I went to Spectrum and they said the product was out of stock and took down my information for a special order. I called nearly 2 weeks later wondering if my paint came in and they had no record of my order. Turns out they had it in stock all along! Grrrr. I went to get it and asked for some kind of discount because they screwed up--a paintbrush, 5% off-- something for my inconvenience. They said it was a new employee and they don't give discounts for mistakes. I've worked retail for many years and this is such a crazy policy. I won't come here again and we'll stick with Sherwin Williams from now on.

Ultra Spec 500 is definitely the best for walls. Regal and Aura are overpriced and tend to drip to due paint viscosity, so I wouldn't use these lines unless you plan on having your home professionally painted. Advance tends to drip as well, so you will need to practice if you plan on using it yourself. Otherwise, I would recommend hiring a professional painter to apply Advance. There seems to be some pricing discrepancies each time I buy in the store. Sometimes they will apply a painter's discount and other times will charge me full price. I have addressed the problem with the store manager on a couple of occasions. My only real complaint is they tend to ignore customers in the store unless they are professional painters. Of course, they make more money on these customers, but they should at least acknowledge a customer when he or she comes in and say how long it will be before they help them. I saw one woman sitting at a table for over 20 minutes without help. Not acceptable. I have gotten to the point that I just write my order down, place it on the counter, and then go to Einstein Bagels to get something to eat. By the time I come back, my order is typically ready.

It is easy to access the paint samples and there is even a nice table/chairs where you can lay out your project. Another good thing to know is that they also carry wallpaper books The staff is kind of hands off, it is true, unless specifically addressed with a question. I think this comes from dealing with a lot of contractors and designers that already know their stuff. I LOVE being left alone with my own thoughts and I am not really into a baby sitting session. A few times I spotted a helpless customer trying to match some piece of fabric to paint and I helped them match it up real quick so they didn't have to wait for help. Another tip is that they sell large painted swatches and small paint testers. I am a fan.

There are small paint cards you can take home, so you can mix and match them however you like. I ended up taking about 20 of them and had a great time figuring out color combos. The store also has lots of other painting supplies and more paint options with color walls to browse. The staff seemed nice even though and we exchanged a few greetings. They let me take my time to look around and browse the colors. If you're thinking of using Sherwin-Williams paint and want to see the colors in person or just need paint stuff, this is a great spot.

He was quick but left paste on all my trim and surfaces telling me it would easily come off when I cleaned it. It took MONTHS. He was not cheap either. I cannot claim that he stole anything from my home (see other review) but it was curious that he "found" the paint for the trim in my laundry room and painted the floor trim behind my washer and dryer. Which we didn't ask him to do. Not sure if he was looking for a tip or just making it seem like he was working longer.. either way, the pricey wallpaper in my powder room looks "ok" but not the professional quality you would expect for the price we paid.

He also will tell you that you did not order enough wallpaper, so he has an excuse to come back and steal items based on his filming. We used him once before we caught him, analyzed our security videos from when he was there in the past, and realized what he was doing. I'm big on customer service so I sent a simple email to the store. I received a very quick and personal response from Bob, the manager. I loved that they took my experience to heart and corrected the "problem" immediately. I was invited back and, of course, I went back as I need more stuff. :) I went on a particularly busy day for them (HUGE paint sale) but everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, was so nice! All of the staff were so busy but they all offered to help me find something, mix something, check out, etc. Drew, another manager, was so incredibly nice and helpful. I've been back several more times and he always remembers my name. It's such a small gesture but one that really makes a regular customer feel great! Now as for the store... they always seem to have items that I need in stock. I've never left there empty handed. The store is nicely laid out and seems pretty clean for a hardware store. I'm a painting fool and I love the new paint department. Great colors and they now carry Valspar paint. So.. if you're looking for a great local hardware store, look no further than this little gem!

Every single visit I get employees who don't have a clue about hardware or where to find things in their store. And they always are desperately trying to sell stuff that's not even close to what I need! (Commission?) Today was my last visit. Four employees and three of them were totally useless. The clerk at the counter was too apathetic to bag my items, so I had to bag everything myself. Got to car and some random stranger starts yelling profanity at me from across the parking lot. Truly, this is THE worst Ace on the planet! Poor selection, terrible customer service, and all around bad vibe.

A few years ago, I purchased over 20 gallons of Ultra Spec paint from this location only to discover that it started peeling in less than 5 years. I shared this information with the store manager and he told me this paint should never be recommended for painting steel pipe. I was then given a contact name and number for a Benjamin Moore representative who could tell me why the coats of paint failed. But again, after numerous phone calls and messages, no one returned my calls. In fact, when I was in the store today another customer overheard my complaint and agreed that this representative was worthless. They've got nearly anything and everything an aspiring young wooden boy would need to get those elbows sweaty and oiled up. The assortment of random rare wood pieces was the most surprising, yet the board selection is formidable. I bought an ice-cream scoop kit that demands you build it a handle; made a handle for it out of some 25 year-aged osage orange I had sitting around. The kit broke in like 5 ways, so... I don't know, still a great place for wood working enthusiasts. Tools galore, they have so much to play with in there; honestly, first time in, and I spent more than an hour walking around and touching things. They also have a great email system set up, so sign up for that. The location is a little Narnia-esq, what with the lefts and the rights and the straights, and don't get me started on the parking. But worth it I'd surmise. Work some wood; it'll do you good.
