I recently visited the store (Evergreen Park, Illinois) in order select paint for a basement. My…read moregoal was to select ceiling paint, wall paint and baseboard paint. I was serviced by Anthony who was very personable, patient and knowledgeable about products and the paint palettes. My situation was very tricky because one portion of the basement has blacked out ceilings and the other has a standard white drywall ceiling. It was important that the correct hue of gray was picked to ensure that the space remained welcoming and not industrial. Anthony educated me on warm hues vs. cool hues as well as which hues gave off green, blue or purple. I've shopped at this location for over 10 years and I've never encountered an associate this knowledgeable about his craft. I look forward to visiting this store for all of my paint projects.

He'll probably be in the back working on inventory, ordering new merchandise, or just taking a nap...I really never know, since after all, he's in the back. But he's sure to help when beckoned, so don't hesitate to ask for him by name. He gets that all the time. This is one of the only businesses I know of that carries other brands of paint along with the Benjamin Moore brand. Most of the others tend to have signed an exclusivity clause with BM, which means you're pretty much stuck with what they're giving you. Myself, I like a choice. So if you want your own guy in the painting industry, go to Calumet, ask for Tony and walk out with exactly what you need to get your project done right. They have a great array of products and stand behind what they sell. Referring to the pictures for this JC Licht store, only the last one that shows the storefront has anything to do with this store. All the other pictures are for marketing, and none of them are found in the store. But that said, this is a good store for paint and painting supplies. I look for great things from this outlet. I had need to get some Old Masters wiping stain and found what I wanted here. The customer service here was over the top. Even though I purchased just a small can of stain, they went to the trouble of spinning it so it was well blended...something that is not always offered at competitors. I will be back.

Well, it's a paint store and I'm a person who has a mild to moderate level aversion to deciding…read morewall paint color. It stresses me out, but not because I'm worried about how ish is going to look, but because I literally cannot think of anything more mind-numbing than staring at swatches that are only vaguely varied. Lemme put it this way, I would rather watch the paint dry, than sit there and f*cking stare at eggshell, manila and off-white samples in different light. This is *my* water torture. But alas... it was time for a change, and I *guess* I'm grateful for the nudge. For better part of the last 2 decades and at 2 different houses, I've been living out of a bright orange bedroom. Sounds fun, right? Well it was... for like, the first 5 years... then the next 13, to be honest, were kind of played out. Plus my hair's also been bright orange for the last five years as well, and I think I was veering that point where things were getting kind of creepy... like Picasso's blue period, only I never did anything of value or praise. Anyway, I've been going to Sherwin-Williams for all my wall color needs because my parents recommended it, and they have an account there with all their saved info and I guess there was some sale thing going on as well. I stared at swatches for longer than I ever want to stare at swatches ever again. The color swatch book I had seemed like it had a ton of colors, but then when I got to the store and they were organized so I didn't have flip things back and forth in a book, it didn't seem so expansive... but I suppose I'm glad because that way I could at least get out of there a bit faster. The sales people vary each day and of the 3 days I had gone in, I don't think I ever saw the same person. Some would check in and offer help right off the bat, some would solely work the counter and answer customer questions at check out and the girl on my last visit would mutter annoyances under her breath as she only begrudgingly acknowledged customers and ordered her co-worker man around with one stern B-face. I felt bad leaving him there with her... but he was too old for DCFS and I had to be somewhere at 5 sooo it was outta my hands. Anyway, everything was just fine. Besides the crabby patty on my last visit, everyone else had been both friendly and helpful and we were able to get in and out right quick. My one regret + quick tip would be that I didn't see the Keurig K-cup Chai latte flavor until just this last visit, and even though it was 9,000 degrees outside, I still felt I needed to have a cup just so I could say I did. Amenities are few and far between these days so I make it a point to take advantage whenever possible.

We came on December 31st, thinking that since it was New Year's Eve, there might be a wait. Surprisingly, there wasn't. That part was fine. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. The store felt disorganized and in a state of disarray, and I noticed several food items with expired dates, which is definitely something shoppers shouldn't have to worry about. What really bothered me, though, was the restroom situation. Both restrooms were marked "out of order." When I asked about it--because two seniors in our group needed to use them--an employee told me they do that so people won't ask for the key. That's unacceptable on many levels and honestly left a bad impression. Overall, it's not a terrible store, but is it worth nearly a 50-minute drive? No, it's not. Maybe I'll stop by again in the summer if I need garden supplies--but for now, this trip wasn't worth the distance.
