Sherpa Prep is a test taker's DREAM because of a several things, namely: - Nafeez values developing personal relationships with his students to help them achieve their academic and professional goals; although it may seem soft, his deep sense of empathy went a long way to helping me unlock my potential on the GMAT; - The instruction is effective and detailed; I routinely learned information in far less time through Nafeez; and - Study materials are robust and very well structured; there are a ton of questions with varying degrees of difficulty and there are YouTube videos that helped me unpack problems step by step. I am just about to finish my GMAT prep class with Nafeez and it has far exceeded my expectations. Nafeez really knows his stuff! Trying to conquer the GMAT by yourself is possible, but extremely hard. However, with the help of SHERPA, it is definitely possible; it is basically guaranteed. I took Sherpa's GMAT prep course with Nafeez in fall 2014. I am so happy that I did. The classes were small. Nafeez really knows his stuff and makes the classes super dynamic. Not only did he teach the concepts in a very understandable way, but he also was incredibly helpful in teaching the "strategy" of applying to business school- including tips for everything from networking with alumni to admission essay writing. The classes were very small, Sherpa created its own curriculum which I found much more succinct than anything in the GMAT books, and all in all it really prepared me to feel confident and prepared on test day and walk away with a good score. I cannot rave enough about Sherpa Prep. I literally just got off the phone with Nafeez because I still reach out to him on my GMATs and I ended the course back in June. Four months later and he still makes the time to talk to me. That in itself should show how much Sherpa Prep genuinely cares for each of their students' success. I'm so close to my GMAT goal score that I'm taking it again, but since my first practice exam - which I had to take at the start of Sherpa Prep - I've gone up 130 points. I didn't even try studying for the GMATs on my own before signing up for classes because I knew classes would be more motivating. After researching, I came across Sherpa Prep and not only was it the cheapest price among all the GMAT tutoring services offered in DC but it also had (and still has) only five star reviews. Every review is spot on Sherpa Prep. Sherpa teaches you how to think about problems differently. Each class is also really small on purpose so the instructors can give each and every student personalized attention. I can't recommend Sherpa Prep highly enough. I did a lot of research before choosing a GMAT prep course and I'm confident I couldn't have made a better choice. Nafeez is a great instructor, and he and his team have created a high caliber course that includes their own supplementary material. Sherpa teaches simple strategies that I haven't been able find taught anywhere else, and they work! There's no way this is replicated by any of the name brand prep companies and I've subsequently been able to improve my score by 110 points. Not to mention Nafeez also takes considerable time outside of class to personally work with each student until they are happy with their score, even after the course ends! Sherpa prep really provided a fantastic experience. I just finished taking a prep course for the GRE, beginning in Spring 2015. Jay, our class's teacher and one of the founders of Sherpa, really went above and beyond to help our class succeed. He offered personal attention each class, and was extremely available on email if we had any questions in between classes. Jay has 14 years of experience teaching, and it shows. He brought a lot of patience to the experience, and I felt like he was really a teacher who cared about us understanding the material and succeeding on the test. When our class seemed to lose steam and flounder a bit, he offered free office hours to give us extra support (not something regularly done, don't know if it will be offered again unless your class seems like it's a mess). Class size was very small -- ten people -- and it was an intimate, supportive environment. Classes were split pretty evenly between math and reading prep, with an emphasis on math, as 99% of the class attendees were there to strengthen their math skills. Comparing my experience to my boyfriend's experience taking one of the big business test prep classes, I think mine was far superior. I've also taken SAT prep classes in the past with big business groups, and I think Sherpa offered a more fun and interesting experience. It helps that Jay swears like a sailor (he'd probably tone that down if anyone seemed to be offended). Great value for your money, and a great class overall. Sherpa Prep has my highest recommendation! Nafeez and the GMAT prep class far exceeded my expectations, giving me the confidence, knowledge, and strategies required to attain a score that makes me a highly competitive applicant for any business school in the country. When I decided to pursue a MBA, I was rudely awakened, as most prospective applicants are, by how incredibly challenging and seemingly impossible the GMAT is. There is absolutely no way (in my opinion) to conquer this test without 'training' yourself. Though Sherpa alone will not get you there, their materials and strategies make the entire process so much more manageable. Before taking their class, I bought materials from Princeton Review and Kaplan. The Sherpa way is on an entirely different level. Jay and Nafeez are scientists when it comes to developing their strategies - their methods are much more effective and systematic than anything else I've come across. And when it comes to the GMAT, having a set system and recognizing when to apply a particular method for a particular problem is the only way to crack the test and beat the timer. Nafeez is the best. There's no other word to describe him. He doesn't approach his students as a tutor, but rather as a coach. He provided me with both the mental training and encouragement/confidence I needed during the mind-wrenching process. Apart from being incredibly knowledgeable, he really cares about your success, offering one on one sessions and promptly answering emails (even when I was done with the class). I took the GMAT twice, spaced less than a month apart. The first time I took it, timing and my nerves got the better of me, and I was extremely discouraged. Nafeez assured me that based on my performance in the class and my score report that proved that timing was the largest issue, that I would increase at least 40 points if I took it again. I listened to him, and sure enough, I scored 100 (!!!) points higher on my second try. This time, I went in, making sure I didn't repeat my mistakes, and I only re-reviewed Sherpa advanced materials for preparation. Sherpa Prep is a great value. The GRE course is extremely helpful and well organized. If you come to every class and do the homework, you're pretty much guaranteed to improve. If you follow the full advice of the instructors, there's no way around it. The course is designed to help you learn all of the skills needed for GRE in manageable chunks that build on each other. Taking the Sherpa Prep course with Nafeez was a great decision. Results: I was able to raise my score from 640 to 710. I got into my top choice of MBA program with a substantial scholarship. I do not think I would have been able to accomplish this without Sherpa Prep. Having enrolled in prep courses for just about every past standardized test I've taken, I can say that Sherpa was without a doubt the most effective (and, quite honestly, enjoyable) use of my time and money. The knock on a lot of GMAT courses is that they are designed to get everyone to a decent, but not exceptional, score by packing a ton of complicated material into a short period of time. As a result, you end up retaining the simpler concepts while still getting tripped up by the difficult questions you need to achieve a top score. With Sherpa, it's acknowledged that most in the course have a limited amount of time to master the exam, given they are trying to balance studying with full-time jobs and some semblance of a social life. The course is focused on learning how to approach each question in a way that gives you a very good chance of answering correctly, even if you don't know the exact mathematical formula or grammatical concept that is being tested. You'll still have to re-learn a lot of concepts you've forgotten since high school, but Jay and Nafeez have taken so many of these exams that they can tell you exactly which concepts will be tested, and which ones you can ignore. Although I started with a fairly strong score, I was still able to improve it significantly over the course of a couple of months by following the strategies that are laid out in the Sherpa packets. That score strengthened my application and ultimately helped me gain admission to Darden, my target program. In addition to the materials provided, the structure of the course makes studying for the exam seem like less of a chore. Nafeez becomes your coach 24/7 (literally), and he's always available to answer content questions, review your practice exam results or simply to talk through your career / education goals, even after the course is over. Classes are intentionally small, so he gets to know the whole class personally and understands each student's particular strengths and weaknesses on the test. Because of this, classes are focused on the needs of the class and always lighthearted. I took the class on Saturday mornings, but it never felt like a chore to go to each session. Finally, despite the quality of the Sherpa class, it is half the cost of similar courses in the area, and you can take it again for free for any reason. The low price point had me skeptical that this course would be as strong as others, but a friend who had already taken the course assured me that I would not regret the choice. Sherpa Prep is amazing! I just took their GRE course from Sept-Nov. with Nasheed and it was the perfect refresher course! On top of the fact that it's less than half the cost than other GRE classes out there, the instructors/organizers are super helpful. They pace the course according to how the group is doing and since class sizes are never more than 12, you get personalized attention. They encourage you to send emails/screenshots of problems whenever possible so they can help you figure out the solution and give you tips on how to do better. They also coach you on what to expect during test day so nothing is a surprise. When I took the exam, I felt so prepared! This prep course is a hidden gem. Take it! read more

I took Sherpa Prep for the GRE summer of 2013. I think it's the best GRE prep course in the area, and a bargain. No need to spend a thousand dollars on a test prep course. The best thing about Sherpa is they allow you to retake the course as a review which is helpful if you're a head case about standardized tests. Both Seth and Nasheed are phenomenal teachers, very smart, and helpful. With the amount of material you have to cover for the GRE it's nice to have someone break it down for you. Are you ready to tackle the monster that is GMAT? Do you need a coach to prepare you? Somebody who will be in your corner helping you deconstruct the test? Someone who will encourage you to work not only hard, but also smart? Nafeez from Sherpa gives you the toolkit and teaches you the skills to think strategically about and comfortably approach any question. I sat in on a class to check them out, and learned at least two things on which I was tested on the final exam. After I signed up, I continued to learn several new skills in each class. He combines teaching with answering real, official GMAT questions. I believe that this approach helped me build and test my knowledge at the same time. He encourages keeping an error log to zero in your weaknesses and taking practice GMAT tests often. This helped me easily pace myself through the final test without getting tired. It's an extremely fast paced and intense course, but it's also fun. Nafeez keeps the atmosphere light and enjoyable. In addition to class, I had to study several hours per week to get ready for a test one month after the course ended. He recommends taking the GMAT two to three months after the course ends, but I was repeating the course. Yes - you can repeat the course once and it's included in the price! It's a small class size roughly between 10 and 14 students so we all got plenty of time to ask questions. Nafeez also offers private tutoring for a discount to his current and former students. I took advantage of it several times, and will continue to do so to get his advice on school admissions. Oh yeah, he's a great adviser as well. Sherpa is competitively priced, has excellent content, and questions via e-mail are answered promptly. These are just some examples of what makes Sherpa great. I received a score significantly higher than my target score and it's all thanks to them. Sherpa more than deserves its stellar 5-star rating. I highly recommend Sherpa Prep. I researched a lot of GMAT courses before deciding on Sherpa, and I definitely made the right decision. My class was taught by Nafeez, and he's excellent - really knowledgeable and patient, and always available for questions before or after class or over email. I hadn't taken any math since high school so I really needed a refresher, and I chose Sherpa because they teach not only test taking strategies and tips, but also the actual content you need to do well on the GMAT. It seems like a lot of other places focus on how to "beat" the test instead of teaching you the actual content. The course is a lot of bang for your buck, too. On top of the personalized attention, you get so many packets of study materials. Sherpa was a great choice for me. I took their GMAT Prep Course in the Fall of 2015. I'll list a few reasons why Sherpa is 100% the right choice for a GMAT Prep Course: 1. It's the people that make any business, and Nafeez by far has found his niche in life. He is an incredibly effective instructor, and even more, he honestly cares about his students and their goals. The company is small because their standard is so high for instructors. I had Nafeez as my instructor, but I have confidence that the others were equally as effective. 3. The coursework is rigorous and effective. Anyone planning on taking the GMAT should plan on dedicating 12-15 hours a week for at least 2-3 months (Sherpa's GMAT Prep Course was 10 weeks), and their curriculum was on par with this. Others can argue that it takes more time or even less to prepare for the GMAT, but there are obviously many factors in the equation. 4. You can take the course a second time for free if you need to. If you sign up for other courses (and most likely pay more) and take the GMAT and don't do as well as you thought you would, your money is gone, and you're going to have to cough up another $1000 or so to take a prep course again. I personally liked the security offered by Sherpa with this. 5. There are effective strategies taught in this course you won't find in any book or in any other prep course. The GMAT boils down to the amount of seconds you spend on each question, and this course gives you the tools to approach each question with confidence. I would highly recommend Sherpa's GMAT prep program for anyone who is interested in taking the GMAT and maximizing their score on the test. Not only was the Sherpa GMAT prep program effective for me by the numbers (my score went up almost 100 points from my first practice test, allowing me to hit my goal score!), it was also a great experience that allowed me to learn more about the business school application process and improve skills that will be crucial to success in my MBA program. I initially chose Sherpa for likely the same reason that a lot of people do - the price is about half what you would pay for a more "brand name" (Manhattan or Veritas) prep program. Sherpa also came highly recommended by several friends, but price was a huge factor for me. Once I started with Sherpa I was incredibly impressed with the highly personalized, supportive, and focused approach that Sherpa teachers take. Not only are Sherpa classes and materials awesome (and comprehensive - they thoroughly cover all of the many concepts at play in the GMAT), but Sherpa teachers - I had Nafeez - went absolutely above and beyond to support me in my process of studying for the GMAT. First off, Sherpa allows you to repeat a prep course if you were a former student. I did this - I initially started studying for the GMAT in November 2013 and ended up losing focus, but returned to the course a year later thanks to this policy. This time around, I took advantage of the tutoring discount to do a number of private sessions with Nafeez which really helped me. Nafeez took a personalized approach to supporting my GMAT efforts: we looked at my target schools' score ranges to determine what my goal score should be, he reviewed my practice tests to help me figure out what to focus on, and he even advised me on how to fit time for studying into my schedule. I don't know how he finds time for this, but he offers this sort of personalization to every student in the class! Even after the prep course ended, I worked with Nafeez in 1-on-1 (or 2-on-1 with another student from class) sessions and he continued to respond to my emails and offer advice and support through my first and second attempts at the official test. Sherpa Prep was a life-saver in my GMAT preparation. Going into the process I was very anxious about the test, but Nafeez was calm and reassuring throughout the entire process. The packets contain invaluable, specific information that you can't get from a cookie-cutter big test-prep company, covering the numerous ways that the GMAT test designers will try to trick you. I created flashcards designed specifically from the bold-sections in the packets and in the days leading up to the test, I studied almost exclusively from these flashcards. It all paid off as I broke the 700 barrier on the test last week, improving my score nearly 100 points from my initial diagnostic test at the beginning of the class. I really want to give Sherpa Prep a good review. The classes were well-organized, our teacher was personable and knew her stuff, and the review materials are comprehensive. Since I was only interested in improving my math, that's all that I studied (and studied and studied). Unfortunately, my math scores declined compared to time I took the GRE several years ago, with only a glance-through a Princeton Review book for preparation. In essence, I wasted $700 -- for retaking the GRE, plus the fees for the course -- as well as all of my free time over an already immensely stressful summer. Even now, almost a month after I took my test, I still get choked up with frustration over the waste of time and money. I had an odd experience when I took a make-up class with a different instructor. The quality of the instruction was faster-paced, and the volume of material covered in the class was much greater. The teacher seemed to have a better understanding of what we should concentrate our studying on, and what topics/concepts were okay to study less-intensively. It's nice that Sherpa Prep lets you re-take the course again for free. But if experience is anything to go on it might depress my test score further. read more

I did the class and worked with Nafeez one on one. What I am about to say is in no way an exaggeration by any means. Sherpa Prep is the best possible company to go with in the national capital region. I am the a nuclear engineer in the US Navy and was on a submarine for 3 years. Shortly after I began to study for the GMAT, I realized that I was not a natural standardized test taker. I was really good at engineering exams but the GMAT was a whole other beast. A lot of my colleagues were able to study for a month or two and score in the 700's. I became frustrated at first because I could not emulate their success. I began to question my aptitude and intelligence. And then I met Nafeez. I became humbled and got to work. After 8 months of hard work and countless hours, I finally achieved my goal (720 on the GMAT). Nafeez and Sherpa Prep are a diamond in the rough in the DC area. It is a shame that more people around the country do not have access to the quality of learning that Sherpa Prep Offers. Dylan was the be absolute best. I actually switched over into his class from my other one despite the long commute for me. He was always available through email to answer questions and really cared about answering questions/keeping up with error logs, etc. We had a really large class, but I never felt that Dylan rushed through anything, and always offered detailed answers, stopping and going slower if we didn't understand. He was an awesome teacher and an excellent mentor and helped improve my score (and confidence) dramatically! read more

I would highly recommend Sherpa's GMAT course. I did a lot of research before enrolling in this course and i am confident that I made the rite choice. The course is very well designed over a period of two months. Nafeez is a phenomenal instructor. He puts in a lot of time and effort with his students and tries to understand what issues every individual is facing and then tries to work with you to achieve your goal. One thing that i particularly found very useful were the one on one tuition sessions with Nafeez. I would try meet Nafeez once a week or once in two weeks and try go over my maths and verbal problems. If you are enrolled in the Sherpa course, the one on one tuition sessions only cost $50 ( One hour), which is very reasonable and you can gain a lot out of them. The material that is provided to you at the beginning of the course is really useful and the strategies that are taught in-class by Nafeez are great. Nafeez also gives you a very detailed phase 2 plan for once the class in finished and the way he has designed that is really helpful and keeps you on track. Overall the course is great and I think its better then anything else out there! read more

I could not have taken the GRE without the help of Sherpa. All of the teachers are great, really good at explaining the material. I took advantage of the discounted tutoring as well as the class repeat policy...my score went up hundreds of points from my first practice test. Sherpa's materials and youtube math videos are great...you're not paying to have someone read to you out of a certified testing book.
