Ever since Daly's Paint store closed in Seattle, every contractor I know is upset with the current selection of paint stores. Sherwin Williams won't even match a deck stain! When I complained the guy just walked away! I couldn't believe it! Home Depot and Lowe's are no better. And Benjamin Moore gave me a water based product instead of what I specifically ordered. I'm looking for a good local paint store with people who actually care. Suggestions anyone? read more

Came here expecting a more 'retail sales' experience than at the Benjamin Moore stores, some of which cater mostly to contractors (or seem to). My mistake. Aside from a shinier and more retail-looking store (with free coffee!), the service wasn't as good. Mallory's (Georgetown location) folks were very straightforward about the various paints and what they would and wouldn't do. SW sales people were pushing product, so it was hard to know what I needed, because they insisted that all of SW paint is super amazing stuff that solves all problems, all the time. (Note: it does not.) Paint color matching was not great. Note that their Emerald line of paints only comes in Gloss, Semi Gloss, and Flat. No Eg-shel or other gradations in between. (They may not mention this, but just swap in semi gloss for eg-shel without telling you, which happened to me, so be aware.) I needed 3 coats of this paint to cover pale yellow with white. I thought I'd only need 2 coats, as I'd done another room in Benjamin Moore Aura paint with two coats, white over beige. It's not an apples to apples comparison exactly, but this was not a "high hide" paint for me. I did like their Emerald line alkyd enamel trim paint in semi gloss. Levels really well, super user friendly. Everyone was pleasant and professional, no complaints there. read more

Don't be fooled. That door ON 4th street? The one with the address 320 all prominent right above it? It's always locked because that's not the main entrance. Go around the corner and in through the actual door rather than cursing them for being inexplicably closed. The staff is nice, but an hour to match a color? In the midst of painting this past weekend, I realized I was missing some pertinent supplies that would make the job much easier. Not knowing the area well, I didn't know if there were any hardware stores nearby. I did remember driving by the SW store a few times so I decided to give them a call...and YES!! They were open til 4pm! I hurried my way down there, and was immediately greeted by Matt. In a matter of 5 minutes he helped me pick out all the supplies I needed, and even gave me a 10%..Great customer service!! read more

I love color and I paint a lot of walls. I have been to most of the places that sell paint in San Francisco over the last 20 years, and could maybe write a book. Or at least a Yelp review. Sherwin Williams is fast becoming my go to paint store. The base paint is good quality and medium price, but the staff is so helpful and sincere I can't imagine going to a box store to save a couple bucks a gallon. They have gone out of their way to help me several times with no attitude at all. Rush it? no problem. Get out that discontinued color line? With a smile! I recently bought a dark grey that needed what they call an "ultra deep base" paint, and it covered in two coats! It looks like suede on my walls. Lovely. P.S.The 4th St location is chock full if cute blonds and last time I checked the Geary St. store had a handful of cute brunettes. read more

I called a couple of days before to see if I could get a refill on a Sherwin-Williams paint bucket. The first guy I spoke with says if I have the numbers off the sticker, he can mix it up and have it ready for pick up. I call a couple of days later and the guy is on vacation. The guy who picks up the phone refuses to even listen to the numbers. I ask for a supervisor. He says the same about bringing in the bucket. I told him the other guy said I only needed the numbers. Long story short, they refused to hear the number. I called the Geary store, they took the numbers and had the paint ready for pick up. Don't waste your time, go to the Geary location. read more

You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find a paint store in San Francisco! I knew there had to be one though because while hammering a sconce to the wall in my apartment the hammer was bouncing back at me like I was hammering into rubber because it has probably been painted so much that it is now a few square feet smaller than when it was built. Wow, run-on sentence. Anyway, my roommate and I go to this paint store and were pleasantly greeted by a couple of dudes who didn't take their job too seriously (in a good way). ;) They hooked us up with the "color specialist" (AKA adorable old man that explained the mysteries of color-matching to us). Long story short, the service was great! We ended up being too adventurous and it looked like "My Little Pony puked on our kitchen" according to Jenn, but we were able to go to the other Sherwin-Williams in Inner Richmond to fix our dilemma since the stores have different hours. The gentleman there offered us great tips on how to turn this stalking-color of teal-ish blue (I say stalking because once you paint it that color that stupid color shows up everywhere, port-a-potties, you name it) into a lovely brown color, while the doors are now a great deep purple. Anyway, he mixed it for us and gave us a discount (probably out of pity). I am sure that Jenn and I will be there again soon. read more

Riley was so helpful and made me feel ok to ask a lot of questions. He helped me find all the things I needed without pressuring me for sales and went out of his way to seek consultation when he wasn't sure. The main entrance is on Shipley. If you are lucky, you might find parking in one of their parking spots in front of the main entrance (there are only about 4 spots, so plan accordingly). It took about 20-30 minutes to get a near exact match of my paint, which I needed to cover up some scuffed walls. I was amazed because the Home Depot color match was extremely far off base. My quote for this paint with gloss was about $40-$50/gallon (less for a slightly less similar paint-- don't get the slightly less similar paint because that means more work!!!). One quart, which is the smallest quantity I could purchase, was about $20. That's a lot more than what I'd pay at a big box in the suburbs, but this Sherwin Williams was the most convenient place for me to stop by. If your contractor has a Sherwin Williams account, there will be a discount. I asked what the discount is, but it all depends-- most likely there is a big program like Diamond/Sapphire/Ruby/Platinum/Gold levels or something. read more

My first and recent experience at sherwin-williams Company has been pleasant. I walked in to the store, one gentleman came out from the back to greet me. I informed him that I want some paint for touch-up and showed him the information on the 2 paint colors I want. Immediately he asked me if it's for the Infinity complex. I told him 'yes'. He knew exactly what I needed and started mixing the colors. It took about 10 minutes. I got the 2 paint colors I wanted, easy and simple. The service was great! I love this place. My job in San Francisco requires that I stop in to buy paint every couple of weeks, and I've made pals with all the guys here. They're friendly, helpful, make me laugh, and I have yet to be disappointed with anything. Even though I live in Marin, I'd still come into the city to buy any paint I needed for a personal project. They give great advice, recommend the right products (I'm a a not-very-handy girl), and send me on my way with courtesy, respect, good humor, and smiles. And they all speak English.
