    Kinako Bingsu
    Harrison W.

We went around 8pm for the bingsu. We had to queue for about half an hour to 40 min or so as they only have about 4 tables, although takeaway is an option as well. For two of us, we got a strawberry and a kinako bingsu. The strawberry was our favorite but both were good. The strawberry was on the sweeter side while the kinako had a nuttier and more subtle flavor. Honestly, they were big enough that we couldn't quite finish although we did head over immediately after dinner. Good dessert at a really reasonable price, just beware of the sometimes lengthier queue!

It has been so long since I was in London. I became extremely busy and therefore, have not updated any reviews in so long. My memory may not be great, but I'll try my best. I don't exactly remember how we stumbled upon Shibuya Soho. My then-fiancee, his sister, and I had been walking about the Soho/Chinatown area. And we were getting hungry. One of us was in the mood for curry and this place came up on our search. It was empty when we walked in, so we thought it was closed. It's a small restaurant, quaint, for lack of a better word. We were seated on the upstairs portion of the restaurant, which is a narrow landing that overlooks the first floor. My fiancee got the pork katsu curry and I think his sister and I shared the chicken katsu curry. I remember it being really tasty, not spicy (b/c they can't handle spice). We finished it with a matcha bingsu, which was amazing and totally worth it. London has amazing restaurants all over the place. It's a blend of all different cultures and ethnic foods. None of these places disappoint!

    chicken katsu udon + omurice

Very popular place with super limited seating. The bingsu was sooo delicious and originally I thought it would just be all ice + the toppings, but they actually layer both ice and a sweet syrup together. Katsu udon was alright and my friend got an omurice, which was also decent, but overall, both dishes had too much sauce. Would def go again for the bingsu, but not the warm dishes.

my friend and i met up to eat cakes for brunch then changed plans around 12pm but they didn't open until 12.15 which wasn't much of a wait! but they only have one slice of strawberry shortcake so that sort of put us off and decided to opt for hot food which did not disappoint! we ordered omurice and tempura udon! the portion sizes were actually pretty big so for the price, it was very worth it! it was so tasty! this was my second time trying omurice but first time with demi-glaze! it came with kimchi, miso soup and seaweed salad! there was a good amount of tempura for the udon and seaweed as well! it was quite quiet, a really nice place to visit with friends as they have seating downstairs for larger groups as well! it was very aesthetically pleasing and the atmosphere was great as well! i would love to try their bingsu next time i'm in london though!

The ambiance and interior design of this restaurant is a hidden gem within London's Chinatown. There is plenty of seating and a large selection of items on the menu. I ordered a takeout order for a matcha latte, which was carefully crafted by the skilled barista. The prices are a bit expensive, but it is worth it. I would definitely visit again when I am in the area.

I would say this place is better for desserts so if somehow you feel like eating Japanese food, go to Eat Tokyo or Kyoto instead, it's only the next street along (Romily Street). The portions are pretty small compared to the eye watering price, so you would not be getting value for money here. We ordered the Dragon Roll. When it came, we were confused because it didn't look like a dragon roll, although two different members of staff assured us that it was a dragon roll. Oh well. Chirashi is ok but nothing special. I find their appetisers to be very very strange indeed. It could be like a slice of veg or something equally mysterious but noone had any idea what it was. Black cod looks tiny! They should really up the portions considering the price. The Soho Bings were the most interesting offering here. It's frozen milk shredded with fruits/condensed milk. It will definitely give you brain freeze.

Green Tea Shave Ice with Red bean

Sweet tooth will surely like this place as it offer really good shaved ice/ snowflake dessert. I have tried both green tea (3.5/5) and mango (4/5) flavor shaved ice. (Rating in Brackets). I love that the shaved ice has a milky creamy taste. The ice is very soft and melts immediately as I put it in my mouth. However, the green tea flavor shave ice has more milk taste than green tea as they only put green tea powder on top. The mango flavor shave ice is very refreshing, and I liked that there is fresh mangoes on top. The mango puree complement well with the milk based shaved ice. The employees are mostly korean and they are super polite and friendly. Do expect a long line for Shi Bu Ya, do not go in big group! Big group requires more waiting time. I have been there four times now, and the average wait time is 20 minutes, even on weekday.

I seriously loved this place! It used to be a Chinese cake shop but has recently been turned into a restaurant. I was sad at first as I used to come here for Chinese cakes every week! The reason we went in was because the greeting the 3 staff members gave us was just unbelievable! So friendly and positive, it made us feel good so we went in. Ok so firstly the food: amazing! I had the salmon teriyaki and it was delicious and reasonably priced for China Town. Dessert: we had a shaved snow ice with red bean which is something I've wanted to try for over a year but I've never found anywhere that has a snow ice machine! I really enjoyed it, more for the novelty factor than anything else but it tasted good too. Overall, a great experience, I'll definitely go back again for dinner & dessert

Ok, I have been trying to find a good Korean Bingsu in London for a long time. Finally found it. It is not ice cream but flavoured milk made into snow like texture via a machine which I believe they import from Korea. You can see tons of asians coming in here just to eat the Bingsu. I would recommend the Kinako and the Matcha snow Bing. Haven't really tried the other Japanese food here but will try it next time. Only one I have tried is the takoyaki and it was ok. Would say this is the best currently in London. One mistake they did was asking me to move 3/4 away when I was eating my bing su. Wrong move. Not proper for a restaurant to do that.

Simple yet presented well, the savoury food at Shibuya come in small portions at higher than average prices. Shibuya is probably more well known for its desserts including those with shaved ice than its other culinary offerings. The desserts do indeed look impressive but I did not taste them so cannot comment on whether they live up to the hype and their appearance. In terms of the dinner experience it was decent enough but nothing to rave about. Also worth noting is that the restaurant is small and seating is on wooden benches/stools and cramped so queuing for a spot is commonplace; as may be eavesdropping and knocking of elbows with fellow diners.

Curry rice with fried pork chop
    Rachel T.

Bingsu here is in my opinion the best in London! We tried strawberry and matcha flavors this time, and both taste amazing. Also had a deep fried pork chop curry rice and it's yum! The place is quite busy every night though, you may need to queue for a little while to get a table, but totally worth the wait!

    Chrystel K.

This place is awesome for desserts! The shaved ice is delicious and they know how to make it so well! I crave it every time I pass. The fruit is fresh and they give a generous portion for how much you pay for it. The food is just so so. For the price point I know other places in London that give bigger portions and more tastier Japanese food. During peak times like 7-9pm there is a queue so expect long waits as it's a small place. Also ... they must have the SMALLEST toilet in the whole world. Literally your face touches the door. No joke.

Matcha and azuki bingsu , cold yuzu tea
    Tasha N.

Came here late on a Sunday evening (approx 10pm) and was glad that they were still open. Service was quick and have no complains there. Ordered an iced yuzu tea, which was AMAZING and cost a decent £3.45. The Matcha and Azuki bingsu too was very affordable at £5.95, and was delicious - sweet and creamy but not excessively so! Would definitely come back for their desserts and because of their pocket-friendly prices.

    Kinako bing is so goood!!

In a related and very lovely gesture, the server brought me a complimentary mutton roll (with chilli ketchup) and said they usually send something on the house for solo diners :) The roll was delicious -- savoury mutton without a strong game-y flavour that went really nicely with the mildly spicy ketchup. I decided to have an order of the Lankan chicken kari paired with a hopper. I did not know what a hopper was before then (let alone seen one), so it was an interesting surprise when I was served this unevenly thick, bowl-shaped rice pancake. Fortunately, I did not go wrong with this choice, as the hopper was so delicious. The light rice-based flavour of the hopper paired so nicely with the rich, slightly spicy curry and the tender and savoury chicken, and I really liked the textural variety of the hopper itself (thicker, spongier base and thinner, crispier sides). The ratio of hopper to curry was not quite right, though, so I ended up ordering another roti to enjoy the remaining half of my curry and chicken. The roti was really delicious -- fluffy on the inside and perfectly crispy on the outside -- and similarly paired super well in carrying the curry flavour. All in all, price point was pretty solid for the quality and amount of food. I thought the hopper was pricier than expected, but conversely the curry was less so -- so overall it all seemed quite reasonable. I would love the chance to come visit again and try more of their deliciously fragrant curry options next time.

Duck & Rice, Soho, London, England -- April 5…read more Our family of four with two kids ages 9 and 10 made our way to Duck & Rice after walking through the Chinatown area, which was absolutely packed and fun to explore, and we were looking for something lively with shareable dishes, and the overall experience felt energetic with some real highs and a few misses. Arrival and First Impressions The space has a strong personality with a mix of pub and restaurant energy and it felt busy from the moment we walked in, matching the chaos outside in Soho, but still relatively well controlled with a steady flow of service and a constant buzz that made it feel like a place always in motion. The Highlights Food came out quickly and leaned into that comfort style Chinese menu with a mix of dumplings and larger plates, and the soup dumplings were the clear favorite for the table with both kids fully on board which is always a win. The crispy duck with pancakes was also solid and more in line with what we expected, and overall the variety kept everyone engaged even if the kids stayed mostly in their comfort zone. The Challenges Portion sizes were a bit tricky for a family of four with several dishes coming in sets of three which meant ordering extra just to share evenly, and a few items missed the mark including shu mai that felt a bit dry. The duck and rice being served closer to room temperature was intentional to keep it tender but still felt a little off from expectation, and surprisingly there were no chili oil or similar condiments for the dumplings which would have helped quite a bit. The overall noise and energy level can also be a lot after a full day out. Final Thoughts This is a lively spot that fits right into the Soho and Chinatown energy and works well if you are looking for a fun fast paced meal with shareable dishes, but it is not without a few quirks and inconsistencies. We are glad we tried it and there are definitely things worth ordering, but with so many strong options nearby we would probably explore elsewhere next time, making it worth it for the experience but not a must return.
