    Shields supreme pizza

Visiting Detroit for the weekend with my friends; we looked up "best pizza in Detroit" and Shields came up. As soon as we came in, we were greeted by Joe who was a great host! He even told us about a few places we could go to later in the evening. Our server Jason was very energetic and very friendly. We ordered BBQ chicken pizza, buffalo wings, spicy chicken sandwich, the gold medal pizza, shields super pizza, hot honey wings and salad. It's a nice space with kaoroke in the evenings and a great menu. Great for friends, family, date night or a solo meal. Would definitely return!!

This was a great stop for pizza, but to say it even comes close to comparing to Buddy's is shameful! This was too cheesy with not enough sauce. Also its bad when a waitress doesn't mention that the tip is included in the total. Though at least if you look at the receipt, you will notice that they automatically add 20% even if it's just one person.

Whenever I visit Detroit I have to have Shields pizza . It's always so fresh and perfectly crisp.

Decided to stop here for a quick drink after a trip to the museums. It was really good!

Excellent service from Amelia! I enjoyed a leisurely lunch on the outdoor patio. The small Margherita pizza was delicious. I really enjoyed the fresh garden salad too. Homemade ranch dressing. Located on Woodward Avenue, right across the street from the DIA, in the heart of the museum district. Great location. Fun music playing outside on a speaker, cutting down the noise from the street traffic. Lots of umbrellas and shade.

We wanted to experience some great Detroit-style pizza. And that, we did! The place has a sports bar & grill vibe. Staff are all very friendly. Chill vibe overall. The food was very good. From the antipasto salad we got to start off, to the classic pepperoni pizza, everything was fresh and flavorful. I can see why this place has won awards for their pizza. It's truly one of the best pizzas I've ever had (deep dish or otherwise). Top three in my book. Eat here!

We went here last week for a quick bite before an event at the Detroit Science Center and when we told them we didn't have much time they were more than willing to rush our pizza and it was still delicious! Our server was also so friendly and personable.

Really great pizza and friendly workers! Go eat here if you're visiting Detroit. Also remember to tip your workers!

Service, food and atmosphere checks all boxes here! I was immediately impressed with the stunning beauty of this place, but to be taken care of immediately and eating delicious pizza took it to the next level. But what impressed me the most was the owner. He is so attentive to detail and very involved at the restaurant. That's a lost art in most restaurants these days. Not only did he ask every table how they were doing, but you can see the passion in his eyes and you can see he genuinely loves owning this amazing pizzeria. Detroit style pizza is where it's at. Only at Shields!

Fair to say the Asian Chicken Salad is good, but not great. It's a massive portion with plenty of Napa cabbage and spinach, providing that much-needed crunch. However, the grilled chicken was a bit of a letdown--it really needed more flavor and seasoning to hold its own. The saving grace and clear highlight were the spiced cashews. They actually had some personality and stood out as the best part of the dish. It's a solid enough choice if you're looking to stay on the healthy side while hanging out in a sports bar, but it's not a "must-order. Plenty of screens for sports viewing, and lots of beers on tap (obviously), staff service was good.

She's in poor health, and in the chaos of leaving home I forgot to bring something to wrap her nighttime medication in. Since TAP has turkey sandwiches on their menu, I explained that I was a hotel guest and asked if they could spare a small piece of turkey - just enough to wrap a pill in for an elderly dog upstairs. A kitchen worker (who was very nice, by the way) offered to check, but the chef refused outright. Not "this is against XYZ policy," not "we're too busy," just a flat no. I was standing right there for the entire exchange. Anyone genuinely suited to a hospitality role would have recognized this as an easy moment to generate some goodwill, but instead, the chef shut it down without a second thought. I spent a lot to stay at the MGM Grand Detroit Hotel, and this interaction left a genuinely negative impression of MGM overall. It made an already difficult day worse. I truly hope the individual who refused this request can one day recognize that hospitality is built on moments exactly like this.

We also tried the fried chicken muffaletta sandwich and burger with tots and crinkle fries. The chicken sandwich is really tasty if you like olives, which I do. It came out on a nice seeded bun freshly fried and hot. Yum. Hubby enjoyed the burger and added bacon - they have really nice thick sliced bacon. It was cooked perfectly with a nice soft bun. I'm pretty sure the fries and tots are just frozen and presented well - at $11 and $12 for those, you might just skip those and get the meatball parm sliders because they're seriously delicious. I plan to return just for those - they're the best thing on the menu. Homemade patties and sauce; top notch. But, the crinkle fries do come with this yummy homemade malted mayo as well as ketchup, and I really enjoyed that. The tots are dusted with a spicy salty seasoning which made them maybe a touch too salty. Both of those came out super hot and crispy though, which I definitely appreciate. Overall, a very tasty meal that had care put into it. The host and server were both very friendly and our service was perfect. It's a little pricey for bar food, but at least it's good bar food, and you can't beat the ambiance for sports. Solid.

If you want a bar that gives you fun, food, drinks, and a real local crowd vibe all under one roof,…read morethen Second Best in Detroit is absolutely worth the hype. From the second you walk in, it's obvious this place isn't just another bar -- it's a neighborhood hangout with serious personality. The rustic-brick interior and laid-back energy set the tone perfectly for a night out with friends or a chill stop before hitting other downtown spots. The menu is packed with attention-grabbing comfort bar food that goes way beyond typical pub grub -- think flavorful sandwiches, crispy fries, and dishes that pair insanely well with a cold drink. One of the best parts? Wednesday night trivia. It's the kind of event that turns a midweek night into a destination night. Trivia kicks off in the evening and runs until the fun's done, complete with drink specials (like discounted pitchers and fun cocktails) and a crowd that's all about playing hard and laughing harder. Whether you're a regular trivia team or just looking to make new friends, it's a blast and a perfect reason to mark your calendar every week. The drinks lineup here is solid too -- from craft beers on tap to creative cocktails -- and the bartenders know what they're doing whether you're asking for something classic or bold. Honestly, the name might be "Second Best," but this place is easily first in my book for good times, good eats, and good people. If you haven't been yet, trust me -- go get some.
