I was really impressed with the woman that helped me pick out the right paint colors to match what I had designed. Only one color she picked turned out to be much brighter than I wanted. But I mixed some of the other blues with it and it worked out. They also had paint shipped from other stores to fulfill my order and had it ready in 24-48 hours. I've been working on a cabinet from the 40's for six months... I wanted some tinted clear varnish... just a little reddish brown tint, but still clear. As I mentioned I wanted the grain to show through... they said I should stain the wood, which I know a lot of people do, but that's not how these are made, and I'm doing a period correct resoration... so I looked at the various pigments and picked one... but these weren't pigments for clear varnish... because the pigments basically turned this clear varnish into BROWN PAINT... no grain visible... and now the cabinet I rebuilt faithfully with a veneer press that I built, and sustrate for the veneer I imported from europe... that would have been sold for around $3000 tomorrow... is not going anywhere and I'll have to either take this down to the wood again and start over with substrate and then press the veneer... yea... this was a big drag, and I can't do it again... the cab is ruined... and I was pressed for time I would have done a test... but I trusted that they had a better idea than me... I'm not saying to not patronize them, as they have a lot of stuff and it seemed like they were trying to help... they just didn't.

we purchased one gallon of Emeral style paint on Sunday. provided the sample of a "Greige" for…read moreinside our house. the paint is a little pricey but for what we wanted we decided to spend a bit more. well, after we did a test spot not only did it really not look like the sample (dried way darker), but after contacting the store we were told no refunds or exchanges. store manager incredibly rude and unhelpful. no where on their sales slip does it say non refundable. we contacted the corporate office in regards to the rudeness and lack of customer service. we will not be buying paint there any more. just awful.

He frequents Reineke for other specialty items and I've heard him "complain" about them. I finally made it in myself, and man, he's right. It's like the employees are holier than thou or something odd. Anyway, I keep going back. Don't be afraid to ask for things you don't see out. The 5 galloon wallpaper paste is in the back. Same with some TWP wood stains. They have most things you'd need and most importantly carry Corona brushes and Festool products. Those are hard to find in STL. They were supposed to set up an account for me long ago. Every time I buy something, the account is not set up. I guess the scrap of paper with my name and phone number on it got lost and they cannot manage to make one again (hello 1980s). I once gave my husbands name while looking for the account and they snapped at me that he works for an "actual company". Ok, then find my damn account. All that said, I'm in here all the time. Call in your order to have it ready for pick up.

I have lived in town over 20 years and really enjoy Ace Hardware. Sometimes you need the big box…read morestores but so often you need a few things or real help with a project, that they can not give you. Parking is ample and the lot is well lit. Propane gas is available for refill or tank swap. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Every time I go there I am greeted with a smile on entry and asked if I need assistance. The staff is very knowledgeable and I can always get help with whatever project I am doing. They offer a military discount and a rewards program that are very helpful. Whether you need to get your lawn back in shape or tools for a job Ace is the Place!!! And the staff really is helpful!! My next project is getting the yard ready for Spring so seeds are mulch are on the list for this week.

When you come in, don't be judgmental. The majority of the staff here is female, but they know their stuff. I'm prepping my house for sale and needed some paint to touch up the foundation. I knew I had bought it at this store, so i stopped by to grab a gallon. They found me in the system, but did not have the grey foundation paint on record. The young lady suggested I get a chip off the foundation, since it was peeling anyway and bring it in for the computer to figure out. When I went home, lucky for me I found a almost empty container of the paint we used last time we painted. Sometimes it pays off to be a hoarder/pack rat. Any way, back to the paint store when I was ready to paint with can in tow. The young lady waiting on me, asked some basic questions to make sure I was purchasing the right type of paint for my job and then looked up the "recipe" in the computer and got things mixing up for me. I informed her of the other items my painter wanted and she took me over to that area in the retail shop. She then assisted me and made recommendations on which one to buy. Of course she showed me a higher price point, but when I told her it was going to be used once and tossed, she showed me another one and said it would do the job fine. The paint was a perfect match and my painter ended up using the brush for the entire job instead of the roller. He liked it that much. However, here at the new location in Glen Carbon, that is not the case. There's nothing nearby, but the positive is the layout and space of the store is so much better. Browsing the GB makes you feel like you are shopping, RH or Pottery Barn. Also, I am a big fan of Olive and Cocoa, a mail order catalog. My most recent visit, I found several items from the catalog, in TGB and I'd rather buy local, then from a major catalog. This store is amazing, the staff is always eager to help. If you shop like me and don't need help, they are cool with that, too. I can spend my money, without any help. If you're decorating your home, or if you need a gift for mom, your BFF and the school teacher, I'm telling you to come here and shop. I challenge anyone to come here and try to leave without buying something. You'll always find an item you gotta have.
