Based on all the reviews, we had to check out Grandma Bob's when we were in Detroit. This place has a really chill vibe and the aesthetic is on the industrial side. We were greeted warmly and told to take a seat anywhere we like. The bartender who waited on us was very friendly and helpful. We ordered the spicy pepperoni Detroit style pizza in the cashew Caesar salad. I wish the salad had a bit more dressing as it was quite dry. The pizza was good and we can see why the locals really love it.
My friends and I came to visit Detroit and of course, we had to get some deep dished Detroit-styled pizzas. Grandma Bob's was highly recommended, and we are so glad we came by!! There were 6 of us so we had to put our name down and it was a ~30 min wait, but so worth it. We ordered the Cashew Caesar Salad to start followed by 3 types of medium sized pizzas: Pepperoni, Meat Lovers and Sausage + Pistachio. The food came out so quickly and SO tasty. I love a good Caesar Salad and the cashews added such a nice nutty taste to it - a hefty portion as well where all of us got a solid serving. The pizzas were cut, luckily, in 6 - super hot and the cheese pulls were so satisfying. My favourite was the Sausage and Pistachio - I've never had one like this and as someone who loves pistachio, the combination worked so well. All to say, the other 2 were also delicious. The pizzas were meaty and I appreciate how they also had vegan/vegetarian substitutions if needed. 10/10 service as well, and our server was awesome! Such a fun spot with lots of seating to accommodate all different sized parties with bar seating as well. We'll definitely recommend Grandma Bob's to our friends and we'd love to return when we come back to Detroit!
Dear reader, Grandma Bob's in Detroit was such a good find and very much the sort of place that makes you immediately understand why people keep talking about it. I got the mushroom Detroit-style pizza and absolutely loved it. The crust was beautifully crispy, the toppings tasted fresh, and the whole thing had that rich, satisfying quality that makes you slow down a bit and appreciate what is happening. Quite a triumph, really. I also really appreciated how many vegan options they had, including vegan pizzas and milkshakes, which feels both thoughtful and refreshingly modern without making a fuss about it. It makes the menu feel more fun and more inclusive, which is always a point in a place's favour. The prices were great, everyone working there was extremely nice and friendly, and the restaurant itself was decorated in such a cool way. It had a great vibe, stylish without being try-hard, and felt like somewhere you could happily settle in and stay a while. Overall, a thoroughly delightful stop and one I would gladly return to.

There is street parking and a lot in the back where you pay through your phone. You seat yourself. It is communal tables and about 10-12 seats at the bar. I sat down and the bartender was very attentive. I asked if the pizzas under the Deep Dish section is Detroit Pizza. The medium was described as 12"x10" and cut 6 squares. I got that thinking I'd take the rest home. I got the spicy pepperoni which comes with pepperoni, banana peppers, ricotta, Mike's Hot Honey and oregano. Nice selection of drinks if you do partake in beverages. Pizza was absolutely amazing. The crust, sauce, cheese and toppings came together well. Did I have some to take home? No. That could have been easily shared with 1-2 others too. Solid place. No idea what to compare to, but enjoyable.

The spicy pepperoni deep dish hits just right: lighter sauce, cup-and-char pepperoni, crispy cheese edges, and a soft center. The cashew caesar is crisp, cool, and perfectly dressed, with the cashew base and crispy onions making every bite count. The greek salad balances things out with chickpeas and a mix of textures, never too salty or sharp. The garage vibe, pizza art, and laid-back but timely service tie it all together. I'll cross town for pizza, but honestly, I'd do it for that salad too.
I came here to try the Spread Dough monthly special. The restaurant is very cool inside. Community style table seating with some bar seating as well makes up the interior. Service was quick and the server was very friendly. Onto the pizzas. I ordered two. One was the special chicken caesar pizza. The other was the meat lovers. Both "medium" Detroit styles. I did find it funny they have "medium" and "xl" which are small and large sizes cut into more slices. Oh well. The $30 caesar pizza was very good. As it was for a charitable cause, I was not as offended with the price tag as ai would've been if this was a normal price. That being said, $30 for a small pizza is pretty up there. This was a great pizza though. Chicken was great and the dressing was some of the best I've had. The roe didn't add much at all (allowed them to jack up the price), but I'm glad I tried this. As for the meatlovers, I was not as pleased. The crust could've been a but crispier; especially the edges. The toppings were good; pretty good amount of them too. The mortadella was the star for me. The biggest problem I had was with the sauce. It was too thin for me. It was almost runny. Also some tomato chunks (which I don't care for) made it a bit of a bummer. Perhaps a white pie is in order if I return. Overall; the special was great. The normal menu not so much.
A solid pizza! Tried the pepperoni without the hot honey (not a fan) and added ricotta. The ricotta didn't add much to the pizza flavor wise so didn't really need it. The pepperoni was good. The crust was the right texture and flavor. Also tried a slice of the thin crust pickle pizza- also very good! Tried a couple pieces of the halal pepperoni. It was very comparable to the traditional pepperoni- a great option to have. Would definitely return here. Service was good, restaurant was clean. Prices were good!
We came for a cocktail on opening day, however I will definitely have to come back for the pizza! They all looked amazing coming out. The bartender was great! I wish I could remember her name! She really took the time to create a fantastic cocktail. I also love the decor of this place. Perfect for a spring day with the garage style door to let in the perfect breeze on a perfect day! I can't wait to come back!
I found the pizza to be very underwhelming. We got a pepperoni and the mushroom pie. The pizza was not crispy at all and very heavy. To me, detroit style offers very light, airy and crispy dough with a light amount of toppings. The toppings on the pepperoni were too heavy and not enough crisp to the pizza itself. The mushroom pie was better but still a bit too dense.
Bomb pizza, got the spicy pepp and then bar style (thinner crust) white mush spin gar pizza, then of course the bread sticks. Overall 10/10. The spicy pep had a drizzle of honey, very light, but adds nice contrast on the palate with that salty n hint of sweet hid behind the heat, nice mild acidity in the actual marinara sauce, crust was that burnt cheese, excellent crunch, with out the grease!
Hands down the best pizza I have had in Detroit. I visited Detroit after moving away years ago. I was craving Detroit Style Pizza and automatically thought of Buddy's. I went to the location near Broadway Downtown and walked out. I kept searching for other spots in the area. Thanks goodness Grandma Bob's kept popping up. I thought I knew what I wanted before I even stepped foot in the restaurant. Looking at the menu I wanted to try about four pizzas. I opted for the Mushroom pizza and it didn't disappoint. It was absolutely amazing. The lemon was a nice bright touch. Not overpowering. The cheese. The crust. Baked to perfection. The Greek Salad was delicious also. Service was a 10/10. I LOVED the atmosphere. Nice bar area. They also have a patio but it's too hot to sit out. I am planning my next trip back just to come back and eat here. read more
This was a small place with a bar that served mostly Detroit-style pizza along with boozy shakes. The service was appreciated and the food came out in a timely manner. For a starter, the cashew Caesar salad ($8) was ordered. It came with mixed greens, house-made cashew Caesar dressing, fried shallots, and vegan parmesan. This was very tasty. It was unique with the fried shallot addition. The dressing was just enough. It all appeared very fresh and crisp. The cheese had somewhat of an odd texture, but not a big deal. For a meal, the lobster roll pizza ($45) was ordered. This was so unique that it had to be tried. It came with 6 oz. wild caught lobster, herb crème fraiche, celery and onion brunoise, Cape Cod chips, and chives with drawn butter and lemon. This was very rich, so the addition of the lemon juice and crunchy chips really helped offset that. It was also heavy due to the components incorporated. The lobster appeared fresh and there was plenty of it. The butter was not even needed, but solid for a slight dip. The crème fraiche was solid and different. The crust was crispy and great too. It was a typical Tuesday night and, as usual, I was watching Food Network when I stumbled across an episode of Top 10 ranking the top pizza spots in the country. Coming in at #9 was Grandma Bob's in Detroit, Michigan. Since I already had a trip to Detroit coming up, I decided I had to add it to my list. I skipped the Lobster Pizza and created my own topping combination instead. Listen... I only made it through 3 of the 6 slices of this Detroit-style deep dish goodness. This pizza was amazing. Per the host's recommendation, I tried the sausage pistachio pizza to go - a really nice blend of flavors and textures, with a crispy crust all around! My order was ready quickly and the pizza kept well while traveling. Garage vibes inside, super cool and definitely recommend! read more

All of their pizza is good! We had the Detroit style with pepperoni and one of their round thin crust "bar style" pizzas. Both were amazing. We took a couple slices of each home and reheated them for lunch the next day. Service was great too. read more

This pizza is amazingggggg. Came during dinner on a Sunday night and it was pretty busy but luckily bar was open seating. Great ambiance inside, there's shared tables for table seating, or the bar. Service was great and everyone was super friendly. Started with the Jalapeño cheese bread which was delicious! The five cheese blend pretty good on it. In all honesty, we could've done without the cheese bread since it's quite similar to the pizzas, and we didn't want to fill up before the pizzas. If I could recommend anything, get the spicy pepperoni. This pizza was curated to perfection. Biting into the crust and getting a piece of pepperoni, banana peppers, a little bit of red sauce AND ricotta cheese, finished with the most perfect crunch of the crust, might just be one of the best things I'll eat here. My dad was in town for 2 days, and this pizza was so good (his first time trying), he wanted to come back his second night for dinner just to have it again. Looks can be deceiving because these pizzas are surprisingly light. The dough has a nice fluff to it. I think I'll be dreaming about the crust on this pizza. So so good. Highly recommend!! read more
Multiple internet recommendations sent us here, and they were all correct. Stunning, delicious pizza. If this is Detroit pizza, sign me right up. Delicious sauce, well seasoned and cooked mushrooms (not canned or raw like inferior pizzerias provide), a great blend of cheeses, and that crust -- thick and crispy but somehow also soft at the same time, hearty but not too heavy either. The six-piece medium was a pretty epic feast for me and my kid, could possibly even have fed 3 people. I also got a vegan Caesar salad which was light and pleasant--who knew that there was good vegan parm available? There was a modest 20-min wait for a table but we snagged a pair of seats at the bar with 3 minutes' wait and we were lavished with attention by the bar staff. I've said in other reviews that I dock a star for needlessly loud interiors. No penalty here! Music was at a fun but comfortable volume, and the dining room is smaller than it looks in pictures so it wasn't a huge crowd. Result: a comfortable dining experience! Pizza was pretty good! I had the regular deep dish and the vegan deep dish. The vegan option was a bit too wet for me lol but maybe that's not the norm. Our server was nice and always available, despite the restaurant being packed. I would definitely order from here again... I was also impressed with the prices! Grandma Bob's is an absolute must if you're in Detroit! Detroit style pizza is some of my favorite pizza and this did not disappoint! Grandma bobs has plenty of vegan options making it super inclusive for those with dietary restrictions. We ordered the vegan kale salad which was unexpectedly delicious! For pizza we ordered the Big Mack (which we opted for non vegan) and the mushroom pie! The Big Mack was the star of the show --- highly highly recommend! I'm not a fan of vegan cheese so I was excited to hear that the kitchen could make this pie with non vegan ingredients which was an extra bonus. Overall 10/10! read more

Finally checked "Detroit-style in Detroit" off the bucket list and Grandma Bob's came through big time. The place is buzzing, the vibes are friendly, and the pizza? Delicious! Spicy pepperoni hit with that crispy-cheesy magic that makes you question every other pizza you've ever tasted. JK! Chicago tavern style still has my heart. Now, don't sleep on the cheese sticks! They smack in a way that'll have you side-eyeing it. I'll be back on my next trip to Detroit. Welp! Onto the next! read more
I really like this location there's parking behind the restaurant as well as you're right next to the train station so if you wanna get a beautiful tour and eat some delicious pizza after. I really like the fact that they have ample vegan options the vegan big Mac is my favorite choice. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. i've never sat down and eaten inside because the space is pretty cramped and tight for my folks who are wheelchair users probably not the best choice. They do have outdoor seating though specifically for weather permitting. read more

Excellent service, cute and cozy EXCELLENT food! Salad tastes amazing! And the vegan drinks were out of this world! I was so surprised at how delicious they were. The pizza had plenty of mushrooms unlike other places I've tried. I can't wait to visit again. I hope they are on DoorDash. read more

Heard a lot of good things about this place and always talked about as one of the better Detroit Style pizza places in town. We ordered a classic pepperoni pizza and and jalapeno cheese bread, both were outstanding. I would have liked a little more spice to the sauce but overall very good! Would definitely come back, If you are in the area you will not be disappointed. Can't wait to come back. read more
I would genuinely fly back to Detroit from San Diego for this pizza. Being a vegetarian, it's hard to find places that have meat substitutes while also sticking close to the real thing. Grandma Bob's hits that mark. We ordered a Big Mack and a Pepperoni along with beers, ciders, and cocktails. The food was delicious; so much so that my mouth is watering while typing this. The drinks were clean and fresh. The service was super friendly and accommodating. If I could, I'd give Grandma Bob's more than 5 stars. read more
Grandma Bob's in Corktown has a cool, artsy vibe with a full bar and creative cocktails, plus some decent nonalcoholic options too. It's a fun place to hang out, and the menu is definitely unique. I tried the Pickle Pizza and the Lobster Roll Pizza. The Pickle Pizza stood out in a good way. It was made with sweet pickles, a dill cream sauce, and bits of bacon layered in with the cheese. It was flavorful, unexpected, and well balanced. The Lobster Roll Pizza was made Detroit style and topped with generous pieces of lobster, chips and it comes with a side of melted butter ... The flavor itself was solid, but the crust underneath was a little too soft and almost underbaked. For a $50 pizza, I was expecting a better texture. It might have helped if the dough had been precooked or crisped up before the lobster was added. Overall, Grandma Bob's is a creative and welcoming spot with good service and a lot of personality. Some of the execution on the pizzas could be improved, but the experience and flavors are worth a visit. read more
Took my son to try Detroit style pizza and this place had gluten free options as well as some great reviews. My gluten free pizza was not a Detroit style deep dish pizza. The crust was burnt on the outside but the middle crust was not cooked through. How do o know? Because it was lukewarm under the toppings. The toppings were fine. I didn't say anything until my son asked me a question about his pizza. He ordered a supreme Detroit style pizza and wondered if the middle of his dough is supposed to stick to his teeth like raw dough and it wasn't hot in the middle either. I said no. Mine is the same way. So our pictures look great but when you bite into the pizza, it wasn't. We aren't the type to send stuff back but I'm wondering why all these reviews are so glowing. I ended up just eating the rest of my toppings. Left the crust. my son just dint finish his. Maybe we experienced an off night but he's kind of scared to try any more Detroit style pizza. Great place to grab pizza and a drink! Located in Corktown with a simple but cool layout, especially in the summer time with rolling doors opening. Staff is always so nice and love talking lol. Started with the Yazu Lavender Blitz which was great (both times lol). Then the Cashew Caesar Salad that I love (both times) Deep Dish Lobster Roll Pizza which was good, and the Cheese Bread which was cooked perfectly. read more
I came to Grandma Bob's to try their collab pizza with Midnight Temple, which produced the chicken tikka pizza which was absolutely incredible. I believe the first Tuesday of the month, they usually partner with other restaurants to come up with new pizzas. The interior was actually really nice and spacious, so while I ordered to go, I would definitely love to come back and dine in since the space was cool. read more
My mission to find an excellent Detroit style continues with....Grandma bobs handmade. The concept itself is simple, a creative take on Detroit style served alongside a handful of crafts, wines, and even boozy milkshakes! The menu features classics like the red top but throw in cool variations like the Big Mack or lobster roll pizza and we've got ourselves the makings of something to get excited about! The space itself is awesome. Open, bright, colorful and vibrant. It's a vibe before the food ever even arrives! I go for the sausage and pistachio. I mean when else are you going to get pistachio on a pizza? Throw in Ricotta, sausage, rosemary....sounds amazing in theory. As beautiful as this pizza was, the flavors just don't come through. The sausage would have greatly benefited from fennel, or even crushed red pepper. Out of the lot, I can't really name a single ingredient that stood out. With that being said, the crust was done justice with a nice chew and that signature crispy edges I've come to love from this style. Oh Detroit, how I love you for gifting humanity the wonder that is a Detroit style pizza. I so wanted to love Grandma Bobs pizza. The rest of the country has taken a great idea and elevated it to heights that simply cannot be matched within the state of Michigan, its origin home. The search continues..... read more

Ok, so I enjoyed it. As for experience: yes, there was a wait- it was a Saturday night before the Freep race. Yes, they ran out of Detroit style while visitors of the city were still trying to get their first taste. Luckily, our party made the cut. Energy was jovial, lively. Pizza was good! I ate some there and then the rest when I got back to the room- room-temp and still yum. Two word review: grab seats. read more

Stopped here to try a Detroit style pizza during a work trip to Detroit. I got the sausage + pistachio pizza. I wasn't sure I would like the flavor, but saw it recommended online and decided to give it a try. This place definitely lived up to the hype! The pizza was SO GOOD! I didn't dine in, but I did go inside to pick up my food and the folks working there were immediately attentive and got me in and out. The place also looked cute and casual, the decor reminded me of an artsy brewery. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Detroit. read more
My family went to Grandma Bob's a few months ago, and we still say we need to take a road trip back to Detroit just to eat here again. Everything we ordered was amazing (fresh, flavorful, hot) and the service was super friendly. The vegan Big Mack pizza--Impossible burger, vegan mozzarella, vegan Thousand Island, pickles, lettuce, onion, and sesame seed--completely won me over. I'm usually skeptical about meat replacements, but this was so good even the meat lovers at our table were impressed. We also got two orders of the cashew Caesar salad, which was fresh and flavorful. Food was so tasty. Crust was crunchy, light, and had lots of flavor. The lobster pizza was very unique and came with a side of melted butter.
