplace, and a couple TVs to watch sports on. What they also provide is heart, with some of the nicest owners and neighbors in the area who don't judge you as soon as you walk into the door and sit down. It's the kind of place you want to meet up with friends from the old school, or your hunting buddies or fellow motorcycle riders, your compadres after a long day of work. It's nestled snugly in the woods at the Southern point of Grand Island, off the main drag. It's the kind of place you find if you need to...it's THAT kind of place. "One of the best kept secrets in Western New York."

We waited more than 30 minutes just to get our drink orders. There were four of us, and the food service was just as frustrating. One pizza arrived first, then about an hour later two more meals came out. Twenty minutes after that, the final meal was finally served. We later found out they had given us someone else's pizza, which explained part of the delay. After ordering my High Noon twice and still not receiving it, I finally had to go to the bar and get it myself. We also had to go to the bar for other drinks because they simply weren't being brought to the table. When we asked about the delays, the server's response was simply, "We're extremely busy." While we understand restaurants have busy times, the staff came across as rude rather than apologetic or helpful. Food was served on paper plates with no napkins or silverware, and we had to ask for those as well. The pizzas also weren't as described on the menu. Another concern was the condition of the deck. It appeared to be in disrepair, and we saw two people trip while we were there. That's a safety issue that should be addressed. The only bright spot of the evening was the live music, which was excellent. It's disappointing because this place could be really nice with better management, improved service, and attention to detail. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I can't recommend it.

My…read moreselection tonight was their Hefeweizen, which was excellent and I would highly recommend to Hef fans. I paired that with a tasty pile of sweet potato waffle fries and a side of honey for dipping them in. The fries were a perfect blend of crispy outside and soft inside, just a touch of salt, and the honey is genius (it's an extra $1 and well worth it). Several other beers on the menu look tempting too, and they make their own pizza dough! Another plus: the owners are friendly awesome people. I am very likely to return. The inside seating area is larger than it looks like from the outside, with plenty of seating at the bar and at tables, plus an outdoor patio. Restrooms are clearly marked and easy to access. There are several large TVs showing various sports games - no closed captions though. Music is nice, there was an upbeat jazz background while I was there. It's on the louder side but not too loud to have conversations. If you don't get lucky with a parking spot out front, there is a decent sized free parking lot just down the street and around a corner. This is another win for the beer passport!

The place is huge with ample seating at both the bar and tables. Almost everyone was at the bar and we wanted to taste our beers in peace, so we went for a table. My wife and I each got a flight, so I got to try most of their offerings. My favorites were the Steampunk Cider and the Winter Ale. Both were packed with flavor! The bartender was friendly and checked on us a few times, even though he was swamped by those at the bar. We didn't opt for any food from the kitchen, but were glad to see there's the option to chow down while drinking. An added perk was that finding parking on a weeknight was super easy. We were able to practically park in front of it. I would definitely return. Cool little spot!

It was not busy and we didn't have to wait for a table which is a plus. I ordered smoked turkey, with salad and sweet potato fries and a pg13 which was ginger beer, mint and I added a shot of vodka. When our food came out I had to question what was going on with the sweet potato fries because they had a thick coating and looked beer battered, not at all indicated on the menu. I asked the server, Kelsey W., and she paused and said yea I don't know for sure but if you can't have gluten I wouldn't eat them. I was annoyed at the situation and just took them off my plate but I understand this can happen. The server seemed annoyed and goes on to blame me and says I should have told her. Now will say I did have to go through the salad ingredients and pick most of them out, she didn't ask me about allergies either. And it's not common to add a beer batter coating to sweet potato fries without indicating it in the menu. The menu should be updated asap for other guests. Any other server would apologize for the situation and ask how they can make it better and not blame for a customer for a misunderstanding. After that I realized there was an extra sauce on the tray, I asked her to check with the kitchen to see what was in it, is it safe for me to eat? She came back 15 minutes later and said she will check and have an answer soon. It was not busy, this was not acceptable. Again clearly not showing any help for your guest with a food issue. This showed me she had zero concern or care about this or trying to smooth it over. Finally, towards the end of the meal I realized my water was leaking, had thought it was condensation as it was hot out. My glass, water cup had a huge crack in it. You would have hoped that someone would have seen it before serving it to someone. Clearly a safety issue. I hope I didn't ingest glass. I handed it back to our server and told her this glass needed to be tossed in the trash. Her response was another blank look, she didn't really care and just gave me another shallow I'm sorry. The rest of my meal was tasty and it was a large portion. Everyone else at my table had nice looking food and was happy with it. I will personally not come back here. District 37- it wouldn't hurt to update your menu and add what is gluten safe and indicate what kind of coating is on your sweet potato fries because a lot of people who choose these have special dietary needs. You should also train your staff to help bring up allergy issues with your guests and have more empathy if an issue arises. If this is something a server isn't able to work on they might consider an alternate employment opportunity.
