My Mom was a long term resident on the 2nd floor. The nurses, CNA's and unit coordinator, Nancy treated her like they would their own Mothers. She enjoyed activities like bingo, outings to Castle Island and the New England Aquarium and Fenway Park. The food was awesome. She could not have received better care anywhere! read more

Don't judge a book by its cover ! What looks like a beautiful welcoming facility is the complete opposite. Inside is the most rudest , disrespectful, evil , condescending people you will ever meet . They don't know how to be compassionate and shouldn't be operating as a business! They are run by agency nurses who don't know the patients they don't respect their staff they think they can talk to people how ever they want to . They are rude and incompetent and will leave your relatives disheveled and a mess if you are not involved . Watch out for this facility they deserve 0 stars !! The uncomfortable truth: nobody wants to stay in a nursing care facility. They'd rather go home. I had an acute infection that required surgery, 6-weeks of I.V. antibiotics and physical therapy. Top notch physical therapists here. No one stared over my head reciting canned lines. They took a genuine interest in my goals and plotted continually towards my success. I felt empowered to test my limits within the confines of safety. The food was good. Visitors were impressed when they came by. I was assigned an incredible doctor who was very knowledgeable with years of practice under her belt. Despite the cultural pitfalls of the general lack of privacy one must endure to survive a nursing facility, the staff really did the work to try to make things go as smoothly as possible. It was clean. No bugs or rodents. I never had anything stolen. I would definitely recommend Sherrill House. read more

I highly recommend Sherrill House. After surgery, I went to Sherrill House based on its excellent excellent reputation for physical and occupational therapy. Therapists there are experts at what they do and are a pleasure to work with. They treat the whole patient, not just the symptoms. They tailored my treatment plan and adjusted it as my conditions improved. More broadly, the culture at Sherrill House is one of collaboration, commitment, capability and caring. The kindness shown by individual CNAs and nurses greatly enhances the experience. The staff goes out of its way to pay attention to patients. For example, food service preparing your favorite meal or the CEO delivering the daily newspaper to your room. In short, Sherrilll House consistently exceeded my expectations and I strongly recommend them. read more

I agree with the person who said that the doctor put her mother on anti-anxiety med that she had never been. I had to fight with her to stop. Ans sadly my mother dies because the facility was awful, and they don't care about patient's medications, and they give them wrong medication. I have a picture of my dear mom's arm that the hit it to the bed rail and it was blood there until I get there and asked them to take care of it. Terrible terrible experience. my late mom and I had a big challenge over there. My mom discharged from the facility on April 4th and passed away because of the fluid in her lung on April 15th. She admitted there only for a broken ankle. Please dont take your loved one there. it is a hell. My mom was scared to call them during the night shift to get cleaned up and end up with a bad rash and wound on her back. Please avoid going there. I would give minus 1 star. read more

My mother was there and the on staff doctor doped her up on anti anxiety meds, where she has never had them before and doesn't need them. They kept her doped up when they were supposed to be rehabbing her. She ended up in the hospital again and is now in a Care One facility and the difference is night and day. I would not recommend this care facility for a loved one. I had a relative there on the third floor that I've visited over the past two years when I arrived late in the morning he was not cleaned. He cannot clean himself. he shared a room with another person who played his TV day and night without any break with the volume up very loud it was never addressed by the staff. My Sister is in there has trouble getting her meds and Tylenol and ibuprofen as pain meds weren't ready when she arrived and call button on well over an hour and no one answers esp when she has to go bathroom after major back surgery!!! Soooo sad people get treated this way especially the elderly I can't speak for the entire place. The Sherrill house is extremely clean and well kept. Has a hotel vibe to it. However, the staff is not that great. Mom broke her shoulder and hip and had to stay a month here. Unfortunately, a lot of the staff seemed like they needed a bed next to my mom. Older ladies who could barely walk themselves. Also very much a language barrier. The help buttons are always ringing as they take their time coming in and when they do come they turn it off and say I will be right back. Which is usually half hour later. They were Not very pleasant either. Not all just most. I kept my mom there due to the exceptional physical therapy team they have there. I cannot say enough about them. They got my mom up walking again. The food was also 5 star and mom who doesn't eat much at home ate all their meals they offered. If your loved one does go there make sure you visit often and make yourself known. read more

Our experience with Sherrill House went from bad to unacceptable in one month. Our loved one never got into the Return to Home program, after a minor fracture in his ankle. He was transferred to long term care. We had to get legal representation and will fight to bring him home within 2 weeks. Shameful. read more

This place is horrible I thought I did the right thing by putting my mother here near us looks nice but the staff as far as taking care of the patients are horrible. There where a couple that where friendly the ones that didn't really deal with patients. My mom literally was left in the bathroom for 30m all she was doing was number 1. Mean while the girl standing around chatting with the rest. Patients ring the bell and they ignore her next door roommate rang bell around 4am because she needed to go to the bathroom the nurse yelled at her why are you ringing at this time like really. They also need more training on how to take care of certain stuff on patients. Now my mom has an infection and kept in the hospital because of there carelessness. Yes I blame them also for this. There not animals Sherril house there human beings. So I don't recommend this shitty rehabilitation center at all. read more

My father's doctor sent him to rehab at Sherrill House because they have a terrific physical therapy program, but that's the only good thing about this place. That and the cleanliness. It's very clean there. I don't mean to offend those in the nursing profession, but I feel like you get the worst of the worst at places like Sherrill House that double as a rehab facility and nursing home. The only time I saw anyone walk into my father's room was either when he paged them or they came into change the name on the 'on call' board. When they did make their presence known, it was more of a bother to help my father than anything else. Before he got transferred from the hospital, his case manager kept telling us to ensure that someone is present with him for at least a few hours a day. She kept saying that--present. And now I can see why--unless one has a family member or friend there to walk out to the circulation desk and ask questions, make a demand, or even ask where the linen closet is (I had to change my father's bed the entire time I was there...isn't that their job?), nothing will get done and the patient is, for lack of a better word, neglected. And what was really infuriating was the fact that, at any given time, there were at least 10 nurses working. I use the word 'working' loosely because most of the time they were milling around the circulation desk chatting or in the common room sitting watching tv. One pro of such a lax environment is that we could pretty much do whatever we wanted--my father always had plenty of bottled water and linens on hand since we could just go into the closets and loot the place! read more

My wife recently stayed there for a week of post-op rehab. We have had too much experience with rehab facilities, so we know what the landscape is like. Sherrill House was EXCELLENT in every way. Great attitude among the staff, nice facility and pretty good food, all things considered. (I also appreciated that it was on the Green Line.) The people are terrific and the PT she received was outstanding. I hope to never have to go, but if I did, this would be the place. read more

Sherrill House had many deficiencies when my relative spent one week there for rehabilitation post surgery. Aids that did not speak English, aids unable to use equipment properly to get weight. Daily weights were required with the diagnosis of congestive heart failure...not one day did they succeed performing a weight check. Computer system for medications caused medication errors. Two entries for the same drug at different doses caused patient to get more than the prescribed dosage for many days. Patient missed 5 out of 14 doses of a medication that she had been on for many years and should have continued there. Pain level checks were a joke. Patient had a severe headache when she was there yet her records reveal notations on all three shifts of mostly 0-3 with only two noted as 7 and 8. records show topical medication used when none was used. Just not a good place to be. We could not get her out of there fast enough. read more

Terrible patient care. My mom was a patient here and was treated with apathy and neglect during her time at Sherrill House. The physical therapy program was quite good, and the living accommodations were nice, but the staff would regularly ignore her, talk down to her. Her prescriptions were often hours late. One time she was in respiratory distress and it took 45 minutes for someone to come. Another time she injured her knee at the facility and couldn't bear weight on it. She needed to get to the bathroom and it took 2 hours for someone to respond. Contacted the CEO of the facility many times and he was quite pleasant, but nothing changed -- in fact quality of care got worse. The only time the care was good was when State was there for an inspection. Overall, VERY disappointing experience and I have dealt with a lot of SNFs before. read more

As a retired US Secret Service Special Agent I investigated several facilities for my dear Mother before I decided on Sherrill House. It is without doubt the finest and most caring short term and long term care facility I ever had the pleasure of dealing with. We have a family member there right now, in her fourth day. We are very unhappy with the lack of oversight and structure with regard to her recovery. It seems as though medication is dispensed only when the nurses are reminded, rather than on schedule. She still hasn't received a schedule for physical therapy, and there is no one looking in to make sure that things are fine unless they are called. This seems to be a problem with low staffing. On the other hand, there are enough staff to create bursts of laughter in the middle of the night in their break room, as though there weren't people sleeping just down the hall. It sounds poorly run... a big disappointment, since we had heard good things and the reviews from just a year or two ago were quite positive. read more

KInd of scary, even for a middle-aged professional woman, to be from out-of-town, in a Boston hospital following emergency surgery, and be asked which rehab did I want to go to.......... Based on satisfactory comments from New England Baptist Hospital patients where I had just had my surgery, 2 choices in the Boston area were suggested to me by the NEBH staff. My criteria were: the BEST & not necessarily local to my home in New Hampshire. I chose Sherrill House based on their non-profit status and a volunteer program they have with Trinity Church, knowing nothing else and having no internet access at the time!!! Since I have been here 1 week, I have been perfectly satisfied.....no IMPRESSED.....with the PT and OT departments, the quality of the food, the adequacy (and attitude!) of all the nursing staff, for meds, IV, bathroom needs, and of course with the facility's overall cleanliness. I visited your facility on Monday 02/24/2020 and after my visit I felt writing about my experience at the Sherrill House. My first impression was what a lovely building you had, My second was your receptionist greeted me with a huge smile and the " Hi,How are you? Welcome to the sherrill house" as i was speaking to her and she was taking my information I saw the Director of first impressions and i must say i love that title and it fit this woman to a T she was welcoming and talked to me like i was an old friend and not just a "visitor" and she pointed me to the kitchen and offered me a cup of fresh coffee. I sat in the lobby for a few moments and i saw her interact with a few other visitors and each one with a smile and as if the were old friends and some she remembered a few of them and they seemed very flattered, she had remembered them. I myself work in many different community centers and long term care units as a yoga instructor all over the city of boston. I felt the need to write this because for as many building i enter for work or for fun,I don't believe i have ever been greeted in such an amazing way. All of the staff was incredible that i interacted with i emailed the CEO as well i couldn't get over how much i didnt feel like i was at a nursing home or rehab it just felt like someone home i will definitely be recommending this facility . read more

The Sherrill House in Jamaica plain is where you want long term care for your loved one! They treat their patients with care, respect and consideration! I can't say enough about them. Marie the weekday nurse, Rachel the weekend nurse, and so many more of the aids and staff really took the best care of my mother. They truly had her best interests at heart! Over the years my mom has been to many a rehab, nursing home, assisted living facility etc but none compare to the care she received at the sherrill house! If you really care about your loved one please STAY AWAY from this rehab facility! The nurses there are the very worst I have ever encountered in my life! Not only do they often times neglect patients but are also rude to family members as well. My loving father was a nice gentle 80 year old man who was a victim of medical negligence by his attending nurse. On February 13th, my father complained of chest pain and we, his family literally begged his attending nurse to get him help and she completely disregarded our call for help. Instead my father was given a sedative which drugged him up and later on that night he went into cardiac arrest. I was told by the nursing supervisor he was found on the floor upside down, heart stopped and unconscious. When the EMT arrived they performed CPR and rushed him into the ER. Unfortunately, it was too late for my father and he was intubated and in a comma. My father passed away the next day. Needless to say I'm extremely angry about the horrible care my father received while being a patient at this facility. Please think twice, three, four and even five times before you put in your loved one in this rehab facility. read more

Transferring a loved one from Sherrill House to another facility has been hell. The staff has been almost mean, something one does not expect in the health care field. I would not send an enemy to this place. We are intelligent, patient, easy to work with people so it is not us. Our family member is not safe at this place and we can not get them out! read more

I am only giving one star because my mother did like maybe two of the staff members in her 2 weeks of being a patient there. I urge everyone reading this review, if you have a loved one, DO NOT send them to the Sherrill House. My mother would go for hours without pain medication, as well as anyone just checking in to see how she was doing. The case worker insisted that this was the place to send my mother, and of course, she obviously gets some kind of kick back for sending patients there. If it was the last rehab on earth, I still would not send anyone I love to the Sherrill House. NEVER!!!!! read more
